Throughout the year we've done extensive testing. On YouTube, advertising-based earnings may typically be $1.00 per 1000 views. Now you must understand that doesn't mean "views of the video", it means "views of the ads in front of the video". With ad-blockers and since not all views have a commercial, realistically earnings are closer to $0.50 per 1000 or $0.0005 pre view. So, if our microtransaction system charges 1 POP and that's worth half a penny, then the content creator is making 10X YouTube earnings. Yes, it's pretty amazing!

How does it work?
The POP Network depends on two core decentralization functions: Payments and Video. Since there is no advertising on the site, video monetization happens through microtransactions. Our platform uses Ethereum State Channels for highly efficient, scalable payments. Value is locked up in a smart contract and transmitted every time you watch a video WITHOUT NEEDING TO WRITE BACK TO THE BLOCKCHAIN. This off-chain system is known as a "Layer 2" solution.
The videos themselves live on the BitTorrent network and are accessed directly through the video player using WebTorrent. As the network evolves, open-source nodes may be able to serve video on behalf of the network and earn POP tokens as a reward.

Is POP a "utility token"?
Legally, there is no such thing as a "utility token" although the term is commonly used. Blockchain is so new that the law hasn't caught up with the real world yet. But, there is growing belief that a token purchased for access to a service has a legitimate function. This is our aim for POP.
The requirements for buying POP as a utility token are really simple. We created Express Purchase so it's just like buying any other digital download…no documents needed initially. However, if you are purchasing POP solely as an investment and don't intend to use it on The POP Network then you must go through the enhanced KYC procedure.
