I would LOVE to setup a group buy, as I think that is the only way I would get my hands on one of these machines.

armed militia has been working on one since the start of september

That looks like some sort of hosted joint investment on an SP50.  I would like to find 5-10 individuals willing to each purchase 1 or more full units for themselves so that we can place an order with Spondoolies.  I have been in contact with 3 people who are willing to purchase multiple units already (if the price is as expected), but again, it appears Spondoolies is not particularly interested in entertaining sales talks at this time.

At MOQ you'll be getting list price, that's how it works.

Exactly, and meeting MOQ still means you need to round up upwards of $500K i would imagine; easier said than done.

Where are you zefir with you Avalon magic that managed to raise 8M$+?

The bigger the order the more discount we are likely to get from spondoolies.

looks like it's still in the planning stages but no sense starting a dozen smaller group buys when everyone can combine into one. The bigger the order the more discount we are likely to get from spondoolies.

As mentioned, jtoomim would make for a great choice to host a GB as well, and I would be interested in joining that if it were made available also.

I disagree. I think he'd be a terrible choice. If you go with toomim you are all but guaranteed to get hosed/overcharged. They still charge $95 a kilowatt! You would probably get a slightly better price than their walk-in rate but even that would likely be higher than $60-$70 which is what most legitimate hosters seem to charge now.

From what I can see armedmilitia is indepdent so he's not locked in to one overpriced hoster and appears to have already secured hosting rates that are almost half of what toomim charges. Regardless I would expect his group by to go with whatever hoster offers the best price/value whereas you can be guaranteed if toomim organizes a group buy it's getting hosted at toomim regardless of how much they are overcharging.

Curious, has anyone updated cgminer on their SP20E to another version besides 4.7.0 that's in the 2.6.14 firmware?

Evening all,

First post and all that, but have been following this thread for months now,

Do we know of the possibility of a group buy being set up? or is that out of the question.

I currently run a number of Spondoolies-tech SP3x series and would like to keep buying their kit due to the unrivalled build quality and form factor.

Kinda a guessing game when buying second hand kit.

Regards
Alex

I would LOVE to setup a group buy, as I think that is the only way I would get my hands on one of these machines.  The problem is that 1) without a published price, it would be impossible to arrange 2) without having all of the group buy participants and money together, SP won't acknowledge that I want to place an order and give me the necessary information 3) without SP giving their approval, I can't even say that they will sell to me if I did get 15 buyers together who wanted to purchase.

It appears the impression is that the units will sell for between 30-45K each and will be available in Q1 of 2016.  I would say if there's genuine interest among a dozen people who have that kind of $, I would love to host a group buy.  Unfortunately, I think it would have to be done blindly for the buyers, without knowing the actual price until all the BTC is collected and a deal has been made with Spondoolies.

In short, if you want 1 of these units, have ~$40K sitting around, and want to pledge it for a group buy of one of these machines, feel free to drop me a PM and let me know.  If there were a dozen people, I think it would warrant a conversation between myself and Spondoolies.

As mentioned, jtoomim would make for a great choice to host a GB as well, and I would be interested in joining that if it were made available also.

I would definitely be interested at some level. Obviously for many of us timing is everything. As much as I love my SPTeam I have to keep things moving more like a business lately and that isn't quite as fun, but still requires the appropriate decision. I will not be running anything over the S5+ efficiency. What is it .44 or .46? But I cannot wait until March of next year to be there.
I'm still working my SP20s and S5s I haven't sold but I am looking at exchanging that + cash to the best I can get. If that is S7 so be it. I believe the bigger the hash can be more important than the efficiency if it is within a reasonable amount because I am a dreamer. heh

I am defintely interested in doing something along this way, be it any size, but I would be as thorough as anyone if I don't see my miner, and if I don't have choices on mining locations that would be important. It could be difficult to rent shares from an SP50. Each person really needs one to themselves and then they work out deals with friends.

Keep me in mind though!

Yeah I could sell the blades but I would like to mine with it ;-)

PM me if you decide to sell it - one of mine is having blade trouble.......

Can anyone tell me which pci power connector corresponds to which loop? I know I've seen a picture somewhere on the forum, but can't find it  Tongue

You might find it quicker to just conduct the experiment of disconnecting a PCIe plu and then powering it on and observe the result. I expect one of the loops also has to power the controller board.

I'm still looking for a SP20 controller ... Spon is charging like 150$ + shipping for one... not an option for now.

yeah, maybe just selling as dead miner would be more economical, especially when btc is rising.
someone with extra controller might just go for it (sorry, not me-i am sold out of SP20).

100 btc for $30K. This is a huge number going forward, considering halving, etc.

...and as each week goes by, it's getting harder to justify buying anything for more than $0.25/GHS. Q1 and Q2 are going to be interesting when it comes to hardware pricing.

Clueless!
I believe jtoomim has contacted SPT regarding a GB - I had email contact with them a while ago regarding this, but there has been no movement thus far. Maybe if you contact jtoomim & express your interest it will help get things going?  Smiley

Man I wish I has a spare $30-40k laying around.  Is it just me or do most people have to think about buying shares of a SP50 vs buying a whole SP50 for their private use?

maybe in a few years we will hear a story of a guy who either motrgaged his house of took a loan to get either a few of these babies or straight coins.
one can get 100 btc for $30K. This is a huge number going forward, considering halving, etc.

That would make a great story and I know we all here hope that BTC skyrockets too.  I'd never have the balls to do something like that though.

there was a guy on btctalk or reddit who used all of his credit card limits in january 2013 to buy $20k or 30K worth of btc (the price was $13 or something like this)-an insane move in most circumstances. It is usually common sense not to do it. However, sometimes a person could get very lucky.
I don't think that he waited until $1000. If i remember right, he sold most of them around 120-130. Still, good timing overall.

If i remember right in july/aug 2013 when BTC spiked to like 50 bucks? 90 bucks or whatever it was...a bunch of 'whales' on bfl chat cashed out ..as millionaires mostly because of wives etc

they were a crying in dec at 1100 usd btc thou.....and we were like 'shut up' you made your million move on...they were inconsolable indeed but then again quite the nice 'mistake'

ah to make such a 'mistake' indeed Smiley

Is anyone aware of a way to have hashrate adjusted based on ambient (intake) temperature for an SP-30? I assume any sp-tech device would be similar however.
I am wanting to use one as a garage heater, but don't want it to "over-heat" the area and damage the miner.
I know it will throttle the fans as temp changes, but I want it to throttle it's heat output (ie. hashrate) so the garage doesn't get too unbearably hot. I suppose if it just stopped mining at temp X and resumed at temp Y, that would work as well.

Pre-order a SP50?

Nobody mentioned preorder. The topic is a group buy, not a group preorder.
