incoming 0.99 smc about 1 minute ago Smiley

it must be cryptsy delaying then?

That was me Grin I guess yeah but nothing uncommon since Cryptsy always takes a while.

I figure it is because I deleted the old smc wallet, and deleted the smc address I normally use with cryptsy,
so I reason cryptsy delays when there is changes like that. If I had been using the same old smc address I always used then likely it would have gone through quickly.

By the way, do you know if the old smc wallet will still send/recieve smartcoins or not?

I was trying to receive some coins, but it has been 45 minutes, and no indications of any incoming coins yet...

I notice this version of the smartcoin wallet doesn't have the wallet.dat file in the unzipped desktop folder,

but I did find the wallet.dat in AppData>Roaming>Smartcoin folder.

Is there something I am supposed to do, before being able to receive coins?

The wallet.dat file is generated on start up if there isn't one already in the data folder. It changes in terms of the data it holds, such as when balances change, but the format stays the same, so it should not be affected by updates. This is the actual wallet contents, it is not something that should be in a zip file.

I'm not sure why it's taking so long for the transfer, sometimes Cryptsy just takes a while for initiating and clearing payments on the server side, I suppose. The blockchain appears to be up to date.

I only have a wallet.dat in the AppData/Roaming/Smartcoin folder, but not in the folder on the desktop.

If someone wants to help, then send me 1 smartcoin or something like that, I want to see if I receive it or not. you can let me know if you are sending me 1 smartcoin.

Thank you

This is one of the hardest things for newcomers who are not programmers, is when there is forks or updates
and trying to get the new updated wallet functioning without losing coins. (for example, I am thinking of trying to get newcomers to invest into smartcoins, but they are non-programmers, and I don't want them getting p'd off at me if they cannot figure out how to update or end up with 0 coins after investing hundreds or thousands of dollars. We need to try and take care of the investors in smc, it is good pr work)
It is daunting to non-programmers to try and do this, and there is worry about losing coins and money invested. And sometimes questions about this are met with ridicule in the crypoworld, and that is no help at all.
I think forks and updating the wallet deserves some posts or webpages devoted to trying to explain. Maybe if anyone is interested, you can write some info about this, and put it on a webpage, or I can post it for you at internetcoin.wordpress.com or on a webpage somewhere on the net.

You make some good points there. Updates should be seamless, and I also have some ideas about addressing the blockchain size issue (i.e., having to wait to sync, especially when first downloading the wallet).

As for now, replacing the .exe file found in the .zip is the only thing that needs to be done. If this is done after the fork block and there is an issue, the next thing would be to launch it with the -rescan option (yeah, I guess that's also not so obvious - but if you make shortcut, right click -> properties and editing the Target field to add " -rescan" at the end would do it). Finally, deleting all the files in the data folder except wallet.dat and restarting to redownload the blockchain is the last thing that is typically done if it still doesn't work. Wallet.dat should never need to be deleted, and it should be backed up if there are any coins. As long as the wallet.dat file is somewhere, there shouldn't be any issues with losing coins.

I need info about how to update the smartcoin wallet.

There are a couple of different options I am considering.

I have no coins in my wallet,

so I am thinking I can delete all the smartcoin files,

including all the smartcoin files in AppData/Roaming smartcoin folder,

and I think that will completely remove the old smartcoin wallet from my computer?

Then I can install the new smartcoin wallet, and there shouldn't be any conflicts with the old wallet then?

Thank you

Here is a small smartcoin coin might be useful for profile or elsewhere:

Here is the link to that small smartcoin coin picture:

Wondering if smartcoin can use a smartcoin forum?

I think a big part of the seo problems, is because there is quite a few sites out there with links to the old smartcoin thread, so what I think is that we need to try and contact the web-designers from those sites and ask them to please update their smartcoin information.

Need a mac update link, if there is one.

Need a list of websites or merchants who accept smartcoin for payment for products or services.

I accept smartcoins as payment at internetcoin.wordpress.com  ( for advertising picture, or for paid posts)

I post for free for smartcoin, I can do the writing myself, or, for example, if psionin wants to write something about the recent fork, then I can post it for psionin at internetcoin.wordpress.com and give attribution to psionin as the author. Or any other writing/story that psionin wants to release to the public.

