Happy to announce that Altcoin Wallet has brought Rapture to the Android and is available in the Google Play store now!

Official apps are in active development, but Altcoin Wallet integrated us quickly and it looked great in testing.
We'll be doing a lot more customization in our own apps, but for anyone that wants the convenience of a mobile wallet (this makes setting up a wallet
far more easier for charities and non-profits and also supports sweeping paper wallets), this is a great option in the meantime!

If you're on Android, have at it!

A few quick updates.....the new Rapture icon has been pushed out to all of the various sites that have Rapture listed. Quite a few have updated already and it's working much better than the previous logo in the various contexts that we've seen it in. Second, we should have some Android integration to announce today. The official Android wallet still has a good amount of testing, design, and cleanup work necessary, but we've found a good partner that has integrated Rapture and should be updating their app  in the Google Play store today.  Will post more info and links once that's available. Thanks!

Just sharing some color variations that show the flexibility that we're going for with the logo....the idea is that the background will often be different depending on the context.

For example, if we're partnering with a children's charity, we could use artwork that they provide.

A quick followup to yesterday's post. The first send and receive transactions were successfully broadcast from rapturej into the mainnet today! Next step is to do the same directly within the Android wallet.

Following up with a response from Discord user @Pooiz who was asking what the main function of the mobile apps will be....here was the response to that question:

They're a pretty critical component in engaging and partnering with charities and non-profits. Ease-of-use and familiarity is the main appeal.....pretty much everyone knows how to install/run a mobile app and most people (rightly so) feel more secure when it's coming from an authorized storefront like the iOS App Store or Google Play. It gives them a way to create a wallet using recovery seed words, which is great for an organization where having paper records and backups is important. It also allows them to sweep/import our paper wallets by scanning the qr codes.....so for organizations that want to participate, then can start by just creating a paper wallet address, and then sweep it pretty easily when they decide to start using the mobile app. There are quite a few components of our project focused around QR codes, so having a wallet with an integrated qr reader (via a phone camera) is something we're looking forward to!

Beyond organizations, all of those reasons apply to casual users or the general public that aren't that familiar with crypto but who we'd like to engage. We have a big focus on real-use cases, so having Rapture be accessible and as user-friendly as possible is important and the mobile apps are  a big step in that direction.

UPDATES

Just wanted to post a few quick updates. Made more good progress with the android wallet today. Neoscrypt is integrated and is hashing properly and rapturej (the library that the android app runs off of) is establishing an initial communication with the block chain. Feels like it's only a couple of days out from being able to send and receive transactions. Also, we're going to start rolling out our major visual updates sooner rather than later. The initial plan was to do a big release of updated visuals, apps, and the website all at once....but the visuals have been looking good and we've decided that it's better to get the updated identity out there sooner rather than later. Once we publish the logo, we'll circle around with all of the sites (listing sites, exchanges, our online tools) and make sure that everyone has the new assets. On the iOS app, Martin has been waiting on getting new visual assets delivered to him but is in a pretty good place code-wise. Feels like both mobile apps should be ready to submit for beta testing before the end of the month. One last bit of news in terms of wallets, had a good chat with one of the main Coinomi devs on Telegram and he was very much a fan of what we're doing with Rapture. He said he'd looking into getting our listing request with them expedited, so we're looking forwards to having that as a mobile option as well.

An interesting idea. Tell me at what stage of implementation your project and when the work will be completed?

Hey leithaleget, we're just over 2 months since launch. In that time, we've expanded our team out to 5 contributing members (3 in the US, 1 in Canada, and 1 in Brazil) and have been working non-stop! The first month was about getting the project launched, establishing a stable mainnet, building the community, and starting to build the tools around the project. The second month has been about engaging with charities and organizations, and learning and adapting from that process.

