PURCHASE ON AMAZON.COM WITH STARTCOIN: ShapeShift.io‬ has partnered with Purse.io, a service that matches customers wishing to purchase ‪bitcoin‬ with bitcoin holders wanting to purchase items with retail giant Amazon.com. You can now make your purchases with Startcoin: http://bit.ly/1JTnSdP

Great, had to try this. A little bit cumbersome since i'm not in the US, but I worked it out. The transfer of the startcoins, and exchange to bitcoins where fast (a minute or two), then its the long wait for the bitcoins to transfer, lol. Clearly I had to buy Simon Dixon's book: http://goo.gl/dluCxQ

I've been watching start from the beginning. I must say, Im proud of what the dev team has accomplished thus far. I own a few, but it might be time to add to my collection. Does anyone have any price targets for the next month or so?

Thanks!

For the uninitiated this is what part of the pre mine is for

Free coins

The silliest post this thread has ever seen Cheesy

This guy does not know his crypto currency history. When Bitcoins 1st started, Bitcoin owners use to give BTC to other people to popularize the crypto currency.

Many crypto currencies popularize themselves by this, from recollection Dogecoin gave away millions of Doge to websites and so on.

What does not work is mass airdrops of crypto currencies, like Israelcoin. The people getting the crypto currency need some genuine curiosity about crypto currencies for it to work.

Why did you delete your "yes it IS" quote ?

To keep the reply's as short as possible, you got the joke right?

Quote

RECAP :
(1) - no one knows why Max's digital fiat is different than your run of the mill dirty bankster fiat
(2) - no one knows how approximately 9.5 million START (920,000 USD) were spent, who received what and why
(3) - users are required to obey certain rules and conditions before becoming eligible for the "free" coins

https://startjoin.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201992825-How-do-I-get-StartCOIN-

(1) You have got plenty answer to that
(2) You have got answer to that too, and 9.5 mill start is "only" worth $228000 at current exchange rate
(3) It's only fair that the ones who contribute to the ecosystem in some positive way are the ones that receive coins. The miners get coins for securing the network, the pledger's get coins for contributing money (a lot less than the money they contribute). You can also get free coins just by following some accounts on twitter, by going to the trews cafe, or by sharing the site to your friends.

If I contribute a pound worth of startcoin to a project but the price of startcoin falls before the end date for project funding am I on the hook for a lot more startcoin than i originally thought I was contributing?  I can't seem to find an answer to this.  Overall I think it would be good for startjoin to work on explaining in a little more detail how the different payment options play out both for the fixed funding projects and flexible funding projects. Maybe I should just contribute to something and find out what happens. My stash is getting pretty big, by my standards, so I guess a pound worth or two matters not at this point.

My experience is that the exchange rate at the moment of pledging is the one valid for your pledge. So if the price goes down the project gets less funds when converted to £, and of course the opposite if the price goes up. I have newer experienced to be charged more than I pledged. Instead you get some of your pledge back as rewards each Friday, depending on you karma score.

Really like this Startjoin/startcoin concept. The more I study it the more I am seduced by the clever construction.  The interest payments for deposits at startjoin, plus the karma score and rewards for contributions, the no fee for startcoin contributions, and several other layers of strategy that I see going on make the whole project elegantly designed for the purpose of leveraging the network effect.  At first though I would expect exactly what i am seeing.  The project is like a water pump. When you first turn it on it chokes as it sucks air. it has to get going to work properly so the pump must be primed as they say.

One thing I don't understand and maybe someone can explain.  If I contribute a pound worth of startcoin to a project but the price of startcoin falls before the end date for project funding am I on the hook for a lot more startcoin than i originally thought I was contributing?  I can't seem to find an answer to this.  Overall I think it would be good for startjoin to work on explaining in a little more detail how the different payment options play out both for the fixed funding projects and flexible funding projects. lol for a moment there i was starting to think Hippytech might be Max.  Max was doing the Doctor Evil pinky thing the other day and I could totally see him writing all sorts of nonsense just so we would band together and combat it.  Create camaraderie and good things using tools typically constructed for more sinister intent.  I think I have been watching his show for too long....

All cryptos are FIAT digital currency. Do not use.

"Yes it is..", eh ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponzi_scheme
Quote
Characteristics :
The promoter sells shares to investors by taking advantage of a lack of investor knowledge or competence.

