So whyshould anyone mine for this ? i  do not clearly understand why just faster inflation is any davance to the bitcoin system..
It's not an advance, it's an excuse to create a new blockchain in which you're the first adopter to become freaky rich.
Not gonna happen though.

"... there are currently ~580K Ixcoins (as of 10th August 2011)..."

Who, as a matter of interest, has these 580k ixcoins?

"The mining difficult is silly small - for a few hours at least... So start mining asap!"

By the time other miners could come on stream, the owner of the 580k ixcoins will have a lot more, out of a total of 21million.
Other than that, I don't see any purpose to this poroject, and much potential harm.

"Early adopters! Its not fair! They should make sure all miners know about the proposed new blockchain and set a start date in the future for the date its genesis block is to be created so miners can be ready to start mining it the moment its genesis block is created!" - Anon

Someone's desperately trying to become an early adopter here.
Lame.

Looks interesting. Part of the awesomeness of tech is that you can change the world overnight. 2015 sounds like a much more internet-esque timeline than 2033 Tongue

Ixcoin is a fork of Bitcoin with twice the inflation rate of 96 Ixcoins per block and the same 21 million total limit.

Ixcoin is intended to closely mirror code updates to Bitcoin to allow for easy interoperability with Bitcoin-related third party services and APIs.

More details at http://www.IxCoin.org and in the FAQ

How does Ixcoin differ from Bitcoin?

  • Shorter maturity period

There are currently ~7M (as of August 2011) in existence and  it is expected that all 21 million Bitcoins will have been generated by 2033. Whereas there are currently ~580K Ixcoins (as of 10th August 2011) in existence and it is expected that all 21 million Ixcoins will have been generated by 2015. Ixcoin maturity will be reached ~18 years before Bitcoin's.

This is because a 16*6=96 IXC reward is created per new block instead of 50 BTC in Bitcoin.

  • New blockchain

Although Bitcoin's blockchain is in the same format as Ixcoin's, they use different genesis blocks and have a different reward scheme. So Bitcoins will not be valid in the Ixcoin blockchain and vice-versa.

  •   Different default ports

Bitcoin's operating port 8332 is now 8337 with Ixcoin.
Bitcoin's RPC server port 8333 is now 8338 with Ixcoin.

  • New key format

Wallet public keys now start with the letter x instead of the number 1 for Bitcoins.

    Bitcoin wallet key: 175tWpb8K1S7NmH4Zx6rewF9WQrcZv245W
    Ixcoin wallet key : x75tWpb8K1S7NmH4Zx6rewF9WQrcZv245W
