Any of the coins that we earn via this test do we keep those or is this just a test? Reason for the question is i don't want to move all my coins from cold storage when i could just move a few for this test.

Remember this is a test: not a live code release.

Coins on a "test net" are effectively using a seperate blockchain so aren't "real" solarcoins (not on the actual blockchain ledger).

If you run the app on the regular network it shouldn't support staking as the "algo" for staking blocks won't be accepted by the current solarcoin blockchain miners using a POW algo. The blockchain will reject staked coins (POST) vs. POW.

After testing is complete what will happen, is the new wallet will be released. This wallet will support the current POW algorithm and at a pre-determined block in the near future, the bulk of wallets in consensus will "agree" to use the new Algo, namely POST.

please correct me if this appears incorrect.

POST Beta now uploaded:

From the Developer:

SolarCoin 2.0 beta is uploaded to the dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1bnyatbp2301awq/SolarCoin-2.0b-setup.exe?dl=0  please PM me for file access.

As a preliminary install note, either install the wallet on a PC that is not currently running SolarCoin 1.5, or backup your \User\{name}\AppData\Roaming\SolarCoin folder and then delete the contents before installing.

To test PoST, we will have to be on testnet.  Because of the way the block structure changed, there is no way to test PoW and PoST at the same time.  On mainnet, PoST will not kick in until after the last PoW block.

We’ll have to come up with a future block number to make the switch from PoW to PoST.  It will require a fork of the blockchain – but should be painless.

Please note a more formal set of tests will be forth coming but here is a "bug tracker form" https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XwysiXK9sflUNFZIpNT18zc6nIOdivSpa1uYlUlSVpY/edit?usp=sharing

I've understood it right? I get 1 SLR for 1 MWH? And on top 15%?

I dont understand this sign "§"  Grin

Thanks for fast answer

A claimant receives §1 SLR/1 MWh. the "§" is the currency symbol for solarcoin.  The claimant may assign a 10% of the first years claim to a referrer who helped facilitate the claim if they wish.

Note to self: it's not you doing it, it's us.
I am looking for a good tutorial on how to recover / send coins from a paper wallet. We want to customize it for solarcoin.

Does anyone have a link suggestion.  It is obviously clunky without a QR code reader.

Nick

Here it is (the first part before the QR reader option):

https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=7072.0

One important/useful thing to mention in the solarcoin customized version: on a newly installed wallet, one does NOT need to wait for the blockchain to syncrhonize to issue the importprivkey command in the console window. Actually, if the blockchain has already been downloaded, the importprivkey command takes a lot of time to scan the complete blockchain database and find any transactions linked to that address; while doing that, the wallet software "hangs" as non-responsive (something for the developers to look at for the new wallet - may be just a small info window like "scanning database, please wait"). On the other hand, if this is a newly installed wallet, one can issue the importprivkey console command right after the wallet opens and starts synchronizing the blockcahin, in which case the database to scan is still very small and the command does not take any extra time.

Excuse my ignorance but what does POST stand for. I know POS was proof of stake. Also when we do move over what will we have to do with our old wallets? How will we get our coins to the new wallet?

here is a rough outline explaining it. This will be posted to Solarcoin.org https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MXOtUcl8SGKUdhIHZjnU9MEiTlAA0LTqdjv-qidvd9Q/edit?usp=sharing

So it is Proof of Stake over Time if I'm reading this correctly.  And you will have a 2% inflation rate as incentive for people to hold their coins to support the network.  Is this correct?

correct. The effective inflation rate will decline as more grants are given increasing the circulating base. Transaction costs will be burned.

POST (proof of stake time) update.

The new wallet is coming “soon” and we need some community members to help us run a testnet instance in the next week or so.

Goal: Run a test-net (test solarcoin network) to insure that syncing with blockchain etc. works.

Basically it involves running the wallet with the -testnet parameter and a new config file with the nodes that are testing in it.

There’s no need to wipe the data folder, as testnet will create its own data directory.

For those interested shoot me a PM subject:  POST Testnet.

good news! POST Beta for test release is right around the corner. Our lead developer has compiled and generated the first genesis block and Merkle tree with the full feature set. So next steps are ironing out a few more details then Beta Test release to the community.

I hope lots of people are interested in kicking the tires and helping out with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regression_testing  Smiley

I hope Solar Coin doesn't miss a great opportunity to rework the coin within POST. I think the Claimers will want more out of a coin than a few cents per month. I don't see why a Claimer would go through the trouble to Claim if the coin is only worth 2 cents. They could only hold their coin and wait for the price to go up right? If they sell for 2 cents they could potentially lose big if the coin ever goes to 1MWH in price. So they are forced to hold and wait for the market to shift, and subsequent selling makes the price go down and force them to wait longer.

Why not hold and make the market shift. I have cracked the conundrum for Solar Coin Claiming and simultaneously created the 1MWH price that is stated.

I sent another PM to Solaris33... Is Solaris33 a part of the Dev team or should I send information to you also nickgogerty.
