Positron Technologies Developer Update May 5th, 2015: Meeting with Erik VoorheesThe meeting went well, and yes, it was just a meeting. We had a great conversation over some coffee. We discussed both the positive and negatives of altcoins in general, Shapeshift.io, Erik gave me a new perspective on Positron, and showed me a an outsider perspective on altcoins that I hadn't fully seen before. He's an incredibly sharp guy and I learned a lot.
It's difficult to put the conversation and thoughts back into words without misstating anything. He said a lot of things that should have been obvious to me but that I had been missing completely, like when you read a good philosopher that fits with your own beliefs. Erik will be coming to this thread later to verify that we met, and maybe he'll have a few words to say.
One "obvious" thing that really stood out to me is that, from an outsider (and some insider) perspective, almost all of our altcoins exist in a speculative froth. There are a few that have an actual use, they push a platform through the froth, coins with purposes like anonymity - DigitalCash, Shadowcoin, Monero. Dogecoin with it's serial tipping, community, and fun. ARCH with it's luxury business backing it. Others, also, but they are rare.
I've written at length about my ideas for being a cryptocurrency based startup accelerator, and allowing the community to vote on project submissions which will then be submitted to the TRON Directors (holders of 6,720+, or 0.42% TRON) and other goals. There is great talent and a network of devs and investors (you all) willing to back TRON. Through my discussions with Erik I realized that when we have a product, the risk of loss becomes far less and new investors will show much more interest.
The reason I've been reluctant to give a roadmap with specific dates is because I was waiting for someone with more experience to give me some advice on the many ideas I had. I would like to state for the record that my meeting with Erik Voorhees was at a friendly level more than a business level. Erik is not currently involved in TRON and all the ideas I came up with are my own, not his. I listened closely to his input and advice and made my own decisions. We did talk about Shapeshift and TRON, he opened a Bittrex account so I can send him a little TRON, and we had a good talk and agreed to meet again.
I previously announced Positron's intent to develop a cryptocurrency-focused social networking site named Cryptogears. We already have the open source social networking software for the front end, and an advanced and secure exchange engine for the back end, both running. We only need to connect the two, and to add features to the front end. Instead of delivering this as a long term goal, I'm moving it to the forefront. I'll announce the entire project in full and get things running within 1-2 weeks. Three devs will be working on Cryptogears while I continue my work on Positron and meet my stated goals.
There's much more information to come about Cryptogears and Positron. Thanks for your support, and you can always contact me on Skype, twitter, or IRC as Cryptowest.
