It is possible that full-cpu or full-gpu approach is wrong for maximizing mining output for this coin. I think it may require a hybrid mining solution (GPGPU) where some tasks are better dealt by the CPU and some are handed over to the GPU, either through opencl or cuda.
I think this is something that needs to looked at and addressed.  There should be rules now while this is new and differentiate this in every way and angle vs other coins.  GPGPU is one way...I'll leave this to those more knowledgeable then I but I think we stand to gain much by setting those parameters in stone now.  IMHO...

If it's possible to get GPU's going for this coin, we will eventually end up there anyway. Let the coin go free and adapt to whatever direction it takes. One thing is for sure, asics won't be here in a long time.

What is the reason for doing ASIC resistant coin and not GPU resistant? Both of them significantly rise mining entry level. GPUs less, ASICs more, but the result is the same: the majority could not afford mining on GPUs as they are too voracious, loud and expensive.

Which is what makes the coin scarce, and hence, at least partially, more valuable.

Not scarce as emission rate is steady. May be more valuable due to higher generation cost.

Doesn't CPU only mining create a botnet problem?

Does GPU mining really eliminate it?

Who cares?

As far as I understand, once GPU mining is active it will instantly kill CPU mining and the majority would leave. The result is that mining gets more centralized - again, those who own GPU farms would rule. I don't see any advantages for the coin itself in this scenario.
Not if the devs make sure GPU are less than 4 times as fast as CPU

I would like to see this stay as a CPU only coin. I don't know all the ins and outs of keeping it that way forever, but if GPU happens it happens. I can handle swapping over. But I do rather enjoy this coin as it is now. There is more competition I think. More people upgrade GPU vs CPU. This is the advantage to this I coin in my eyes. Once GPU starts to happen gamers and/or hoarders might start mining and out do the CPU miners. When it comes to power consumption on the GPUs, not everyone has a high rate and there are those that have power included in their rent.

It is likely they will try to squeeze all they can out of it instead of making GPUs "not so profitable".

Is it completely impossible to eliminate the possibility for GPU mining?

Yeah, GPU miners rape coins and dump them. Look at what is happening to UTC at the moment. I bought in with the hopes of a surge only to have miners dump the coin to hell.

Even with GPUs coming the gravity well will keep them from raping this coin.
dont forget power costs. I think the GPU power costs will determine floor for market pricing. We can then use this to day trade Smiley

I LOVE this coin.  The coin name, the coin design, the devs, and the community!

I feel this coin is really going places, and it already is!

I have seen coins die when they implemented the gravity well, this went VERY smoothly with this coin, well done there!

The BIG selling point as suck for this coin the the Anonymous features.  One this is done and up, the coin can only go up!

One thing though,  I feel we need to get this coin established as THE Anonymous coin, before you make it open source, or another coin with even more PR / hype etc could just come up, OR another established coin could turn Anonymous ?...  Just my 2 DarkCoins Wink

Agreed!

Haha true. I just got a bit miffed remembering when Moby Dick breached the mining surface a few days back, forcing us to man the kimotot harpoons. That was quite a day.

Guess I'm going to have to buy a GPU, anybody know what the best card is for the money right now?  Can't afford an R9.

R9 270x are still worth it, just shop around and stay away from newegg.

I've got one 270x in my rig.  It hashes at around 470-480kh/s (scrypt).  24000 tc 1120 core 1500 memory i19

What're you guys currently mining on? I'm on a AMD FX 8-Core right now, but getting only around 180-200 KH/s.

Intel Core i5-3570K, around 270kh/s

Whats wrong with that?

Somewhere on the forum were some posts regarding disadvantages of ASIC mining for Bitcoin. The same applies to GPU mining as it is more specialized and hashing power would be more concentrated. I hope someone would help me to identify these disadvantages as I kept only a feeling that such concentration is wrong.

It all depends on the degree of acceleration and profitability of GPUs in doing DRK or something else plus the watt/performance formula. 2 MHash for a 290 is not much and it could be more profitable to mine, say, dogecoins with it. We'll have to wait and see.

Im using the same processor, getting around 350 khash, you might be using the older miner software.

Thanks for the reply. Hmm, I'm using the one posted on the first page of the thread. Could you link me to the one you're using if it is a newer release? Thanks!
