chaeplin it would be handy if your masternode count page listed the actual masternodes by IP. Because this would save me valuable seconds each day logging in to mine to see if they are still alive.  Grin

edit: or would this just provide a convenient list for DDOSers?  Undecided

Yes so no IP please ...

The information is out there for anybody to read anyways! just use darkcoind masternode list and there you have the IPs
same goes for the information of the current MN with darkcoind masternode current

Someone could just do the same thing chaeplin has done with darkcoind masternode count here (http://drk.poolhash.org/masternode.html) for a dynamic list of the masternodes.

You can monitor the current masternode for each block and output it on a website. So anyone can see which was the Masternode for which block. Like blockchain.info does with the bitcoin blocks and which pool mined them.

I know but why make it easy for them  Smiley

I may be wrong, but the daemon itself lists the masternodes, so... not really that stealthy to start off. It would be cool to be able to mask the public IP, no doubt.

But really, whats the problem? remote/local, local authorises server, local goes cold storage - no problem.

My only question is where do the payments to the masternode go with this setup? To the node, or the the local wallet?

+1 for lowendbox. it is website where hosting services post their specials for plans that don't require lots of resources.

Lowendbox has some reasonable options. Some alternatives;

http://www.orangewebsite.com/vps.php - accepts Bitcoin - hosted in Iceland

http://www.ccihosting.com/vps.php - accepts Bitcoin - hosted in Panama

http://www.anonymoushosting.in/vps.php - hosted in the Netherlands

http://www.yohost.org/offshore-hosting.html - accepts Bitcoin - hosted in the Netherlands

http://www.securehost.com/dedicated-servers/ - hosted in The Bahamas and Bermuda

http://www.cinipac.com - accepts Bitcoin - various locations including Iceland and Romania

https://www.1984hosting.com/ - hosted in Iceland

Most of these companies have been in business for a good while and have competitive pricing.

They should really consider accepting Darkcoin !

Thank you for this list!
Im going to be contacting those hosting in Iceland, trying to get them to accept Darkcoin for theyr services. Is there any payment system available ? like a web-store plug in ? just so I know if they ask about that

Bit of a tradeoff security wise though, I prefer keeping my wallets separate, with separate passwords, in separate physical locations, with separate backups. Guarded by separate assault-crocodiles. Then again I'm both paranoid and inept.  Undecided

I just have regular crocodiles. Where do you get them trained to become assault crocs? WI?

My regimen includes forced viewing of X Factor and daily injections of supplemental crocosterone, about 300mg/half-ton of bodymass.

Just a question, DRK come from 0.60$ to 1.60$ with the RC of the DarkSend.
With a final DarkSend and a good adoption of the Dark, what is the price you predict ?

Place your bet now, I'll post the result in a week.

We will see if we made a good prediction in 3 months ! Smiley

sorry for the spam, but we nearly reach the 100 votes. A few more and the results will be relevant Smiley

About the remote/local masternode setup

I just found out that darkcoind can generate more that 1 getaccountaddress 0.As long as that address is not funded, darkcoind keeps giving out the same address. But once funded, it generates a new account 0

Does that mean we can run multiple masternodes from the same local wallet?

I don't know, should give it a try Smiley

I would gladly try it, except I'm getting "not capable masternode" - with local/remote setup

opened port TCP 9999 home router, credited 1k DRK to address 0 local wallet, followed your tutorial (actually, I posted there ealier today) - restarded 20x each, nothing

Dunno, but running multiple "nodes" from one wallet / computer kind of goes against the distributed mixing network idea. So I hope the answer is "no".

Well, but the question is funding your masternode.  Can you fund multiple masternodes, that are on their own machine, with their own IP address, with a single wallet with funds on separate addresses.  I don't see a problem doing that, as long as the system can tell each address is dedicated to a Masternode.  But it may be that the node running remotely needs to be funded by actual separated wallets.

Personally, except for the convenience, I'd think it would be an extra safty measure to keep funds separated, so if anyone cracked one wallet, you'd still have the other??

I want to clear up some facts which I'm seeing propagated around this community about the CoinJoin trustless mixing used in Dark Wallet.

Dark Wallet coinjoin goes through a server, but the server cannot see any details of your transaction nor can they steal your coins. All details are encrypted for the counterparty, and all signing happens in the client.

The only weakness here is that a server gets taken down stopping the service in which case you switch to another service. Even if the NSA controlled the server, they wouldn't be able to steal your coins or observe your transaction at all.

Lastly the server is sharing messages with other servers (we are improving this too), so it isn't really centralised. It is federated kind of like how different email providers inter-operate with each other. The decentralised aspect will only improve over time as we develop standards and deploy technology.

It is centralized or it is not. Like being pregnant. You cannot be a little bit pregnant. Dark Wallet, although I believe it can be a great tool, is still centralized. You have to trust a 3rd party somehow. DarkCoin is decentralized.

Well, I don't know .... I mean, if I had twins or triplets, I think I'd start seeing singles as being a little bit pregos.....  Grin  Cheesy  Grin

Is this all the techies around here have to say about that? As an investor, I`d like to know more about it (true, not true, partially true etc), because it adresses the supposed "unique selling proposition" of Darkcoin.

Personally, I don't know.  I can understand how DarkSend works, I know why it works.  But starting out with the fact that DarkWallet is a plugin to a browser puts me off, rightly or wrongly.  Then, what this gentleman calls "federated" = centralized to me.  Also, I see so much incredible potential with the way Darkcoin is structured for future developments and services.  But Bitcoin really needs something, so I'm glad they have DarkWallet.  I just wish the developers wouldn't be so vulgar about it being only for nefarious purposes.  I doubt, at least when crypto currencies become more main stream, that more than 10% or what ever percentage of cash is used in crime will be used in cyber crime.  The rest of us just want our privacy.

The "masternode list" command already does this for you. You don't have to be on the masternode box in order to execute it.

Hah, I never even thought of that, I just wasted ten minutes writing a cron job to email me the same thing from the masternode and was feeling pleased with myself.  Embarrassed

better wasting a cron job than a blow job though
