It was a WSJ blog, not a news article, and it is obvious they didn't do any sort of fact checking, otherwise they wouldn't have said, and then had to retract, that the coin was officially adopted by the tribe.
As for background checking Payu Harris, they didn't even get his tribal background right, referring to him as a Lakota Indian.

the real tribal leaders could accept it down the road if the value returns...
the ppl could just go ahead and accept it and use it if its worth their time and has value...
so now boxxa is taking our advice so the technicals could be fixed....

I am no longer invested in this coin, but where is solid evidence that Payu has a shady past? I haven't seen anything (other than what appear to be fake Facebook pages claiming a fund of his is fraud) indicating that he has a shady past. The WSJ don't do background checks, they pretty much run what comes off the wire verbatim, very little is substantiated unless they are liable to end up in court. This is the same across all media - you put way too much faith in them.
Part of my reasoning stems from an IRC chat I had with him the other night.
I found a charity appeal, organised by Harris, that raised $1000 for native americans. On this site are people asking where the money is, but he never tells them.
What he told me on IRC did not at all tally with what was on the website. What he did say is that no one benefitted from this $1000, the native americans got fuck all. However, someone got that $1000 didn't they? Who was it?
It was not much later that I got banned from the chat.

Honestly I can't believe I invested in his endeavor which is now taking a 180 degree turn.
