I was messing around with one of my GPU miners last night, and decided to try combining drives.

I took out all but one GPU.  I ran SATA cables and power plugs to 4 2.5" laptop hard drives.  An 80, 160, 160, and 250.

I restarted the computer and let Windows find them all and gave them quick formats to reset them.

Then in disk management, I went through the proceedure to clear them and span the 4 drives into one unit.

Now that it is all done, I have a 605 GB drive to plot and mine on.  It shows in My Computer as a single 605 GB drive.

The AMD FX 4130 quad core is plotting it now.

Damn, I'm good!   Grin

The pool share difficulty hasn't changed, but it does not require more work to find a share. You're finding less shares because the overall Burst network difficulty is rising. Remember to find a share, the pool miner hashes all the applicable scoops then divides by the scaling factor (inverse of the difficulty) to get the deadline. If the deadline is below 50k, you have a share! This is different from POW mining because each share becomes harder to find as the difficulty increases, which is what is happening now.

Also because the scaling factor (difficulty) variable comes into play for finding a share: the amount of shares required to find a block on average should be constant.

For POW: Amount of work to find a share is constant, amount of shares to find a block depends on difficulty
For POC: Amount of work to find a share depends on difficulty, amount of shares to find a block is constant

dcct, did you get my last message?

Quote
I have a dedicated miner here at work that runs 24/7 and was gonna move the drive to it.  I did the plotting on the computer at home because it has a LOT faster CPU in it and got the 2tb done probably days before the computer here would've.  So i would like to move the drive to there but am having issues with moving the drive to other computers because the wallet will not open unless i copy over it.

This one?
You just need a client running there. You could as well install a new one and use it just for mining. Moving the plots over should be no problem.

Yes, but will this affect my blocks in my current wallet?  Everytime before, when i would try to run the .bat file in the wallet it would open an close immediately.  I found that if you just re copt the burst folder back in and overwrite the old wallet it would work and still allow you to use your plots.  Just curious if i can do this now or if it will mess things up.  Taken me quite a few days to find 1 block and if i read the wallet correctly i have 2 now lol dont wanna lose them!  Grin

I like to announce:

The Plot-generator rewritten in C!

It has several advantages over the one written in Java:
- About twice as fast
- Support for larger stagger sizes, only limited by system memory
- More efficient memory handling. With just 3GB you can use Stagger size 8191, with 8GB 24000 is possible. Plots with larger stagger sizes are better, as they require less disk seeks to be read.

You need a 64bit Linux environment to run this. Maybe someone can port it to Windows?

How to run it:
Download, unpack (tar -xzf plotgenerator.tgz), compile (make)

Then use the same command line options as with the Java-generator:

Code:
./plot

You can download it here:
https://bchain.info/plotgenerator.tgz

Cool...Maybe I'll setup an Ubuntu setup to try this out....It would be nice if this was ported to Windows...

I've never worked with cygwin. shabal.s is Assembler code, maybe you need to compile it separately?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Java

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_security

https://www.google.com/search?q=Java+insecurity

The Java platform provides a security architecture[30] which is designed to allow the user to run untrusted bytecode in a "sandboxed" manner to protect against malicious or poorly written software. This "sandboxing" feature is intended to protect the user by restricting access to certain platform features and APIs which could be exploited by malware, such as accessing the local filesystem, running arbitrary commands, or accessing communication networks.

If there is a 0-day exploit in the sandboxing code again then all your source codes are fucked.

Centralization in a codeing language is the most retarded idea i've ever seen.

I was talking about relevant issues.
Burstcoin does not run any untrusted bytecode. And where's the advantage of C/C++ there? They offer no/less protection when running untrusted code  Wink

Memory requirement? Sure, java needs more memory. Speed? Java is slower most of the time. But for security I don't see any issues here.

The language Java has design faults. Not your coded C plot generator.

Sure! What Java design faults - that are relevant to burst - are you talking about?

no im talking about after its completely plotted, before i actually found a block i tried moving the drive and when i did i have to copy a fresh copy of the wallet over the existing one.  After this then the wallet would pull up but like i said this was before i found a block.  What i am scared of is that if i copy over the wallet now it will erase the blocks i have found.
