It's all to do with the stupid asicminer blades that have an ancient getwork miner in them ... still ...

WANTED: Active dev to fix & re-write p2pool in C
February 07, 2014, 03:52:15 AM
Huh? What do proxies have to do with p2pool ?

-MarkM-

Yeah, asic hardware that doesn't use the stratum protocol (as well as some that does) won't work with p2pool, & slush's stratum proxy won't work with p2pool either - making p2pool a no go for many miners unless they invest in a whole new hardware outfit that's p2pool compatible - which is what I've ended up doing. I can't believe that the devs at p2pool haven't come up with a solution to this yet (like, over a year), as this would instantly open up p2pool to a much wider potential miner base & increase their hash rate massively....So, if anybody knows of anybody who can write such a program....?

Anyways, so far so good with the latest Ixcoin wallet on Xubuntu 13.10, just thought I'd let you know - sorry it's a bit late  Wink

Peace  Grin

p2pool definitely uses http, that is how you view its plots and stats and such for example as well as being what you tell cgminer.

Don't Avalons work with cgminer?

I have a bunch of klondike 16 boards I think those use Avalon chips don't they? And cgminer supports them.

-MarkM-

This guy uses it

But you don't need stratum to use p2pool do you?

Doesn't p2pool adjust the difficulty to optimise for your hashing speed?

Also what miner does not support stratum?

-MarkM-

I don't think p2pool supports http.

And old asics like avalon.

A proxy is needed when your miner doesn't support stratum from p2pool.

I was going to use p2pool (my own node) as that is what I've been using for months now with some success, however, most of my new hardware is not compatible with p2pool & slush's proxy doesn't work with p2pool either (surprise, surprise  Roll Eyes). I was using bfgminers proxy on my old system but the 30+% loss of work is too much for me to bear, so I upgraded my whole system to 13.10 (it needed doing anyway) in the hope that slush's proxy would work with it & p2pool - but no. So the p2pool merged mining node is off again. I like the idea of p2pool but it just doesn't work with most of my hardware........still.
Thanks for helping me upgrade my ixcoin wallet though  Grin

Peace.

We are accepting donations (bounties) for all this hard work.  lol.

You're the MAN!!

Good to go with 8 connections straight away - many thanks dude  Grin

Let me know if you have any issues with the new client.

BTW, are you merge mining with the new client?

That's the plan my man - I'll let you know how goes it if you like?

Peace.

But are you using a pool?

Got it!

Finally an updated IXCoin Mac OS X wallet, compiled by maxpower.

iXcoin-Qt-0.8.6.0 Mac OS X

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jzabc3mm8hxhxex/iXcoin-Qt-0.8.6.0-Mac.zip

Maxpower?  What?

I thought Friction did the QT update?  Hmmmmm.

So who's gonna do the .7 update along with the native colored coins code upgrade?  Cause I thought our Friction was doing all this coding.  I've been praising that man as a Brilliant Genius so I'm a bit confused now.

Bitcoin comes in two parts,  bitcoind (which includes the core protocol) and the QT stuff (which includes the UI).   I worked on the bitcoind, porting it to iXcoin.  I also modfied the QT code so it would be specific to IXcoin.

Maxpower, is an expert at putting together the MacOS X binaries,  so I had him build the source to create these binaries.  I paid him IXC to perform the work.

This stuff is complicated and time consuming.  Like I said earlier,  I delegate some of the work because I don't have all the time in the world to do everything.   The Windows QT is a bit delayed because the person who does that is delayed.

In short,  the QT compilation is a pain to do,  and prefer someone else to do it.   Compiling and testing the C++ core libraries is entirely different and much more fun to do.

That's cool, thanks for the clarification.
