Maybe if you had an S2 kit, then perhaps you could use the daughter board to plug in hash boards, but that is about it.

I would think that Bitmain would only sell the upgrades to confirmed original owners who still have there s-1. To prevent ebay users who have such a small investment getting a great deal.

Bitmain can you comment on this. I have 7 s-1 and 5 s-2 i want to upgrade.

My son goes back to college in a couple of weeks and has FREE electric in his dorm. I'm packing 2 S1's and a 850W PSU for him to take to school and run for me. If he can get anyone on his floor to agree, I'll bring 2 more S1's when I go to visit him.

Does anyone know for sure if there will be an upgrade path for the S-1. I am holding off on buying the S-3, if I can get the same hashing rate at a lot less than the cost of a new S-3. Right now on Ebay, you are lucky to get $150 for an S1. If Bitmain comes out with an upgrade kit, then maybe now is the time to buy S1's on Ebay. I'm sure that the S3's are a lot quieter than the S1's, but it's all about cost for me and I'm sure for a lot of other people as well. The biggest problem with the S1's now is the cost of running them. Maybe shutting them down until we find out one way or another about the upgrade plan is the best thing to do? Or until the winter heating season arrives.

Do you know how to solo mine with the S3?

I follow all the general steps to do it except the part i have to put inside cgminer a bat file with command line because in this case cgminer is inside the s3 miner.

Klondike, many thanks for the advice, unfortunately past taking the cover off and re-seating cables using a multimeter and more in-depth electronics are past me Sad

I will ask a friend who used to work in electronics manufacturing to test with a multimeter when he returns from holiday.

I have sent them messages from the account page of the Bitmain site but I don't think this feature is working properly yet as I have still had no response.

grab a multimeter and probe around for voltages across the inductor and any other points that are available (the S1 had a few exposed copper points ideal for meter testing). It is possible that if the first regulator/chips in the chain (left side of pcb) are faulting, the entire chain of chips after it will not recognize or respond correctly. I had that issue with the S1 and there was no 1.1V current in the first 4 chips when there whould have been)

in this case you should see a 0.75V difference across the inductor, or between inductor and GND. if not the regulator may not be outputting any 0.75V power and thats your issue. (like i sid, if the first chips in the chain dont get power the entire chain/PCB wont hash)

I did remove the covers and remove and re-install the controller to hash board white ribbon cables. I did also try swapping them over to see if chain # 2 appeared but nothing.

Did you try swapping the controller to hash board cables to see if the issue moves to the other blade?
