As far as clones go i think history has shown meanwhile that the first movers and innovators stay on top.

I disagree, only very few users dig into the git. I think devs are on the right path. Users are not even close to a level that is warranted to feel comfortable as being a 1st mover and having that advantage. Dash/Moreno enjoy that at the moment and the very last thing that cloak devs should entertain is giving them a better tech and allowing them to keep their users.
Releasing the source now would be like selling for to microsoft for $50,000. Maybe in 6 months or 18, once the endgame is in site and the network effect in entrenched.
As to your point on trusting it with your life, perhaps let folks get the system for that 6 to 18 months, before adopting. Maybe buy a little just for good measure.
