If you look carefully at the bitcoin block size chart here,
https://blockchain.info/charts/blocks-size?timespan=all&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

You will see that the trend is slightly exponential and accelerating, meaning it is not a linear straight line, so the size is NOT tracking Moore's Law.
Assuming a doubling of hard drive capacity every 18 months and a doubling of the blocksize every 12 months (2.05 times precisely), the conclusion is there will be hard drive capacity to blocksize divergence.
Interesting comparison.

Once the 1MB limit is reached, would the blockchain size increase not be more linear thereafter?

Taken to the extreme, when the storage size reaches physical atomic size scaling limitations, this will indicate the final breakdown point ..

Look! Monero's price is tumbling down!

People are dumping it.

Am surprised its stayed up so long based on such shakey bakey fundamentals.
Wish I could figure what the true volume of any cryptocurrency is, as opposed to what it looks like from the outside  Roll Eyes

Wow... He nails the demographic and exactly what I've been thinking of most of the people in the crypto space.  Angry white libertian conspiracy fueled males... and that businesses have lag behind.   Great article Ghost player. Thanks for the irc tip as well.

As a white male I find this offensive. What has the colour of anyones skin got to do with it? How rascist.

To be fair, He wrote "Angry white libertian conspiracy fueled males". You just take the second and the sixth word, and then call it an unfair (i.e. racist) generalization. It could be argued that it's you who is doing the generalising :-)

BTW: "Angry white male" is a standing expression: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angry_white_male

Honest Tim,  I am also a white male as well... And as some one with very close personal friends who are from very diverse ethnic backgrounds,  IE my best man at my wedding Raj is Sikh and my business partner is Asian... Im certainly not racist..... But looking at the demographics... Locally  for example,  the generalization in this article does seem to play out... And I'd say that the doge creator to... Who's a white man by the way,  would have some insight into this.  I would certainly resent bring called racist though.

Being positive is like going up a mountain. Being negative is like sliding down a hill.
A lot of times, people want to take the easy way out, because it's basically what
they've understood throughout their lives.

Chuck D

its not too late to start taking that first step towards climbing that mountain Eduardo,
it will be one small step for you, one giant leap for trollkind.

So iCEBREAKER is acutally Eduardo deCastro? Now he's here trolling DASH? His sig says Evan should go to jail, is this guy really that thick? If I was this guy I'd be trying to draw the least amount of attention to myself and keep my dumb mouth shut. What a fucking tool. I'll be waiting for the "blah blah blah attack-the-attacker blah blah blah" post. You're still a fucking tool and you know it. Everyone should take everything you say with a grain of salt.

•The code is getting very close to the point where we will no longer require the reference node. The reference node was created in order to solve a problem dash has had since the beginning, unfair masternode payments. With the reference node, the network has round robin masternode payments, but this node is centralized and our goal is to decentralize all components of the network. In the v0.12.0.0 version, we’re going to run the network in a hybrid state where the reference node can be turned off and the network will enforce masternode payments in a round-robin fashion just like it does now, except with no centralization. This hybrid state will allow us to still use the reference node as a backup if needed.

"Unfair?"

Payment variance in mining, whether PoS like DASH or PoW like Monero, is completely fair.

Everyone has an equal chance to get a payment, which is the definition of fair.

Confusing the concept of fairness with the concept of equality is a rookie error.

What is not fair is the reference node's priority schedule.

We've already seen it have to start at the beginning of the list because, oops, it was reset.  How nice for those at the top of the list...   Tongue

BTW, keeping the reference node around as a "backup" still retains the massive attack surface it entails.

The "hybrid state" is the worst of both worlds: "unfair" payment variance AND another feature to exploit.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
I basicly did the whole 0.11 darkcoin wallet before evan started working on this. and kept maintaining upstream compatibility and security fies from the bitcoin tree.

I'm overrated, yes. but not overvaluated. and btw i'm for hire.

Hi vertoe!

I'll hire you to write more about the "fishy" things going on with DASH and THE DARKCOIN FOUNDATION INC.

Please tell us exactly how their centralization reaches "deep into the code."

If you want to sell dirt on DASH, I'll buy it by the truckload.  And if it destroys that scam, I'll also donate to the CacheCoin dev fund.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
Is it possible to not have an obviously centralized reference node?

I mean, I get that the node can be taken over, but how can it not be controlled by one person, forever?

Like, I guess you can have such low bars as 'anyone can be the reference node, so it's decentralized', but I'm trying to understand how it can be possible to not need a reference node at all for the <300 masternode operators

Without a centralized reference node to enforce a round-robin schedule, masternode owners must accept statistical variance in their payouts.

This will cause no end of complaints from the less lucky ones.

If you own dozens or hundreds of MNs, it won't be noticeable, but those with one or two will notice significant periods of no or low payouts.

I thought everyone understood variance is part of crypto, whether mining using PoW or PoS, so I'm not sure why the ref node was ever thought to be a good idea.  Once people get used to it, good luck taking it out.

I think DASH types are less sophisticated than almost any other community, so the ref node is there as training wheels for the HYIP kiddies.

Of course this will end in tears, whether because of spork enforcement exploits, reference node spoofing, or THE DARKCOIN FOUNDATION INC's failure to comply with FATCA and a million other laws/rules/regulations.

DASH isn't any more secure than the copy protection on an MMORPG.  If any serious crackers so much as glance at DASH, it will melt into a puddle of fail.

it should be this link : http://dc-charts.com/depth_drk.php?ex=2&cu=0&re=1
but unfortunetely after the namechange this link stopped working (showing no bid / ask orders).

I sent an email to their website yesterday asking them to fix the charts and informed them about the name change to DASH,
it wouldnt hurt if more people emailed them about this..