A few weeks ago we enrolled our first partnership into our CharityNodes beta program: http://animalfriendsjogja.org/page/partner.php . Connecting and partnering with a charity that had no prior blockchain experience and bringing them on board was a great milestone to build from. We've had interest from several other organizations and we're working hard to foster new connections as well as make it as easy as possible for charities to participate.

We're all about educating charities and non-profits and helping them to understand how the blockchain can positively impact not only how they receive donations and support, but also how they provide support to their causes and conduct their daily operations. We see Rapture as performing many functions, the obvious case being a vehicle for sending/receiving support and donations, but also something that can provide utility to them beyond just converting to fiat. One of our biggest priorities is the whitepaper, which clearly outlines the goals and applications of the project.

Another priority at the moment is a complete rework of our logo, visuals, website, and apps. Our mobile apps are in development (the iOS app is getting very close). Coinciding with the publishing of the whitepaper will be the new visuals, and they're looking stunning! The new logo feels bolder, more positive, and more accurately communicates our goal of having the project be as open and accessible to all faiths, backgrounds, and cultures. With this rollout, we'll be making a push to get much broader exposure for the project. Our exposure has been very limited so far, but we feel that almost everyone that has found our project has been behind the goals and has been encouraged by seeing how committed the team is. We've started as a small, grass roots project, very anti-ICO in nature, favoring the approach of growing with purpose. In terms of "when will the work be completed", we're checking items off the roadmap as quickly as we can, and for every item we complete it feels like we add two more new items that feel even more important! The community has done an amazing job of introducing new ideas, concepts and approaches for the project, and with those the plan is to keep growing and making something that we believe in.

Hope that helps explain a bit about the project!

Rapture Docker setup

Discord user @tom_ua#5072 has finished putting together his Docker setup for Rapture masternodes and he's written a guide running through the process. The Docker setup allows multiple Rapture masternodes to be hosted on a single VPS, with each masternode having its own ip. There are several people operating multiple masternodes (especially users that setup a node early on and have used the accumulated rewards to setup new nodes), and in those cases this type of setup may be easier and more cost-effective to manage. Our masternode setup guide is geared towards beginners and we've tried to make it as accessible as possible.

The docker setup is more complex and if you found the basic setup challenging, the docker setup may be overwhelming. But for the power users and anyone comfortable in Linux, you'll probably love @tom_ua#5072 's approach if you're currently managing multiple VPS's. With that disclaimer, here's @tom_ua#5072 's guide: https://goo.gl/D93EtT (Thank you so much for putting this together!)

Rapture v1.1.1

Just a heads up that Rapture v1.1.1 binaries are available: https://github.com/RaptureCore/Rapture/releases/tag/v1.1.1.0
- Minor update to deploy a new version of the testnet and update checkpoints.
- v1.1.1 nodes will no longer communicate with v1.0.0 nodes and the MIN_MASTERNODE_PAYMENT_PROTO_VERSION_2 flag has been bumped up.
- Also includes a fix to handle occurrences of the masternode list showing an incorrect NEW_START_REQUIRED status.

This is an optional update. There's no real need to update your vps if you don't want to risk interrupting your rewards schedule. The main difference will be for users that were seeing nodes reported as NEW_START_REQUIRED even though they were ENABLED.

I just want to have a very simple and straightforward explanation as to why masternodes are needed in the network? Is there a justifiable solid answer for this question? I've been trying to understand the role of masternodes in various networks but I always come to this conclusion: they're not needed. So what makes this coin special?

https://blockonomi.com/masternode-guide/

"Simply put, a masternode is a server on a decentralized network. It is utilized to complete unique functions in ways ordinary nodes can’t. It can be used for features like direct send / instant transactions or private transactions."

In a nutshell, masternodes increase the stability and security of a network. In our case, we run special masternodes called CharityNodes that get assigned to charities, so that the charities earn RAP directly from our blockchain. So by supporting our cryptocurrency, you are bringing value to charities directly - without having to actually DO anything, or "give away" anything.  Smiley
