Nope - still don't see the reason why a toy miner requires a pre-order of months.
It's old mining chips with poor Hash/Joule.

Oh, you are going to design a better one then? Without pre-order, ready to ship in 24h? Where is it?
Or, alternatively, you will point us to a better home miner? No?
That's makes it best home mining box available, I'm right?
Seriously don't get your toxicity dude.

Nope - still don't see the reason why a toy miner requires a pre-order of months.
It's old mining chips with poor Hash/Joule.

I'd just wish sidehack would make something with recent mining chips.
All the major manufacturers are ignoring home mining, expecting 3kW and more per miner, so we end up with poor performance old hardware for home miners.

125 watts 2TH/s is 62.5W/TH ... = over 810W for 13TH/s ... if you wanna compare it to VERY OLD hardware.
(and that's assuming they're not doing the typical over hype stats also)

The node option is pretty poor also.
Firstly, there's no way you'd ever run your own solo mining with it, that would just be a major block loss waiting to happen for most people.

So to run a node yourself, you want an at least an i3 with at least 8GB ram and 1TB HDD, stick Ubuntu on it and add Bitcoin core.
A current full node needs over 360GB of disk space just for bitcoin.
500GB isn't expecting it to last for very long.

NVMe is faster than HDD, but makes no difference for the bitcoin network at all.
Space matters.

Bottom line is it says $600 for old mining technology and a poor spec node that will need upgrading in the not too distant future.

Edit: and with the upcoming taproot changes - using core bitcoin just means getting the next version from them
(see the link at the top of the page)
... especially if there's any bug fixes for taproot before/after it goes live.

Kinda what I figured. I'm probably the only one crazy enough to do PCBA in-house. Probably saves a bit of money but it sure ain't easy.

As a domestic manufacturer, I can confirm it's not easy to get full batch funding without some kind of pre-order. Very rarely have I been able to do a first batch of something without preorders, even though it sucks having to do that.

jstefanop, do you do production in-house or outsource to a fab?

We work with an awesome fab house in california for fabs and PCBA. Final assembly and shipping is in house at our facilities in Cali and Brooklyn.

I’ll wait until it becomes available on Amazon. Apparently, there is not even 1 unit available in their inventory.

Shows up at blockchair. I’ve been looking at any sign of this device which has been in “testing” by these folks for a while - but haven’t been able to locate even 1.

Total number of Apollo as node showed up around 71 and 1+ year later it has decreased to even lower. So, kind of doa I guess.

For now, BTC lovers who want to support it, this thing would do at much cheaper cost -> https://getumbrel.com/

I guess what I want to say is it is EXPENSIVE for what’s supposed or capable to do. I don’t think I would make the same mistake as I did couple of years ago -> 10+ moonlanders and 3 Apollo and all ended up in recycle bins. My mission was to learn and educate myself with crypto. Mission completed (almost) but they couldn’t even pay for electricity.

Yeah, it’s my 1st post because I stopped using this forum long ago and can’t remember my previous id but used to be active here - mostly with LTC stuff!

A little about my experience with this company / folks: their Apollo’s support still is coming soon. Getting wifi to work was only kind of possible if you didn’t have special characters in your router’s password - just a few letters / numbers!

Last but not least, I would preorder IF these guys would ask for “some” money and then when it is ‘shipped’, then charge the rest. Not that I don’t trust them - I just don’t trust individuals who want to get my money first, then ask their builders to build these as requested.

Sure its going to be on amazon, but cost 100 more to cover the fees and people buying it mining and returning after 30 days.

We actually have a total of 4 units in inventory, they are all currently running at 140% maximum wattage trying to kill them, but not one has died yet  Grin

Not sure what you mean by trying to "locate" them. If you are talking about full nodes, they are running stock variant of bitcoin core with no flag set.

Expensive? Please point to a plug and play full node setup you can buy and a 3TH miner that can be run in your home that is under 600. Most node hardware companies are in the 300-800 range, even a DYI setup will cost you ~200 in components You should also check out eBay, our USB miners are selling second hand for 100+ and Apollos 600+ more than twice what I sold them for. You just trashed quite a big heap of cash (if you're not already trolling and probably already sold them for way more profit than i ever made on them).

Wifi was always an alpha feature on our original Apollo, and never hid that fact. The wifi controller was buggy and the chip maker never released a fix for it. Like you know there were simple fixes if you really wanted to get it to work. Either way that won't be an issue with the modern wifi controller on the Apollo BTC.

If you knew anything about how hard production is for low volume electronic devices like this (especially being made in the USA) you would know that 1) im barely making any profit off these 2) a pre-order is there to find out how many people are serious about ordering one 3) production takes time and component orders have to be placed ahead of time...im not ordering 100s of thousands worth of components to have a large % of orders cancel during ship time.

Even the chinese companies that have 10s of millions in their coffers do pre-orders for lead times twice as long as mine. Hopefully one day ill get to the point where I have enough to place an full order ahead of time, but im also not here to rip people off and charge 1k for a 300 dollar device.

I dont need to defend my reputation on here, I have built thousands of devices, multiple pre-orders and delivered everything as promised to every single person. I can also count all the returns I have had in 5 years on my two hands (not including the douchy amazon folks).

BobLawblaw, you should have a chat with bitshopper

jstefanop, is the miner portion of this perhaps based around Bitfury RD6?

For reasons you probably already know I cant confirm or deny  Wink

Saw this posted on the WO thread yesterday, and thought it looked interesting. I would be interested in something beefier in the hash rate department, but it's nice to see home miner solutions being made available again.

Paying with crypto for these is just a bad idea in general, but if paying with Paypal, that affords you some measure of protection if they do not deliver on time. Paypal doesn't fuck around when it comes to their sellers not meeting production deadlines for pre-orders.

Good luck with this project. We need more mining decentralization. Give me something in the 1200w range, and I would be interested in picking up a few for our upcoming ranch, which will be powered by wind and solar almost exclusively.

Went to order and use crypto but getting slammed with an $80 US transaction fee.  So much for the 5% discount Sad

Anyone else having the same issue?  Maybe I'll wait for the network to cool down.

Paid yesterday straight after orders went live, I paid about $6 network fee and was confirmed within 10 minutes. $80 is waaay too much. You can change your desired network fee, you know. I use this Telegram bot to determine what fee should I use for 1 hour confirmation, or 12 hours etc., if I'm not in rush.

Also modern wallets like Electrum support fee bumping afterwards (RBF), accelerating incoming unconfirmed transactions (CPFP) and even cancelling transaction completely (double spend).

I'm in at #3410.

@jstefanop odd question, the address I am having it shipped to, if it gets delayed past May how difficult is it to change the shipping address? The house is up up for sale and although I doubt it, there might not be anyone there past late May.

Also, is the controller a custom spun device or something off the shelf.

-Dave

Its off the shelf, but will probably need to do something custom if we ramp up volume. The PCIe NVMe M.2 slot is custom that attaches to it though. Thats where the real speed up is especially for full node syncing/operations.

No problem with editing your shipping address, just shoot and email if you need address change.

Thank you to all the orders for everyone that has placed one so far. Turn out was amazing..at this rate all the centralized farms will be shutting down in a year  Grin
