Very good article here that casts a skeptical light over the current hysteria for ICOs.

https://ftalphaville.ft.com/2017/05/08/2188465/crypto-icos-as-the-new-railway-bonds/

People are throwing billions at these ICOs, I wonder two things:

1) What proportion of the ICOs will deliver?  More or less than the traditionally funded crypto project?

2) How long until there is a high profile legal crack down? https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/attorney-pamela-morgan-explores-initial-coin-offerings-legal-perspective/

This is a very uncomfortable situation for crypto overall, because as these ICOs will be failing and people will be losing money creating a bad karma for cryptospace.

On the other hand, projects which were started fairly like Crown was and teams who have delivered what they have promised will be strengthened by the new attention the crypto space is getting from the ICOs.

All due respect to the development team.  The website looks great and I am looking forward to the wallet and core updates.  That being said... the white papers while well intentioned are completely overwrought.

The preamble and pseudo-philosophy does not add anything.  The lack of clear objectives and lack of technical specifications for what is being proposed is concerning.  Moreover, having to sift through all the superfluous text to understand what exactly is being proposed is a detriment.  I should be able to look at the title of the white paper or the first sentence and understand what is being proposed, instead I have read them all and feel like almost nothing has been clarified, only confused.

The problems crown has proposed to solve, block size and POS/POW alternative are what might bring value to this project.  I understand setting the foundations of the project, but this can be accomplished without the quotes and in plain language that is easily digestible.  Too much esoteric nonsense.

Anyways.  Hopefully more information about these solutions will be available sooner rather than later.

I appreciate the effort of the Crown Team.

With the criticisms you've made we have decided to move away from whitepaper branding, instead they'll be called 'Crown Papers' from now on.

The Crown Papers are more of a compass rather than a specific destination. We know which way we need to go but are unsure about the obstacles we may need to jump over to reach our destination. As we release new features to the network, also will follow technical spec to explain the addition. So maybe slapping white paper in my updates wasn't the best plan.

As a team we have lots to think about right now, like release of wallets, contacting everyone to update, testing...
Once all this is out of the way, we can start to really nail down the 'whitepaper issue'.

good thinking here is prevailing now ..so best of luck for further progress.

Thanks.  Work on next two releases is progressing nicely.  Busy times indeed.

Important

Everyone that uses the Android wallet 'CrownPay' are advised to move their Crown tokens to their desktop wallet before the end of May. The wallet will be updated to utilise better encryption and is due out at the end of May with the core updates. You will have issues recovering tokens if you don't do this.

Sorry for the inconvenience of this but the team think its a small price to pay for the improvements being made to the wallet.

What is the purpose of the site https://infernopool.com/?
For lack of better terms, "a mining collective". When you mine in a pool you use the hashrate of everyone in the pool to find blocks (this is very advantageous for those with very small hashrates compared to the overall network size). For most people this provides a more consistent and even payout period.

Crown Update - Team News

New People, New Skills.

Crown are delighted to announce that Syntaks has joined the Crown team to assist Chaositec, Infernoman and the rest of the dev team in preparations for the next release. Syntaks brings extensive development experience in the world of crypto and we are excited to be able to attract talent such as his.

We are also very happy to annouce that Ivan Labra is providing Crown with analysis and feedback on our future plans and strategy.  Whilst Ivan is a newcomer to crypto, he has played a key role in many open source projects and has been involved in the open source scene for almost 20 years.  Our hope is that he will be joining us in a CTO role to help systematize and scale the platform and community.

Please welcome Ivan and Syntaks to the team.

Growing the Crown Community

As the Crown project grows, the focus is not necesarily about distributing tokens but more about providing opportunities. The value of the Crown project is directly correlated to the ideas that entrepeneurs, developers and members of the community can realise on the Crown platform.

As the project moves forward, we would like the community to consider the opportunites that they might enable for themselves by realising ideas on the Crown platform.  The success of this project will be measured by the depth of the distributed opportunity that it might facilitate.

With the upcoming enablement of blockchain proposals, there exists a great opportunity to become involved and add value to the project.

Full Time Team.

With the recent growth in the Crown community, the Crown team now has four full time members. Please note that at this time, the development team are not paid salaries.

Infernoman will continue his labour of love as our full time lead developer.

Chaositec is in the process of leaving his day job to assume a full time R&D role for Crown. We look forward to Fabian joining us on a full time basis in about two weeks time.

Stonehedge is now a full time Crown team member and will be looking to develop a product & project management function within the Crown team.

Defunctec is working full time on the Crown project and is looking to continue to grow regional communities working with the Crown platform and continue in his role as project treasurer.

We hope to have some more announcements regarding the core team in the very near future.

Thank you very much, stonehedge.  This is the first project that I've officially associated myself with in years aside from Neos and quite frankly it's with good reason.  I'm looking forward to bringing the same brand of unique application and innovation to Crown that I'm known for and working with the team.  It's not often in this industry that you can find yourself in a crowd of genuinely like-minded folks, and I keep my circle small with good reason.  I'll only align myself and projects with solid teams with a true vision and understanding of the potential behind the technology we have at our disposal.  Just as a note for any concerned, Neos development will take precedence as we roll out v3.  Our teams have formed an already synergistic relationship between each other and moving forward I believe that  those combined efforts, knowledge and force will produce enough influence and positivity to really propel us into a future of a truly decentralized world.

Shit yeah, great news indeed! While I personally don't own any neos, I have a ton of respect for the project and regret not picking any up in its pre price explosion phase. It'll be great adding your talents amongst to an already well-rounded team. And it's certaint a breath of fresh air seeing projects with similar ambitions acting as a mutualism rather than a cancer.
