It all originates from a gloomy rain-filled day, in which I read the entire contents of a Roget's Thesaurus - front to back.  I plan on writing more, possibly making one of those new-fangled "blogs" that I keep hearing about.  I am working on a bitcoin-related comic, that I hope to bring to fruition soon.

CryptoJohn,

I got into cryptocurrencies about six months ago, and it feels like about a decade.  I've learned a ton since then.

When I first heard about Bitcoin, I shrugged it off.  At the time, I had zero clue about what I was ignoring.  I had the same puzzled look as most people when they hear about cryptocurrencies for the first time... At that time, I could have bought BTC for less than a dollar per coin.  I didn't understand mining, and had zero time to put into learning about any of it.

Then, an acquaintance told me about a Litecoin rig that her son had setup for her.  I suddenly found that I had to find some time for looking into this.

I started out with 1 Antminer U2+ and a USB hub.  Within a month, I had 6 Antminer U2+ sticks plugged into that hub.  Then, a couple months later, purchased a Rockminer.  The Rockminer, still in use, made it possible to get way more coins than I was able to with the Antminers.  After a while, I started trading on exchanges.  In about the last 2-3 months, I started mining Scrypt coins as well as Sha-256 ones.

This time last year, I couldn't compile a wallet.  I have learned to compile wallets, setup remote connections, make changes to conf files as needed, trade coins, etcetera.  To anyone well-versed in crypto, this may seem pretty rudimentary; However, to me, it was a set of milestones.  Maybe someday I'll get around to signing my own genesis block... *As if there aren't too many coins to choose from in the first place.*

When I originally got into mining, I was mining Betacoins. Just Betacoins... Now, I have somewhere over 20 wallets for various coins.  Some are never going to be worth any money, some might end up being more profitable.  Money wasn't and isn't the motivating factor though.  I feel that my biggest interest was to be able to fully comprehend what everyone that mentioned "coins" was talking about.  I had to figure out what this was about.

What a difference that a year can make.

After the countless hours of reading, plucking away at a keyboard, and picking my brain... I think that I have figured out many things.  I have figured out why people mine coins.  It's not money..

It's that feeling you get...

The feeling when you setup your first bit of hardware.. When you enter a pool for the first time.. When you solo mine a block.. When you make your first trade on an exchange.. When you compile a wallet, and it actually works..  When you get to tell others about your mining "rig", like someone might talk about their car (right down to how many hashes you get per watt..).. When you find out how big this little planet can grow to actually be.. When you realize that no matter how far you have come, that you are only at the beginning.

Regardless of where the original developers for Silkcoin went, I know where the coin itself is heading... Over the mountainous dunes, and onward to the oasis.  The community carries the coin, and not the other way around.

From one camel to another, "March on!"

Sincerely,
MikeDoubleD

It's nice to see a wallet come along that doesn't look like a blank piece of paper with a number attached. It is fairly obvious to me, from the moment I finally got it to launch on my computer, that alot of effort was put into making it look great.  It took me quite a few tries to get it compiled properly, but once it opened for the first time... I was impressed. An interface that is easy on the eyes, yet not bland and solely utilitarian. The gui work on it alone sets it apart from the many copy+paste wallets that many coins implement.

I traded a couple hundred of another coin and now have over 150 Silkcoins in this shiny new wallet.  I look forward to getting more added soon, as this coin seems to have some real potential in the various markets.  I wish I could have had the hardware to mine this when it was still POW minable.  I got to the party a little late for that though.. Fortunately, I can trade out a bunch of coins that I have less belief in succeeding for this one.

I am about to read the history of this coin, which I am sure will be fairly fascinating.  It's nice to see a community that at least now, seems more interested in an actual value beyond some pump-n-dump.

To all the people who brought this coin to my attention, I am glad that you did.

Hey Mike,

Welcome to Silk.

You've actually shown up at the right time. In the beginning silk was going to change the world then I think the dev took off or something like that(it's been a while). I never bought any silk for as cheap as they are now and TBH paid 10x-20x the current price for some right before the coin was about to moon.
I've held all of them since the dump that put us below 500sats because the coin has always had potential and someone smart would come along and pick up the ball.

as stated in my previous post its been at least a month probably two since i checked this thread so it's nice to see activity and progress.

I will throw you a few Silk once I update the wallet.

Would some one take time out and explain me, what new development is coming on Silkcoins path? I see few people commenting, but nothing pinpoint what development.

just popped in to see what progress is being made, nice work.

I was one of the cheerleaders for silk when it was supposed to pop then fizzled and got caught holding a bag so I so much appreciate the work the dev is doing.

When Silk first hit it was an innovative idea and had a great community behind it...looking forward to the future!

few suggestions:
1) put the current version of wallet in OP so when guys like me drop by they can check their old wallet version & know if they are current without having to download and install another wallet Roll Eyes
2) stop the "we dont need exchanges" rhetoric. Thats how the masses get their coins initially and also how joe public can see the current volume without downloading a wallet for something he doesnt own yet, so yes you do need them. Cry
3) keep kicking ass and moving forward  Cool

Hey guys, I need some beta testers for the Silk Pool. It's taken a while but we have a 20 coin profit switch pool going.

We need some more SHA256, Scrypt and X11 to do final testing on the pool. I have my hashrate pointed, and will be adding constantly. But i need some people to test importing the private key into your silk wallet. Mining is done from an advanced nomp type system. Old nomp you mine with your wallet address, this pool uses a secure public hash to mine. Also to track payments to your wallet.
I've been solo mining during testing but I want to turn it up.
Payout's are working but i'm getting to the stress test point of things.

All beta testing is mined at a 0% fee.

Average has been about 1,000 silk/Scrypt Mhs. X11 I have no average because I need more mhs. SHA256 was tested early on with BTC payouts but haven't found any sha256 blocks with silk payout.

Anyhow hit me up if your interested. Might be the last time we can get coins this cheap. Price's been going up just feeding my soloming, muhaha.

Bitcoinasourus I Have 800 gh/s sha 256 and 10 mh/s X11 to point in the pool
