no preorder shit anymore! manage your finance needs for yourself. at most take a 10% pre-payment to grant an order. this should become the standard with all miner producers. folks, don't support this preorder shit anymore! no matter if it is KNC, Spondoolies-Tech or something else!

People, this thread is out of control. I'm tempted to split off about 100 pages of it for being offtopic, but the ST team have graciously allowed it so far despite it being a self moderated thread. Can we please stick to the topic as the signal to noise ratio for a spondoolies tech hardware thread is far too low and mostly speculation and scam accusations and name calling and other unrelated nonsense.  Stay on topic please. Splitting the various discussions that go on will be impossible so I'm just going to start deleting offtopic posts.

Less posts means the topic starts to float to the bottom. SP-TECH won't let that happen.

No. Our policy isn't to censor. The amount of posts I've deleted myself is practically zero.
Some people are taking advantage of it. I would prefer, very much, that the thread will remain technical.

Why do I have to wait until October? When in October (received no precise date, even)? Why is S-T planning to hold this refund for so long?

I guess I can safely say that all people which are going to receive a refund, got the same email from SPT .. (I'm part of Roadstress' GB, and got one too). That is, compensation for all the units which qualify for one is going to happen in October. 10-20 days away is not that long now.  If you wanted a coupon, you could get that as soon as they create them based on your option.
This is not a group buy but new purchase for October SP31s which I paid for a week ago (I ordered them before they were out of stock on their website).
Then I received e-mail saying that they ran out of stock for SP31s so they offered me SP35s for November instead.
I refused and requested the refund and got another mail saying that suddenly they have got SP31s in stock (allegedly magic happened and someone cancelled an order for 3 x SP31s) and if I prefer them instead of the refund. I said I won't take them now because I already cancelled the planned hosting for October.

Also, because they haven't (purposely) precised what "refund in October" means I could receive it on 31st October if they feel like it.

They can pay their compensation for my SP30s in October as they mentioned before but they should refund me my current transaction right away. Basically, last week they borrowed about 10k from me until October.
It's a great deal. Free loan with no interest and I didn't even write down the terms of a loan.
I'm probably the best bank which has ever existed.

Basically, lets face the truth. I'm dumb

I'm too tired to get all the details at this hour. but it seems like a mistake. Please emails sales@ again.

Strange, yesterday there wasn't any new firmware for the SP10 and I check today, there is one. Now it may have the latest cgminer making that statement true now.
Thanks- is it worth to update if the old firmware worked ok?

The available updates are being checked on the SPT servers by a PHP call, to the following HTTP locations. They get filtered based on the product you have (SP10, SP30 etc), as well as the firmware you have installed (i.e. you can't downgrade). Try the links in the browser Smiley

const FIRMWARE_AVAILABLE_VERSIONS = "http://firmware.spondoolies-tech.com/release/versions?id=SP1x";
const FIRMWARE_AVAILABLE_VERSIONS = "http://firmware.spondoolies-tech.com/release/versions?id=SP10";
const FIRMWARE_AVAILABLE_VERSIONS = "http://firmware.spondoolies-tech.com/release/versions?id=SP3x";
const FIRMWARE_AVAILABLE_VERSIONS = "http://firmware.spondoolies-tech.com/release/versions?id=SP30";

Of course, every time they update their website, you see the changes. If they don't, you won't Smiley Sometimes it takes a while to get it updated, sometimes it gets updated and you won't see anything  there ... the new ones get announced here : http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/blogs/technical-blog

The whole development focus is now on SP20 and/or minergate with the SP30 on the 2.4.7 firmware .. and my pull request gets ignored  Grin

Because it's a major discussion in the S3 Thread:

Is Spondoolies-Tech using the latest version of cgminer (v4.6.0) in all their products?
We pull latest cgminer from github every time we build.
Spondoolies is the ONLY company remaining that is in sync with the mainline cgminer code and always push upstream any driver changes.
Only on their current/new hardware. My SP10 has an old 4.4.1 version still and that's the latest firmware. So that statement isn't entirely true. It runs just fine, I just thought that comment was a little off.

That is not correct. The latest version for SP10 is 1.5.4 and there is experimental 1.5.6, I think.
Also it is simple to compile cgminer for SP10 and push it to /etc/bin.
I never got request to update cgminer.

edit: our latest cgminer version for sp10 is 4.5.0 in version 1.5.8. You will need to upgrade sw twice to latest because the line was renamed SP1x.

