Guys what's up with Bitfinex not rebranding to Dash?
Agreed... over a month when they keep saying soon. It's not that hard to find and replace.
I actually see it as a good thing that they have been hesitant to update. A heavyweight juggernaut that trades up to $50 million a day is known for its stability and reliability, and will probably not make changes until they are evaluated, reviewed, and deemed absolutely necessary. Even if it may be technically easy for them, they still need to keep up appearances for the sake of trader confidence. Being extremely amenable to every whimsical request is an attribute of a small exchange that is struggling for volume.
Umm... they've known weeks in advance about the pending name change. Your logic doesn't work here.
I'm just saying that from their perspective, they probably want to maintain an appearance of stability in the eyes of their BTC customers, many of whom keep large sums of money on the exchange to provide liquidity for margin trading. Don't get me wrong, I want them to change to Dash soon too. I'm just saying I can understand why they wouldn't want to do it right away.
Not changing it over 6-8 weeks (only officially for about a 4-5 weeks) is lazy. Their trading engine shouldn't break from doing a find and replace. It's not something you should feel the need to defend. It's sloppy at this point. DRK no longer exists... it hasn't since mid-March.
I agree with Bridgewater. They are attempting to demonstrate stability and order within a realm of considerable risk (crypto exchanges and customers having their funds stored on them). While for us we all expect everyone to use the term Dash immediately, an exchange like that may take some time because they're planning the change-over at a point with other alterations to their interface.
If you look at their set up, they pair BTCUSD, LTCUSD, LTCBTC, DRKUSD, DRKBTC. It's not just a 'find and replace' exercise because the screen real estate has been configured to handle these pairs as six letter entries and that extends through to the wallets, order book, reporting and numerous other areas of the site that carry this XXXYYY format. Now with Dash all those points where a six letter identifier exists have to be changed to seven letters. I'm guessing they're working on a version 2 of their interface and will be incorporating the change to Dash in that release.
I don't think we should be too worried. I'm glad we have them and have been using them extensively recently.
lol. Knowing in advance that the name change was coming should have given them and their team enough time to work out the logistics of the transition and yes, it really is as simple as find and replace. Even with the six letter identifiers, searching for DRK and replacing it with DASH would result in the pairs reflecting what they should be, in all locations. Granted, there's still the replacement at the daemon level, but again, that's a directory, binary, and config rename and nothing more. We know that since they decided to support DRK, they have had to update their daemon wallets countless times through all the protocol updates along the way--so they clearly are capable of updating their "million dollar" trading platform. And don't get me started on the actual trading activity in both the USD and BTC pairs compared to other exchanges--it's still nothing mind-blowing. The other pairs wouldn't be affected at all during this sort of update and if they were, then there are larger inefficiencies in their platform. We also can speculate on the complexity of their trading engine till we're blue in the face, but only they know--regardless, a find and replace would still be the working solution to the problem.
You can continue to justify it but it looks sloppy at this point. Probably going to see nothing changed for another few months. But wait, that's completely fine, right?
