We've found the bug causing incredibly low block rewards from the previously failed launch and fixed it. To prevent any other bugs and problems from popping up after release, we've launched a Testnet for around 3 days before release.

The release will now be hosted on Github, so any website downtime will not affect downloads.

About Neptunium
Neptunium is a new cryptocurrency built off the CryptoNote platform. We aim to build a great community and be as transparent and open as possible. CryptoNote coins aren't forked from bitcoin, and offer a multitude of advantages over bitcoin clones. Neptunium allows for untraceable payments.

Neptunium's basic block reward formula is slightly different than that of most CryptoNote coins:
(Money Supply/e + Money Supply) - AlreadyGeneratedCoins

Our Algorithm
Neptunium uses CryptoNight, a proof of work algorithm created by CryptoNote. CryptoNote is designed for modern day CPUs. High end GPUs can mine Neptunium at a slightly higher hash rate, but consume much higher energy, making CPU mining more energy efficient. CryptoNight is completely ASIC resistant. Anyone can mine Neptunium.

Specifications
  • Algorithm: CryptoNight (PoW)
  • Max supply: 2.14 Million (Half life of stable isotype 237Np)
  • Block reward: initial reward of 3.06; slight decrease every block
  • Block time: 93 seconds or 1.55 minutes (Atomic numbers and protons of Neptunium)
  • Emission curve: e^3 (20.0855369232)
  • Difficulty: Retargets at every block
  • Decimal Points: 9

Additional Information:

Nodes
We currently host 3 seed nodes. Hosting a node is a GREAT way of helping us out and strengthening the Neptunium network. Running the daemon, Neptuniumd, will start a node. Make sure you have ports 4460 (P2P, also Neptune's Perihelion in gigameters) and 4540 (RPC, also Neptune's Aphelion in gigameters) open! If you decide to host a node, let us know so we can add it to the thread and/or the next release!

Mining
A block is found every 93 seconds. The CLI release comes a CPU miner for solo mining. At this current time, solo mining a block may take a few hours. Forks of CCMiner and CPU miner both support the CryptoNight algorithm, and can be used in pools.
CPU and GPU mining give similar results, but depend on the hardware. CPU mining is generally more energy efficient.

How to mine with the CLI release
  • 1. Extract the release to any folder or directory
  • 2. Run the daemon, neptuniumd. Then start simplewallet and open or create a Neptunium wallet. You can later import it to the GUI wallet.
  • 3. In simplewallet, type "startmining x", x being the number of CPU cores you wish to mine with. Leaving x blank will result in only 1 CPU core used for mining.
  • 4. Check your hash rate by typing "show_hr" in neptuniumd. Hide it by typing "hide_hr". To see more commands in neptuniumd and simplewallet type "help".
Every time you find a block, you'll be notified in both neptuniumd and simplewallet.

Pools
All listed pools are confirmed to be paying out!

Bounties
  • Block Explorer: 500NPT
  • Currency Exchange: 2,000NPT (courtesy of coomme)

Neptunium is released, the testnet is down for the time being
If you want to test Neptunium for yourself or plan to mine, you should take advantage of the testnet.

Testnet downloads
Testnet CLI (With miner): https://github.com/neptuniumteam/Neptunium-Testnet/releases/tag/v0.3.0.1
Testnet GUI Wallet (Testnet Core): https://github.com/neptuniumteam/Neptunium-Testnet-Core/releases/tag/v0.3.0.1

I've already mined on the Testnet before release for testing purposes! The release won't have any premine. If you want to use the testnet without mining or just want some coins, send me your testnet address and I'll send you around 10NPT. There's currently no GUI wallet available for the testnet, but may come within the next 2 days. The official release will come with a GUI wallet.