Guy,

I received this reply from Barbara today:

"Dear ..........,

We will refund the payment that you made on Order# 2666 and provide the cash compensation. .......
The refund will be made in October and funds will be wired to your bank account as instructed.

We look forward to your continued business.

Regards,
Barbara"

Why do I have to wait until October? When in October (received no precise date, even)? Why is S-T planning to hold this refund for so long?
It seems to be a deliberate delay without my consent.
Why can't you refund what I paid now first and then remaining  compensation in October?

I have encountered very similiar responses before when dealing with Bitmine (refunded after long struggle) and Hashfast (never refunded).

Now, I'm seriously worried.

Is that because you have already invested my money and now you have no funds for refunds so you wait for new orders to receive funds?

How trust worthy are http://www.michigan-colocation.com/.

I'm planning to give my SP-30's to them. Anyone else hosting with them?

Can I change the pools at anytime? Do they give VPN?

Very trustworthy. And they give you a direct IP address to your miner so you can access it as if it was right in front of you. Also reliable.

Im just going to say this: there are 1,357 Billion chinese people & Discuss fish is now n°1

You are funny!

P.S. Mabsark doesn't need your help. Stop being a heard of blind shareholders.

Also I wouldn't want to piss Bitfury...

I am not helping anyone, just saying you (we) dont know anything about the chinese market.
I cant read chinese, I dont know how many AM resseller there must be or at least I dont pretend that Canary is the only one.

AM did not even bother editing a proper english (international) version of their product/order page on their website. Either that is a complete failure or it is just that they dont need to.
But with Discuss Fish rising (bye bye Bitfury & Ghash.io) and China's economical and technological blooming, I naturally tend to believe the latest.

No, you took info posted by FC and twisted it into something totally different to suit your purpose. FC did not state that Tubes were not selling at all. Tubes hadn't even been announced at that point you raving lunatic.

I thought the Tubes are using the same BE200 chips that FC/AM is selling. I also thought that it's logical that if chips don't sell good considering there are so many distributors, manufacturers and an open source project the miner called Tube which uses the same chips will not sell good.

I'm not the one claiming to have such knowledge, you are. All I know is that Tubes are quite obviously selling since they're on the third batch. Canary must have sold at least 100 though based on the bitcoin address and the price in his group buy thread.

Canary as a distributor sold less units than what I had in my SP30 GB. I wouldn't brag with that number if I were him.

Also being on a third batch means nothing if you don't know how big are the batches. SP-Tech had 1k SP30 units in August and more in September. If Canary sold 100 units then the total number of the Tubes in the wild must be less than 1000. Not that much of a performance.

Im just going to say this: there are 1,357 Billion chinese people & Discuss fish is now n°1

So you now admit that you were trolling and talking rubbish about competitors in their thread while praising Spondoolies?

Praising SP-Tech, maybe, but talking rubbish no. Since you refuse to show some examples I am sure that you, as an AM shareholder, have a different way of digesting the reality and the facts when presented to you and that's why you see it as talking rubbish. Until you will present some evidence of talking rubbish your statements are worthless for me.

I wasn't praising AM. In fact, the information I provided showed that the SP35 would be the most valuable miner if all delivery times where immediate, network hash rate was static, BTC price was static and cost of electricity was static. It also showed that the SP20 would be forth, with the S3+ B9 second and an AM Tube in third place. As it stands, the SP20 is just poor value. That's just how it is and nothing you or I say will change that. Only Spondoolies can fix it.

Then why are you so shy to present yourself as an AM shareholder before giving mining advices? Wouldn't it be fair for everyone to know that you have a biased opinion just like you accuse me of having?

While I wait for tech support to get back online, has anyone had a SP10 just not want to start up?

The symptoms are that it will not stay powered on. It will not even get to the point where is pulls a DHCP address so that we can access it. It will initially power up but then it will turn itself back off.  I have no ethernet or fans. We tried different power cables and power ports on the pdu.

Does it sound like a bad PSU or a MMC corruption?

So just in case anyone else has a similar problem in the future, or if anyone has had it in the past, I'll update.

To summarise, SP10 that had been hashing at SP-Tech for a few months arrived at my colo, with the above symptoms.

Things that have been suggested to try are swapping the PSU with a working one (luckily I have a SP10 I can swap with), and doing the SD-recover following the instructions from here: http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/blogs/technical-blog/13098521-sp10-sp30-recovery-sd-card-boot-sd-card-creation-instructions

Will update more as I get more down the remote troubleshooting on Monday, in the meantime if anyone has had a similar symptoms and has a quick fix suggestion I'm all eyes Smiley

Cheers

First see if the led on PSU is green after restart. If not it is a PSU issue and it should be replaced.
Otherwise please follow the procedures for SD recovery (mmc corruption).
If recovery fails (mmc problem), create boot SD and try to boot from it.
If it fails, contact us regarding fixing the unit.

