So of the top 10, the top three are based off Bitcoin.
With Litecoin community having just started voting on adding anonymity to Litecoin (that will take about 12 months to sort out if they said yes, but likely it will be a no), its basically Bitcoin and Darkcoin (sorry Doge, sorry BC its that PoS thing).
The problem with non-bitcoin compatible projects adding anonymity is simply Bitcoin. Its lead is accelerating. For those that have already adopted it within their infrastructure it has become a legacy system. For those thinking of implementing it into their infrastructure in the near future, it is the only mainstream option supported by spot rate exchanges like Coinbase. Then its huge numbers of VCs and start-ups that are focusing on Bitcoin.
So here is the thing.
If at some point in the near future the whole world starts to get the need for financial privacy in transactions (if you don't, show me your bank balance and when and who pays you), then there is a problem. so much time, money and effort has been invested in Bitcoin. You either wait a few years for side chains, use complicated third party mixing systems (think of your average Joe and Juliet before you ponder how easy that would be), or you add a Bitcoin cousin - Darkcoin - as an alternative options. 'We take Visa and MasterCard' becomes 'we take bitcoin and darkcoin' (a name change for future mainstream adoption would probably go down well).
Its not competing tech any more, its practicalities of implementation alongside Bitcoin. The whole argument about which tech is better or worse is fast becoming moot.

I understand, I can provide some proof I am the composer like the music score sheet for the orchestra in PDF and also a MIDI File of the same music performed by computer samples. Actually this piece was performed as an encore in a live concert here in Germany, so since yesterday I have the recording. You cannot find anywhere else this music, I guarantee you. So Scrypt ASIC distributor jasinlee likes X11 Coin. He called DRK innovative back in the day in this thread and is a BIG LTC supporter.
The developer of this clone coin is being cheered for developing the first anonymous X11 coin with POS and having a long track record of supporting his coin

I think any altcoin is by design impossible to take off because so many people have agendas now.
