I too am running cgminer today, to test stuff and see how it goes (-s 1 -Q 0 --no-longpoll ) and it's doing remarkably well on mere 250 mhashes so far (despite the notably raised diff)

cgminer had no trouble - there is a block in there (literally) with my name on it Tongue

I've been thinking - leaving aside the craziness of 15s blocks (or lack thereof, since so far there seems to be no indication of Terrible Terrible Things Smiley ), such rapid generation should make the Hypothetical Thin Client for Geist (think along the lines of bitcoinJ) much more resistant to Finney attack ?

After all, Lex Luthor has only 15 seconds (on average, so give or take few) to steal 40 cakes from hypothetical Geist merchant, no ?

Am I being silly ?

This alt didn't even change the name of anything from bitcoin? Even the addresses are still bitcoin addresses? Redo!

Geist addresses are different - they start with a g (I just never thought I should list that as a feature or somthing lol )

I might bother to change all the names and textual references  in next release, to make pedantic folks happier.

Damn, I still get:

MSG: Bitcoin is not connected!
Failed to connect, retrying...

This is with Bitcoind.exe running and the .conf file in the \AppData\Roaming\ folder (just downloaded the bundle too). Halpz!

Hm.

Are you on win or on Linux ?

can you post getinfo ?

can you try another miner (so far poclbm is working like a charm and I will experiment with cgminer more today)

What's the port I should be using for localhost?

Am I doing this right?  I copied the bitcoin.conf to \appdata\roaming\geistgeld\ and \appdata\roaming\ (wasn't sure where to copy it so I just put a copy in both directories), ran geistd.exe and then started Phoenix like this:

phoenix.exe -u http://username:password@localhost:8777

But it never connects.  Am I using the wrong port?  I put portsend=7769 into the .conf file too.

I put the conf file into my bitcoin folder in roaming and it worked just fine.

the high reject rate is because cgminer is ignoring "target" in getwork and just blindly sends every H==0 share. so at diff 100 you'll see a 99% reject rate.

So many questions. You can PM if you prefer not to take this offtopic but what is H==0?

cgminer sends all shares to the pool or server (whichever you are connected to) - in this case the server i.e. ggd (well that's what I called it after only spending 5 minutes to fix all the crap lazy naming stuff that the fool who set it up didn't bother to do)

I presume "H==0" is ArtForz's way of saying difficulty=1 Tongue

Cgminer will send it all hashes that are '1' difficulty - i.e. look like 00000000XYZ... where from XYZ... etc can be non-zero or zero.
It does this for the obvious reason - that's what a pool counts in order to pay you - shares, not successful block hashes.
However, since shares are also somewhat rare (on average one every 4Billion hash attempts) it's doesn't cause a problem to do that.
What you are looking for is a single "Accept" - that means you found a block - coz ggd will only Accept hashes that meet the required difficulty.
If you look at the top of the screen look at "A:" to see how many blocks you found (though they can get orphan'd of course)

Now to get the % average Accepts - you simply look at the difficulty (as ArtForz implied)
If the difficulty is 100 then on average only 1 in 100 shares will be successful block hashes - thus on average 99 shares will be rejected and 1 share will be accepted (since it will be a successful block hash at the current difficulty)
(as ArtForz said)

That can be done in a future update release. The exploits are the important learning curves we are getting from this.

45 Geist Geld coins will (I think) forever be gone.  I had 45 before my computer decided to crash and I reformatted HDD.

45 is not a multiple of 7. I call BS!

just kidding. :p

The only thing I can really claim credit for is the number 1.769

So what is the rationale behind this number?

Yes! Fresh coins are coming in again! Now from 4018 to 4039.
Could it be the high hashrates that came in from BitcoinExpress?

network is being pounded. I just saw the highest diff rate of 170 just hit.
