So,
What's going on?
The price is dropping! I don't really understand if it's a big dump or other.

What do you think?

It's sad to see the price falling continuously.   The week view isn't pretty.  While on the other hand the difficulty continues to rise.

This tells me two things.  We have two groups, the onces who want to sell off now before they feel it's going to fall even more, cut their losses as such.  And the other group who believe in Dark Coin, who are finding this coin and mining it hard to get as much as they can before the price (hopefully) sky rockets, along with the difficulty.

I'm in the second group, and have been mining 24/7, and have a lot of hope and faith in darkcoin.  The dev is super dedicated and clearly a smart man.  This coin has more potential than any other I have seen to date.

We're all just hanging on DarkSend to be finalized, then we can start marketing the crap out of the coin and its unique technology.  2-3 weeks, hopefully we will all be partying lol. Or at the very least, see a clear change in direction!

Difficulty is steadily rising for sure, 380 right now and we broke 10 GH/S , pretty crazy.

Seems like there's nothing but good news about this coin yet the price keeps dropping. What the hell?

I think it should be open source as well, but there needs to be a better marketing job to build support.

Marketing should follow "delivery" IMO. Right now it's not marketable, as it is.

As for the price there's too much pull of BTCs from altcoins in general the past week. Way too many coins with a downward trend... DRK in particular, I feel there was a surge in mining-related dumping, due to being more profitable, but unlike other coins that have a daily equivalent of 100+ BTCs (which is hard to maintain price), you can buy the entire daily production of DRKs with something like 16-17 BTCs. So, despite the much better position of DRK in this regard, there are some "big dumpers" which, theoretically, have positioned themselves in DRK from the start with tens of thousands of coins - registering 50-100x in profit right now (apparently it's enough for them and want to liquidate). This supply of this type of cheaply acquired coins is not endless of course.

And actually, this does us a favor by making DRK accessible to a lot more people.  Most of us are in it for the long haul, and so the daily price means nothing other than a curiosity.  But if this dumping is causing more individuals to buy a few, that'd be awesome!

Yeah, the best solution for the rest is not to buy their way up but to wait at a low position so that the dumpers can lose as many coins as possible. For example if the price is 0.0013, you don't need to go for 0.0015 buying your way up but instead you place your order at 0.0012 and wait for the dumper to dump more coins for the same BTCs. In this way their dumping supply is depleted faster and the gains for the rest are bigger. There is a small risk of course that the low buy orders won't be covered, and then have the train leave at some point, but that's my approach to this type of thing.

Makes sense, hopefully it picks up soon.

Personally I like the coin because I value privacy. This doesn't mean that I necessarily engage in 'illegal activities.' It just means that I don't want every transaction I make cataloged in a data warehouse somewhere, or in plain view on a public blockchain. I think people are way too willing to give up their privacy nowadays and society is suffering as a result.

You guys should NOT OPEN SOURCE DARKCOIN. There a multitude of copycats waiting for copy Darkcoin's Darksend feature. If you opensource, it will be the fall/fail of darkcoin.

No company in their right mind open sources their projects, Ebay is not open sourced, Paypal is not open sourced, Dwolla not open sourced, Spotify not open sourced. The list goes on and on and on, 99% of all company are not open souced. Open sourcing your project would be plain stupid, UNLESS it's as popular as Bitcoin, whch would take a while.

So in the meantime, DO NOT OPENSOURCE DARKCOIN.

Oh, I get to quote Eduffield already Cheesy

No, DarkSend is definitely going to be an opensource project. We'll do some audits and make sure there's nothing wrong with the concepts and code, then open it up. By the way, it's going to be about 10000 lines of code you would have to add to your coin. It's not easy and you could destroy your coin by adding it. So good luck, this isn't like adding KGW. I don't think there will be many coins with developers that confident in their abilities. There's literally not one file that I didn't rip apart to do this.

DarkSend being opensource isn't that big of a deal, I've dedicated at least a couple years of full time work to making this coin successful. Can any other coin compete with a full time dev? It's the innovation that makes a coin like this successful and there's alot of ideas out there I can implement after DarkSend. We'll have one hell of a coin.

DarkSend is backwards compatible with the underlying protocol, so your dev that's working on the paper wallet need not worry.

I know little about the market, and would love it if someone could explain to me how that works.  How is it that some entities are keeping the price down?  It's weird, and seems illogical?

I don't recall who is managing the drkcoin reddit page, but could you link the Darkcoin logo to /r/DRKCoin instead of the reddit home page?

I think it should be open source as well, but there needs to be a better marketing job to build support before that happens. Otherwise money-grabbing clonecoins are just going to take it and proclaim they've created something new.

Devs please take a look at the official pool, it seems to be orphaning way too many blocks.

this open source discussion is getting ridiculous

of course it has to be open source.

there's this fear that it should remain closed so that no one can clone Darksend for another coin -- that we should wait til our community is already huge before we open the source code. here's the thing: no one is going to use Darksend in the first place if it remains closed source. many of my friends won't even try the beta because they don't not trust the binaries.

Is there a version of ig0tik3d's cpuminer minerd which will run on 32 bit Windows?

I'm sorry to say that 32 bit will have such horrible hash rate, that nobody will bother to make one.  You could, if you don't mind, run Linux on a jump drive in 64 bit, and then run minard:

Copy and paste into a terminal:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install -y build-essential m4 libssl-dev libdb++-dev libboost-all-dev libminiupnpc-dev git automake libcurl4-openssl-dev

sudo git clone https://github.com/elmad/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.3-avx-aes

cd darkcoin-cpuminer-1.3-avx-aes

sudo chmod +x autogen.sh

sudo ./autogen.sh

sudo ./configure CFLAGS="-O3 -march=native"

sudo make

Then do this command: sudo ./minerd -a X11 -o stratum+tcp://drk.lotterymining.com:4444 -u You.YourWorker -p Password

lotterymining.com is a great pool Smiley