I did some searching and got started on a list of websites with incorrect smartcoin information(and some other stuff):
Below is a list, and I think that after the info is updated on any of these sites, then I or someone else can use a strikethrough to cross off those sites from the list, until we get them all or as many as we can anyways:

Here is the list:

INCORRECT INFORMATION ON THEIR SMARTCOIN PAGE

coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency/coins/smartcoin

cryptomining-blog.com/1123-smartcoin-smc-scrypt-based-cryptocoin/

artspirit.com/coins/SMC

altcoincalendar.info/coins/8-SMC

oqtr.com/2014/02/smc-smartcoin.html

cryptocoinrank.com/Smartcoin

cryptocointalk.com  the smartcoin forum thread needs updating. Jimmy said psionin can contact him
to change that.

cryptocoincharts.info/coins/show/smc

vardiff.com/coin/smartcoin/

smc.cryptoapi.net

altcoindb.com/coins/smart-coin/

cryptodatabase.net/coins-s

getmecrypto.com

coinbrief.net

gryfen coin website
big write up post about smartcoin march 2014, info needs updating though
gry.io/2014/03/24/smartcoin/

HAS SMARTCOIN PAGE, BUT THE PAGE IS BLANK

whatmine.com/coin/54/Smartcoin-SMC-Scrypt-Profitability

dc-charts.com/smartcoin/

coinbrief.net/c/smc/dashboard/

myip.ms/view/market_coins/158/SMC_BTC.html

USING OLD SMARTCOIN PICTURE

pcmarkham.com

USED TO HAVE A SMARTCOIN PAGE, BUT NOT NOW:

crypto-prices.com/SMC

There are more sites than what is in the list above, but for now, that gives me or anyone else some help to know what sites to contact about updating their smartcoin info.
If you see any of these sites is updated, please let me/us know so I/we can strike-through their website name on the list or delete it from the list. Or, if you know of other websites that have incorrect smartcoin info on their site, then please let me/us know, so that we can put them on the list.

Long post.

Thank you

Hey guys, I ran the new wallet in the debugger and it is correctly using DarkGravityWave for difficulty adjustment after block 385,000. This algorithm should be significantly better at responding to sudden increases and decreases in hash power, thereby reducing the likelihood of being stuck due to high difficulty, and improving overall sync performance.

This is the 4th successful algorithmic tuning fork for SmartCoin, and SmartCoin has been around for over 13 months now.

It is! Smiley Happy it worked out that well. Great job psio!

I haven't downloaded the new release yet, but the old smartcoin wallet is still counting blocks.
But you should

I can make a German thread later..

I was hoping for more info about that fork, I don't really know what that is about, so I was waiting for psionin to make a public statement about it, now that it is past the 385,000 block when the fork was supposed to happen.

I have already negotiated to have translations and posting in the German altcoin section,
by a German man who speaks english and German, but am just waiting for some feedback
in regards to what smartcoin will post there, before I give him the go-ahead.

This is also the first of many such posts, that I was planning to work on, so I was hoping to
try and make sure we get it right the first time, kind of thing.

Anyone might use google translate, but that is imperfect and the Germans will likely spot it and delete the thread. I don't want to tick them off, so I think it is better to have persons who know the language to do the translation and post it for smartcoin, and also helps to get involved and be sociable, they advertise what they want to advertise and smartcoin gains some exposure too.

Do you know how to read/write German, sosruko?
If so, then that can be a backup plan if needed, but I think I have someone to do that already for smartcoin.

Feedback needed about what to post in the foreign language forums for smartcoin! Should I/we just use psionin's original post? I was thinking that will be ok, with some small modifications though.
What do you think?

Smart Translations is the way.
Why not German?
Spanish, Russian, Chinese, French, and more to come.

Seriously.  Online translation services.  BOOM!  Pay by digital currency.  BOOM!

"Who did you use?"
"Oh, some online service called SMART translations"

Another good idea from BitcoinNational.

I like that idea. Who is going to do this for smartcoin though?

Any volunteers to form a new Smartcoin division named SMART-TRANSLATIONS-SERVICE or something like that, or Smartcoin Translations Services?

I think it needs someone who knows many languages to do that.

I think we would need someone who knows how to read/write multiple languages,
who also wants to be part of smartcoin and use the name: Smartcoin Translations Services or Smart Translations Services.

Something like that, just throwing ideas out there Smiley
