I beleive you would make those coins if you've mined them on the chain that hits 12k blocks first.
no it is not the same, it is exactly the opposite. Bitcoin gained value becuase it is strictly limited, and the chinese found it as a good alternative value investment (better than stones, they use before).

Solo mining anything with 0.1 or greater diff usually is tough....