Thanks zvisha, will try the psu first.

Update, it is the PSU, swapped out one from a working SP10 and it came up straight away.

Waiting for response for replacement request.

Run a Bitcoin node.
Well, I have to admit that I'm currently waiting for the S4 specs and price be revealed. Although there is no valid point in investing in mining now with difficulty going through the roof (network hash rate has already spiked to above 260 PH/s, currently sitting at 250.5 PH/s) and BTC price in the cellar, I'm prepared to purchase my very first mining gear, because winter is coming and my plan is to let the miners assist in heating the house.

SP-T has really something going here, but unfortunately the long delivery times, high price and especially the high shipping costs speak against the purchase of a SP20 or SP35. Considering the total purchase price Bitmaintech offers a better $/GH rate, and although SP-T had a better W/GH rate so far, it may be beaten by a S4 with underclocked/undervolted ASICS.

$/GH and W/GH both have to be right, which is why those Tubes with W/GH way off can not even be considered.

I'm not giving up on SP-T, but something has to happen, because it's just not working that way. We need some innovation to bring W/GH below 0.5 and price + delivery times down, which may be impossible right now, but I have hopes for 2015.

Let's assume a static network hash rate of 300 Ph/s, power costs of 0.1 USD/kWh and an exchange price of 500 USD/BTC.

SP20 costs 2.64 USD/day,
SP35 costs 8.4 USD/day,
S3+ B9 costs 0.86 USD/day, and
AM Tube costs 2.16 USD/day.

SP20 at 1700 Gh/s would mine 0.0204 BTC/day or 10.2 USD/day,
SP35 at 6000 Gh/s would mine 0.072 BTC/day or 36 USD/day,
S3+ B9 at 453 Gh/s would mine 0.005436 BTC/day or 2.72 USD/day, and
AM Tube at 800 Gh/s would mine 0.0096 BTC/day or 4.8 USD/day.

SP20 would make 7.56 USD/day profit,
SP35 would make 27.6 USD/day profit,
S3+ B9 would make 1.858 USD/day profit, and
AM Tube would make 2.64 USD/day profit.

SP20 costs 1,500 USD inc. PSU + shipping, it would take 199 days to break even,
SP35 costs 4,035 USD inc. PSU + shipping, it would take 147 days to break even,
S3+ B9 costs 320 USD inc. PSU + shipping, it would take 173 days to break even, and
AM Tube costs 500 USD inc. PSU + shipping, it would take 190 days to break even.

The network isn't static though and AM Tubes are the only miners in stock. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions.

As I reply to this BTC = ~$396.80 .. so of course these numbers are off, could have been off if BTC was $1000 too, not talking about. What I see missing is the difficulty level factor in this. 147 days to pay back for example using the difficulty rate would be much longer. or am I wrong?

I made up a spreadsheet much like this, used it to compare all the miners I could find on Amazon, ebay and on. Pretty much the SP35 was the best in short time to break even as a single unit. Which is why I was drawn to this topic to start off. I wanted to gather more info.

Tubes was second. Plus easier to get with lower cost so they too hold an advantage. S3 fell in third on how I figure on the spreadsheet.

The poster who posted the 80/20 rule, many post back from this now, is right. Goes further too in forums as if this forum is anything but average, 80 percent noise to 20 percent useful info. Sorry if I spark further trolls ... it was that difficult to read and find useful info here on the SP35.

I don't want to sound negative either, like so many other posts here but it just seems the costs now are not going to pay back for much longer than a 147 days. Electricity cost are not a factor for me. Where my units would be placed I do not pay for the engery, nor the heat/cooling. All part of the lease. I either use it or not. I would get the best bang for my lease if I did. Problem is there is amount to use, that is limited current wise. I would only be able to place in 4 SP35s as is. Then I would have to run additional capacity into the room.

I had mention that these units would be shut down when a lower noise level was desired. Right now, that would be less than 20 hours a week. A drop in the bucket. The room is not that much used.

I am looking at other alt coins for mining and dropping BTC mining. Depends on the answers to this post.

Please don't respond to this post with further trolling. Just looking for some clarifications.

Dale

Best to run your miners 24 hours a day every day. Getting to breakeven (known as "ROI" on these forums) is hard enough already without giving yourself a handicap.
