Florin is one of my favourite coins, it would be great if it was added to my favourite multi-coin wallet Coinomi.
I believe they are still taking requests

So happy I randomly bought a big chunk of Florin a while ago. I wasn't sure why but it seemed a good buy at the time. It had spiked a few times, double and even triple it's regular value so I saw potential. Now with Alexandria on the cards my bag is looking more and more golden. I wonder what will happen to the price. People are saying 1000 sats soon, and it will just go up after that. Word is spreading now about Alexandria after the YouTube video. If we look at the analogous Vtorrent coin it's really skyrocketed the last few weeks, and seems to be a similar project, albeit not as user friendly and not as technically advanced as Alexandria. So I'm continuing to buy florin while it's still under 1000.

it's clear that if Alexandria becomes the next big thing, since BitTorrent, Netflix or YouTube, and everyone is using Florin in the app, just a handful of florin becomes extremely valuable. Indeed one of the most impressive and undervalued crypto coins maybe ever.

Beta testing for Alexandria is coming soon, exciting times we live in!

I collected a pile of FLO last year since I first heard about Alexandria. I'm in the alpha and it's very cool.

Can't wait for the finished product!

at least you were asking back then why all the interest from large buyers... Smiley

Yeah, I was the first one on the scene waving a flag and shouting that something was going on.  Just did the same thing with CACHe.  And I think the same thing is now happening with ARG and a couple other coins.

It's nice to be right about these things once in a while.

Florin coin (Australian Coin)
The Australian florin was a coin used in the Commonwealth of Australia before decimalisation in 1966. The denomination was first minted in 1910, to the same size and weight as the United Kingdom florin. Florins minted from 1910 to 1945 were produced with a .925 sterling silver content, weighing 11.31 g (0.3636 troy ounces) with an actual silver weight (ASW) of 10.46 grams (0.3363 ozt). Florins minted between 1946 and 1963 were produced with a .500 silver content, weighing 11.31 g with an ASW of 5.65 g (0.1818 ozt).

The florin was worth 24 pence, two shillings or a tenth of a pound. The coin was minted until 1963, with some years of omission. When Australia decimalised on 14 February 1966 the florin was equal to 20¢.

Quick note about the Florincoin protocol:

This protocol is stated to have a total coins of 160 million.  However, the protocol doesn't appear to actually do that.  This network will continue being mined long after 160 million coins are produced due to the protocol specifications:

https://github.com/pascalguru/florincoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L839

Just basic mathematics.

MAX_MONEY= 160,000,000

https://github.com/pascalguru/florincoin/blob/master/src/main.h#L40

However, this is not the actually maximum that will be produced by the network this is only the maximum that can be sent in a transaction.

This is not a problem for the function of Alexandria, am I reading this code correctly or does this cap it off at 160,000,000 ?

Or does this fix it?

Florin uses the same mechanism as Bitcoin and Litecoin where coin production is halved every number of blocks.

This can be seen in the line you referenced:

https://github.com/pascalguru/florincoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L839

Code:
  // Subsidy is cut in half every 800000 blocks
    nSubsidy >>= (nHeight / 800000); // Florincoin: 800k blocks in ~1 years

This will halve the subsidy every 800,000 blocks, producing a geometric series (100, 50, 25, etc.) whose sum is ~ 100 * 800,000 * 2 ~ 160 million.

"Yobit pump alert software" Link in my signature!
This coin is gaining a lot of attention. Many people that would have not even given it a second look, are now mining it. Very nice revival. Great work. It would be REALLY nice to have a bootstrap.dat as the chain is so large or atleast many addnodes or better yet, both. Please post what you can to the op.  Again, VERY nice work reviving an old coin, and VERY difficult to do, and you not only revived it, its VERY alive!!! NICE!!

This is obviously going to be translated into many languages (hopefully hundreds) at some point, will users be able to select a language in the Alexandria wallet down the road?

Yup. And display the exchange prices in whatever fiat they want as well.

@blocktechceo @metacoin

Can you explain how the exchange will happen.  There was something said about being able to buy Florincoin with Bitcoin directly in the Alexandria wallet.  How does this work?  Shapeshift.io?  APIs?

Initially we wanted to go thru shapeshift, but they said Florincoin didn't have enough volume to justify the effort to add it to their system, so we did it internally. It's a very simple process, just click "buy more" in the Alexandria wallet and a new btc address will be generated and provided to the user - a script watches the new address, and when a deposit comes into it, it looks up the exchange price, averaging the 3 current exchanges and sends flo to the users address. it's a 1-confirmation thing, so with BTC it should take 10-20 minutes to load up a wallet to be able to publish content.

That's awesome.  Can't wait to check out the beta test!

If you have time, keep us updated with screenshots and more info as you guys make progress
