Hello everyone Cheesy

Been mining Magi on my laptop for a few weeks now, and am loving the community and idea of it. My laptop gets something along 25 KHash/s, out of its processor, which is fine, but I got an idea today.

Somewhere in my basement is a jailbroken PS3, which I have not used in a while. I tried mining bitcoin with it when bitcoin started, and got something like 45KHash/s out of the cell processor it uses. Is this processor at all compatible for mining Magi (afaik it should be), and is there a homebrew enthusiast that could make that happen? I guess you could simply mod the Cell Miner (https://github.com/verement/cellminer) to support m7m, but I am too swamped with another project currently to do it myself Smiley

I would love to give my beloved PS3 a new life Wink So, anybody interested?

P.S. I did a little searching, and found perhaps a better starting point for the cell miner: https://github.com/ssvb/cpuminer

This will be absolutely interesting, and right matches with the direction this coin is going; will take a look at the miner (I hope someone could look into it if possible as I got dozens of things in hand). I guess we need linux installation on PS3 to get the miner working according to Google search?

Indeed I can, I have ordered a new hard drive for my PS3 and will install Ubuntu on it if I manage. I'd be glad to do any testing actually, and am sure there are more like me in the community Smiley

Coin of the Magi!
Magi takes the following form for coin age:
Code: [Coin-age] = [amount of coins] x M(coins, days)
where M(coins, days) is a function of the amount of coins, and the days under stake. [Coin-age] is also the so called stake weight.
What's the relation between the 2 figures. Left figure I see M as a result of days, Right Coin-age the same.
I once saw the white paper, maybe I must see that again to make it completely clear.

The right figure represents for the value of the quantity at the left side of the equation, which is [Coin-age], i.e., coins times age. M is only the value of age actually. The curves with the same color belong to the same staking amount; for example, the curve with red color (2000 XMG): dividing it by 2000 gets to the curve in the left figure. Hope this cleared the question, but feel free to let me know if that still puzzles you, or need any further explanation on the curves.

The white paper only contains the PoW part at this moment, will make up the PoS when I find the time.

Awesome, using a Wii, a PS/3, a fridge or a toaster as miner  Grin Really, I like the idea. Many of unused deviced could be used.

How is Sam and magic? I miss the community.
My package already includes an option to add custom switches to the minerd command line as required, but I could integrate the option as a window dialog box in the Setup.bat fairly easily. I have some patches for the Setup.bat in the pipeline anyway. First though, I have to run the new minerd-legacy code through my compiler and have a play with it. My initial thoughts are that it is still limited in function because the minerd has to be stopped and restarted to take up any modified -e setting. What would be really nice would be if it could be tweaked in realtime e.g. the miner polls a variable held somewhere every ten seconds or so and adjusts itself according to the value of that variable. That would be really neat and could be used with a temperature monitor routine to create a negative feedback loop for thermal management.
Real time control on the temperature is nice. There will be concern of heating sources from programs other than the miner though. Also the miners needs to check the temperature. This is different from program sleep and thus might not reduce the temperature, but will take up resources and reduce the hashrate. From this point of view, temperature control might be desired by another program which takes the output of the miner as the input. This is the case one can use to avoid overheat, either reducing the hash rate is optional if one wants to reduce power consumption as well as the heating.

The miner has a particular focus with consideration of saving energy by simply cutting down the hash rate. There is no ways of reducing energy unless enforcing the miner going into sleeping mode for a certain time, and thus mitigate the source taken-up monster / heat generator. The importance is then to determine the duration; what's done is that, at the beginning of miner launching, hash rate testing, and self-adjustment by enforcing sleeping every 10 hashes in order to yield desired hashrate. Improvement can further done using dynamic adjustment. I am sure complex adjustment by combining cpu usage / temperature etc will be something interesting to deploy further.
