Is it completely impossible to eliminate the possibility for GPU mining?

Yeah, GPU miners rape coins and dump them. Look at what is happening to UTC at the moment. I bought in with the hopes of a surge only to have miners dump the coin to hell.

Why don't you want to keep it CPU-only?

Its going to eventually going to happen, I would rather put it out there rather than have someone suddenly show up with one and not share.

And now, how about collecting a good hefty bounty for a working effective GPU miner? I'd put down up to 1000 DRK - not much but if many people donate it'll build up.

If more people are interested I could work on GPU miner for a bounty. I already have something more or less working (pools are accepting shares, also solo-mined one block this night with it), but it's still very slow (nearly 2 MH/s on Radeon R9 290). Unfortunately I can't promise it will get much faster, still working on possible optimizations.

FYI

I'll put up 1000DRK, but I want the code you have now, to prove that it is getting at least what you say.

I'll match his 1000DRK

Thats 3000DRK @ $0.35 thats ~$1000

The Mac wallet doesn't seem to work for me.  I downloaded it and dragged into applications and double click to open but it immediately quits and says "Darkwallet unexpectedly quit".  I try re-opening a few times but get the same message.  I'm on Macos 10.6.8.  Hope this can be fixed soon!

I add this to my suggestions along with my initial pitchdark. the chain suffix is very recognizable for cryptocurrencies whilst maintaining the darkcoin brand.

Nice... maybe we can also get a mascot-style cloaked guy emerging from the darkness or something... Cool

I'd been in to donating for that for sure.  Have been wondering why that hasn't happened yet.  I'll check back in a bit and see what you thinking for a bounty.

OMG That'd be all the coin I have!

One guy already posted early this morning that he has a working gpu miner doing only 2 mh/s but it works!

I hear you mate. The thing is, whilst my virt machines were set up doing NOTHING, I returned overnight to see the credit down a considerable amount of money. I looked up the usage details as you mention and they had somehow figured out that something deserved to be billed. I tried again by shutting down everything, and I was still billed the next night. My advice to anyone right now is to just get em setup and go for NOW.

If you SHUTDOWN the virtual machines from the Azure management portal so the machine status says "Stopped (Deallocated)" you are NOT billed. You don't have to delete the machine. But shutting down from inside the guest OS is not enough. Use the management portal.

Do you guys think that this coin might become a world-wide coin for black market??

In that case, I would definataly invest in it

That was not our intention, but It COULD be used for that. We just wanted a coin where it would not be an open checkbook for everyone to see.
Precisely. Freedom sometimes comes at a cost, but the freedom to be anonymous should be privileged to everyone - since we clearly cant trust our governments.

Thanks for the info.  Any idea how long until Darkcoin anonymity features are up and running?  Is there an ETA?

We are very close to putting out a beta for the test network.

It was delayed a little by needing to put in the Gravity Well.

Make sure you follow us on IRC #darkcoin   and Twitter: @DarkcoinCrypto

Can someone please explain the differences between Darkcoin and Anoncoin?

Anon coin is only for the tor network. Darkcoin should be anonymous on the internet full stop ('period' for my american friends)

Anoncoin will use I2P and coin mix services to grant anonymous transactions. DarkCoin promise an "encrypted transaction network" and "coinjoin" technology for anonymous blockchain. For me booth approaches are not soo different.

I would suggest that DarkCoin should use the TOR network to hide mining and transactions, since it is more reliable than i2p and much more mature. There is no point in reinventing the wheel, when reliable approaches exist.

IMHO it would be great if the DarkCoin miner and wallet software implements or interacts tightly with TOR. So that each miner and wallet will be part of the TOR network, providing a TOR relay to strength the network and anonymity.

I would suggest that all the cloud miners out there configure their VM's to be TOR relays while mining ... actually thats what i am doing. Smiley