- the spent premine remains unaccounted for
- the celebs are, once again, exploiting those who believe everything they see on television eg. monkey see.. monkey do..
Quote
Initially the promoter will pay out high returns to attract more investors, and to lure current investors into putting in additional money.
Often the high returns encourage investors to leave their money in the scheme..
Promoters also try to minimize withdrawals by offering new plans to investors..

- the Startjoin scheme/ online wallet/bank
- interest payments/ rewards are based on your balance's daily average and spending /participation level

The promoter in this case does not sell shares, he gives them away - the premine - for free, which is totally opposite of what a ponzi scheme would do. Giving away shares does not reward the share owners, it actually dilute their share value, except for the possible network effect.

Quote
DEFINITION of 'Network Effect' A phenomenon whereby a good or service becomes more valuable when more people use it. The internet is a good example. Initially, there were few users of the internet, and it was of relatively little value to anyone outside of the military and a few research scientists.

There is nothing wrong with trying to increase the value of "something" by network effect since it makes the "something" more valuable for all, also those who adopt it late. The network effect was what made Bitcoin valuable, and it was what made the telephone indispensable.

Edit: and you don't get a network effect without somebody starting it, and taking all the risk until some critical mass is reached. Buying startcoin now carries a lot of risk because the critical mass may newer be reached. But it also carries some possible future reward that makes the risk acceptable to some people. Having famous people helping to kick-start this network effect is of course a large advantage for startcoin compared to many other crypto currencies who depend mostly on some technological advantage over other coins. But there will always be a better, more advanced coin just around the corner, so this alone is not enough.

You seem to have lived under a big concrete slab of ignorance Hippy Tech Cheesy

In films: you see people in films sleeping on beds with Fait Currency, you see people blowing their noses with Fait Currency, you see people stuffing Fait Currency down their underpants, you see people wiping their bums with Fait Currency after a sh*t, you see people burning Fait Currency, etc.

There is nothing rare in Fait Currencies and this kind of stuff is OK.

For example: if a rich UK citizen gathered up £50 billion (Fait Currency) and set fire to it would not be any problem at all for the UK government. One quick phone call by the Prime Minister to the Bank of England and another £50 billion would be manufactured up to replace it.

However, if a rich person gathered up £50 billion of Gold or Silver and dropped it into the Mariana Trench - no country could replace it. It is rare and cannot be replaced when it is lost in place that no-one can reach.

Or, if a rich person bought 30 million STARTcoins and dropped the only wallet on a USB drive into the Mariana Trench - no-one could replace it. It is rare and cannot be replaced when it is lost in a place that no-one can reach.

This is giving everyone objective facts and empirical evidence to support your explanation!

I see you are Hippy Tech, again, throwing Imaginative Insults at people, instead of offering objective facts and empirical evidence  Cheesy

Run along Hippie Tech, you are outclassed here.

To your ponzi accusation @Hippie Tech - do you also think that Bitcoin is a ponzi, or can only altcoin's be ponzi, why, and do you even know what a ponzi is?

And are you aware that startcoin has funded some of russel brands projects, with more in the pipeline?

You are wasting you time replying to "Hippy Tech", he has cited no actual technical economic flaw in crypto currencies.

This is why he has doodled "666" onto the foreheads of Russell Brand and Max Keiser e.g. calling them Satan or Lucifer. You need a lot of Imagination to believe in Satan, because their is no factual evidence of his existence and most religions believe Satan is bullsh*t designed to frighten children!!!

This is what people do when they have no objective facts or empirical evidence. Everyone, involved in crypto currencies will laugh at that ignorant person's opinions (they have no knowledge about crypto currencies) and calls that ignorant person "stupid" or "retarded".

The person/persons, having failed to convince the more knowledgeable people of his/her opinions leaps and resorts to imaginative insults e.g. they START using imaginative representations of evil to claim the more knowledgeable people are Satan or Lucifer (in this thread). This imaginative insult taps up things that scared people when they were children, therefore they have resonance amongst the more immature adults Wink

This example is not to bad, because it quite fashionable (commonplace) in the West to call knowledgeable people evil.  Grin

I suppose you completely missed the part where, as he was ripping the money apart (like a girlyman Roll Eyes ), Max called Pagans "evil". GTFO plllz. Tongue
