Great initiative, kawa900jc.

Anyone wants testnet coins? Send me your address.

I have just sent testnetcoins to 'Daiw' - thanks for testing martymcfly2015's new code.

Code:
gsoiltestnet attach
> eth.blockNumber
161157

Anyone else? Here is more information: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.16855673

Hello.

I'm getting this:

Code:
I1115 00:33:24.237930    4344 downloader.go:267] Synchronisation failed: block time is in the future: BlockFutureErr, 1479166467 > 1479166434

Blocks from the future! Cool

My time is synced via time.nist.gov... Any ideas how to receive current/past blocks? Wink
Never mind, my system clock is slow. Guess I need a new CMOS battery. Shocked
It's amazing what problems a slow clock can cause. I had the same problem about 2 months ago. What are we doing to keep this project moving forward?

id like to apologize to all for my absence. ive been trying to keep my family fed, and have been working full time and then some, still not really keeping up with the bills and expenses. ive been prety ill lately too, stress and seizures dont mix well. i truly hope to be able to get back to working n SOIL in the near future and hope that perhaps we can rebuild a new development team here, as right now im completely overwhelmed. i have been keeping up with my reading and reaseach, on renewable energy implications for SOIL, and this hiatus is not a permanent thing. if anyone is interested in joining into a new dev team with me, please message me here or on facebook. i would desperately like to get SOIL back up and running smoothly again, i love this project, i believe in this project, im just so damn broke right now i havent eaten in two days and im trying to figure out what things in my house i have i can pawn to et food for my son for school next week. its THAT desperate. i hope all are well, and ill kep you folks updated.... let me know if you want to be more involved and work for nothing n something that can make a massive difference in the world.

Good work Andreas!
I think the community in on the right track.
Maybe some day Abvihael shows up we keep the business running.
Is there also a Slack channel for SOIL?

That would be great. Thanks for helping.

There are two shorter versions now:

Anyone wants testnet coins? Send me your address.

Testnet for new 'homestead' code

Please participate.

I have created tutorials that
  • enable everyone with a bit of computer talent
  • to admin your own VPS server that is ON 24/7,
  • to compile, run, and use a SOIL-1.4.1 testnet node

Start here:
(1) your virtual private server (VPS) at cheap&powerful scaleway --> VPS-scaleway.md
(2) your SOIL testnet node on that VPS -->  gsoiltestnet.md

Please give feedback. Good tutorials ?

Thanks

P.S.: If you already know how, use martymcfly2015's code, and these nodes:

My 1st mined testnet block was block #1374

with

> web3.fromWei(eth.getBalance(eth.coinbase), "soil")
7112
> eth.blockNumber
2262

and
 7112 / (2262-1374 + 1) = 8 SOIL / block

 ... that looks ... perfect.

So I am mining alone now, and the testnet rewards follow the mainchain rules, with:

Regarding the block rewards
HardFork1 = big.NewInt(263708) // Hard fork block reward 8 to 4 SOIL
HardFork2 = big.NewInt(320000) // Hard fork block time to 60 seconds
HardFork3 = big.NewInt(334000) // Hard fork block time to back to 15 seconds and block reward to 1 SOIL

Let's see when it slows down:

(18:39:58 - 16:59:59) / (2262-1374 + 1) = 6.748 seconds / block

Great!  Well done.

Very good. When you think your code is ready, let us start a testnet run with a few nodes.
Supercheap new VPS provider: https://www.scaleway.com 3 EUR/month for 2 GB RAM!
CPU mining first?  GPU miners would have to be reliably connected for some time, otherwise the testnet chain comes to a halt when they exit.
Ok let's make a testnet. I made a "Testnet" branch.
... When you have started the client you will see acouple of messages: This one is important:
enode://...@[::]:30303
If you like, please post this line to the forum, so we will have some testnet nodes. Please replace [::] with the ip address if the node.  ...

I have included my testnet node:

Code:
admin.addPeer("enode://debbd72816d1c6cfbcfae37e842a6906b122b9a2b196419e39b3087383e3ff4500e462dde66d88cc08aac20c777f6e57ecfa2c541e824b7f528a061e97cf378b@192.52.166.129:30303")

Ok let's make a testnet. I made a "Testnet" branch.

For linux:
Code:
git clone https://github.com/martymcfly2015/go-soil.git
#don't forget!!
git checkout Testnet
make
build/bin/gsoil account new
build/bin/gsoil --rpc --mine console

For windows:
https://github.com/martymcfly2015/go-soil/releases/latest
Please feel free to virus check this file.
The testnet client makes a different home folder (Soiltnet) to not trouble your main-net soil client .
When you have started the client you will see acouple of messages:
This one is important:
enode://8815393e9b662062b63c3bd0f33468ce212ac5f92514deac3a76387595d10e0ecb4f8ff3890cc1f5148e23ec4d0a6959b384d595182cfee7efa200874e608007@[::]:30303
If you like, please post this line to the forum, so we will have some testnet nodes. Please replace [::] with the ip address if the node.
This is my testnode. Copy paste the line to gsoil:
Code:
admin.addPeer("enode://debbd72816d1c6cfbcfae37e842a6906b122b9a2b196419e39b3087383e3ff4500e462dde66d88cc08aac20c777f6e57ecfa2c541e824b7f528a061e97cf378b@192.52.166.129:39340")
Then you should be on the test chain.
To have an ongoing chain and a constant low difficulty please mine but only with your cpu.
Hope this works.
(Sorry Andreas, I accidentally deleted your review on github)
Let me know if you want to have some testnet soil to play with.

basic porting review of martymcfly2015's code

... I hope I can read your code, perhaps next week(end). An interesting opportunity to get to know the sourcecode better. ... Great step forward, well done!

I've gone through parts of the files that you had edited, from commit 9838e32 to commit 0371967.
Not a complete overview, definitely. But I now understand it a bit better.

And I have found some lines you might want to think about, check or correct:

https://github.com/martymcfly2015/go-soil/issues/1

I hope this work of mine helps somehow.

Thank you for your review!
I had a look and nothing concern me. Like you, I have just started to explore the code.

Short and crisp
  • I don't have touched any "test files" for now
  • Renaming the client version is a good idea
  • Proposed changes in main.go are plausible
  • Gas limit might be a typo - I have no idea
  • Port 30303 is the listener (TCP) port and a discovery (UDP) port. I changed it back because the replacement was already in use
  • Regarding the block rewards
    HardFork1              = big.NewInt(263708) // Hard fork block reward 8 to 4 SOIL
    HardFork2              = big.NewInt(320000) // Hard fork block time to 60 seconds
    HardFork3 = big.NewInt(334000) // Hard fork block time to back to 15 seconds and block reward to 1 SOIL
