Too much Thai spice...

If you risk building in chicken coop style you run the risk of fires. Was likely going to happen that is why DC's have fire suppression and climate controls and pdu's that are rated properly with cabling that is redundant safety-wise. Why it couldn't have happened in the BFL burn in rooms instead of this site is definitely proof Karma is a fickle bitch. Cutting corners gets this result in some cases. Sad to see it happen but...

My guess would be laundering money for triangle drug lords ( Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand).
NO. Europeans that relocated to Bangkok and having fun.
Good people.

ofcourse ppl that deal with you must look legit. you think they would invite you to their fort with armed guard?

Please stop the conspiracy theories. Payments were done in BTC.
I know their story. Again, good people. Bad luck.

You guys probably never thought of this but i bet the fire started from the collapse of those shelves.

A quick calculation shows they load 600kg per shelf.  Undecided pure stupidity

Each rack has 1800kg = boom

Gone from 1.3x to 1.5x 1.665TH and climbing now, back temperatures gone from 37 to 67°C 77°C!
Keep your room cozy and warm in the winter ...

I am going to have to do something about the fan though, this thing is loud! Louder than all my other miners combined.

If I can't do anything about it I'll have to sell it I think Sad

This is the fan used in the SP20.. beast of a thing!

Holy sh*t!!  I shed a tear for them.

 Cry
Why?  The insurance payout will be more then they would earn in their lifetime.

If they were all insured. If not, SCREWED.

DC's will be thinking twice before allowing people to host this gear now, at least at unrealistic densities. Imports may receive greater scrutiny.

I'm not thinking twice about it.

I bet the fire started in their electrical infrastructure -- transformer, distribution panel, etc -- not in a power supply or a miner. There's not much flammable material inside a miner. However, they may have installed a transformer near to a wood wall, then overloaded the transformer or wired it up without adequate fuse protection.
The buildup was definitely not according to US electric code

1) buy $1 million in land in Colorado
2) 2.6 mil in grow lights
3) Move wattage to grow lights
4) ROI = guaranteed
5) If it burns down at least you're high
6) Profit

I love bitcoin, but just sayin'...

and get "dedicated hosting" for 5-10 years  .. with the government's help .. yeah

You guys still into hardware? Been a bust for a while now and doesn't seem like it will keep up. And if anything, when the major US holiday comes around coin will drop again and then be stagnate for quite a while. I'd hate to have a bunch of mining hardware trying to pay for electric bill. Voice of pessimism here.

Probably a world record for hashing density.
Extremely low cost and effective deployment method. Behind the SP30s are huge (not huge enough, or too hugh to fan the flames.) fans.

I'm properly stunned.
How could they could invest in that scale of set-up and not install an inert gas fire suppression system?
What a horrible way to learn an important lesson.
Hope nobody was hurt.

It was a cowboy DC though, no reputable DC would rack them at those density levels. They were asking for trouble. Plus the entire thing most probably including the wiring was done all on the cheap to maximise profitability. They just took it too far in the density stakes and overloaded their wiring it looks like.
I wrote it before - source of the fire is yet unknown.
Arson wasn't ruled out. AFAIK, no insurance.
It was in Thai news: http://www.thairath.co.th/content/456629

Sad story, good people. Very bad luck with mining. It's not the first mishap.
I've visited their facility when they had only SP10 and Dragons. I was impressed.

Imports may receive greater scrutiny.

Why would they?

I really hope they had insurance.  Will insurance even cover this is the question.  Look at how they were setup.  Pretty horrible job if you ask me.

It had a lot of praise at the initial setup-did not look horrible at all. You cannot look at the wreck of a BMW and say: gosh, what a s#$@y car!
