The cryptopia mining pool is down. Give us a moment or two to figure out how to respond. Thanks for your patience.

Looks like the Cryptopia pool is undergoing some kind of planned temporary closure o_O

Any other pool we can use?  Or if not, can anyone paste a command that lets one solo-mine with cudaminer?

There are a few mining pools:
https://smly.hashlink.eu
https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/MineShaft?pool=SMLY
https://www.scryptpool.com/pools
https://prohashing.com/
http://hashnova.com/pools/Smileycoin/SMLY

I know the hashlink pool works right now. The others worked also the last time I checked.

Some of you have been asking about mining:

If you've been tracking SMLY lately, you will have noticed that we have a problem with difficulty bouncing up and down by a factor of 4: The profit-only pools jump on SMLY mining when the difficulty goes down, mine it for a few minutes and stop when the difficulty bounces back up.

If you're new to mining: The "difficulty" is a parameter which is increased or decreased in order to produce blocks at a certain rate. It is currently at about 50 for SMLY. This is too high for it to make much sense to mine using a CPU or a GPU, though you will receive some SMLY if you mine in a pool.

To make some SMLY you really need to use a specialised device called a scrypt ASIC (NOT a bitcoin ASIC).

More later...

Apologies - I've been a way.

The transfer went through.  Thanks for help.

No problem. For some reason it took forever to complete a block, in addition to the cryptopia mining issue.

There are now some miners mining again.

I just sent some smiley coin from my windows wallet to cryptopia wallet yesterday and still today no confirmations and now today it says sync is 2 days behind.  Transaction shows as pending on cryptopia.  I have 3 connections.  Is the network working?  This is my first time sending smiley coin.

We're currently in Kenya giving away some servers for schools and tablets for students, to run the tutor-web software which uses the SMLY for rewards. You can track our progress day to day on https://www.facebook.com/education.in.a.suitcase/.

We have a new pool at cryptopia: https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/MineShaft?pool=SMLY

I'm sure you have noticed that most of the SMLY trading now takes place in the SMLY-DOGE and SMLY-LTC markets on c-cex and cryptopia.

The price listed on https://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/ now takes those cryptopia prices into account along with the SMLY-BTC price on c-cex.

Our official crowdfunding is now concluded. We set out to raise at least £4000 and ended up raising over £6000! Thank you, thank you and thank you  Smiley

We can now do the following:

1 Hand-deliver a complete system of tablets plus laptop server with software to serve students at Takawiri island, Kenya.
2 Hand-deliver a laptop server to Banjika Secondary School in Tanzania.
3 Set up one laptop server at Maseno University.
4 Hand-deliver a complete system of tablets plus laptop server to secondary school students in Naivasha Maximum Security Prison in Kenya.

In all cases our group will hand-deliver the hardware with installed software+educational material and we will do our utmost to ensure that the students and instructors can fully utilise the material.

Good job all!  Keep us posted with the delivery and setup please :-)
As promised, a quick status report on education in a suitcase: http://educationinasuitcase.com/status/

SMLY up for delisting on C-Cex :-/  Needs a lot of volume to stay.
Yes, this is unfortunate.

Unfortunately it seems that Cryptopia didn't give this coin much of a boost -- Without a Bitcoin market it seems it gets hidden away.

Well, at cryptopia there is a lot of volume for SMLY. If you just go to the exchange overview, at https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Exchange then you will see that the SMLY-DOGE and SMLY-LTC markets are 2 of the top 3 markets in terms of volume on cryptopia.

But it's c-cex, not cryptopia, which puts volume limits to keep the coins and for some reason it seems harder to maintain a volume on c-cex.

If worst comes to worst then we'll get kicked out of c-cex, leaving cryptopia as our main exchange.

Any future development plans for this coin?  Surely you have a lot of students who are looking for final-year projects :-)
:-)

Yes, lots of plans as always but it's a bit like pulling teeth to get things implemented. We've talked to more companies and as before most are more than willing to look at ideas. A few such projects are ongoing but nothing concrete yet.

This is a financial site which does not have an appropriate security certificate. That looks a lot like scam so please be careful.

We have now reached our first target in the crowdfunding for tutor-web on tablets to Kenya  Smiley

There is a week to go still and we want to get a few more tablets; preferable one more complete system to put into the hands of people who really need it. Remember that we are talking about students who have no textbook, no Internet access, no instructors who have a basic math knowledge -- and these students want to get into university! If in doubt, please take a look at the links on our project page at http://educationinasuitcase.com/

So please help us: Share our crowdfunding page https://chuffed.org/project/education-in-a-suitcase on your social media.

-- and don't forget that you can donate to the project either through the crowdfund page or to the bitcoin account, 1Prdx9EQmgptUh8GVFPvNCufwrCkDvoCU8

We'll give these students high school math material with drills. We'll give them an in-class WiFi system - and we'll give them SMLY for studying
