April 27, 2020 update:

Bryce and AltMarket have been featured in part of an article in today's New York Times

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/27/technology/startups-sba-loans-backlash.html

http://acgimg.s3.amazonaws.com/Bryce-AltMarket-New-York-Times-2020-04-27.jpg

You'll note that not only does the NY Times vet the legitimacy of people they interview, but AltMarket was able to get approved for a loan through the SBA which is only available to legal, tax-paying businesses. Nice nod to ODBcoin, too.

In the meantime, the new Ethereum-derived/EVM-based Tao network is up and running and is in the process of final tests before it will be possible to swap your coins over to the new network.

Coming shortly after will be mobile wallets; more to come after that. Expect a series of further announcements.  Smiley

Did Bryce Weiner pay back his covid loan yet?

worth running a wallet to save some of the supply? or should I just leave my coins on qtrade and let em die?

I would definitely recommend withdrawing your coins from qTrade to MetaMask or similar wallet.

The project stalled out due to lack of funds after the pandemic situation, while there's obviously no guarantees in life, there is something in the works that should bring in the needed funds to move ahead.

Only details I can give you at the moment is that it relates to this thread:

https://twitter.com/BryceWeiner/status/1461951143857176579

To use MetaMask you'll need to add a custom network. Use these settings:

RPC:
https://taorpc.mining.center

Chain ID:
558

You can also stake your coins by either setting up a masternode (100K coins required) or pledge them as delegates to an existing masternode using

http://taoshifu.mining.center:9000/

Hope that helps!

You're asking if a failed scam has any potential of a revival. Pretty obvious the answer is "no, it does not."

You're better off mining Bitconnect.

Why trade against wash trading bots and high frequency market manipulation when you can trade against actual people?

Trade with friends.

Trade on AltMarket.

Well whoever ran the bots seem to keep an eye on this thread anyway, since they seem to have been shut down pretty close to my previous post.

I'm sure that's nothing to worry about.

And anyway, I do think it's much healthier to have an exchange where absolutely nothing happens at all than one where there is constant fraud.

Edit: Lol I spoke too soon. Bots are back on the menu, baby!

Imagine being so feverishly paranoid that you freak out over someone using the API for some low volume trades

Quick heads up: You forgot to clean out the extremely obvious bot activity. It would be _slightly_ more believable if it hadn't been going on since at least April in the trading history, while the exchange has been down for "an audit, a few days" since over half a year.

I'm sure that it's, as usual, all on the up-and-up though, and that any one of the three people liking Bryce's tweet will surely buy in so you can get out.

Who are you talking to? Me? It seems like it because you refer to Bryce in your last sentence, and I'm the only person who posts updates here. Yet I have nothing to do with the operation of the exchange, so I don't know why you think I'd be able to "clean up" anything.  Huh

And as for your typical psychological projection, I'm not trying to "get out" of anything. Yes, I'll sell a percentage of my XTO once the price gets to a high enough level, but only a minority percentage. After that the plan is to trickle some of my monthly income from it to pay bills, etc.

Most of my funds are tied up in a smart contract earning me more coins and I can't get them back for 75 days after canceling my masternode even if I wanted to. Which I have no plans to do.

So! Updates for June 14th, 2021  Smiley

Let's see. After a long wait, AltMarket should finally be returning in the next 24 hours. The AltMarket company has restructured and Kamal Hubbard (http://www.kamalrhubbard.com/) is the CEO; Bryce is now the CTO.

Kamal has recently published a book called DeFi for the Diaspora:
https://www.lulu.com/en/us/shop/kamal-hubbard/defi-for-the-diaspora/paperback/product-g48vrp.html

The two of them recently discussed Tao and more in this livestream:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5NRV2EbSOk

We should also see Shifu, the Tao governance app, come out of beta in the near future. Once it and AM are available, there will be an announcement about the Tao Board of Governors' first election. This has been waiting until AM and non-beta Shifu were both available so people who have their funds on AM could withdraw it and vote for the masternode operators who will become the first members of the governance board.

The other big news is that Tao will be added to BigOne exchange, which is a top 25 exchange on CoinMarketCap, and a popular exchange in China. This opens up a big new market for Tao! It also should get XTO back on CMC after it was misleadingly delisted some time ago.

BigOne will be hosting a $10,000 contest for people depositing and/or trading Tao, details are forthcoming. They will be doing additional PR for Tao, I think primarily focusing on the new-to-Tao China market, including AMAs.

BigOne will also be adding a Tao staking pool, and futures trading will be added once volume kicks in.

Tao is of course also still available on qTrade https://qtrade.io/market/XTO_BTC - should be some good arb opportunities coming up with three markets.

More cool stuff coming down the pike.   Cool

i have XTO from the C-cex days. why cant I take my BTC out of Alt market?  Is this a scam?

also what happened to your slack?  strange...

Slack is back. A couple of the guys and I saw it disappear and were talking about it via Twitter. I let Bryce know and he recovered it.
AM is wildly overdue but will be back as soon as possible. I'll paste in the relevant info from Bryce via slack from earlier:
Quote
had an admin get haxed
not sure who because slack doesn’t believe in security accounting, but the attacker disabled their account as the final maneuver which removed their admin status so problem solved
it was basically just vandalism and the loss of public channels

since folks are paying attention staking is online
shifu-beta.tao.network
AltMarket is still under rewrite and code audit and I’m more crazy about it than anyone in this chat which is why I don’t talk about it
lol
also check out our new stats page stats.tao.network
and i’m in the middle of writing a new explorer.

folks making money in tao again so the software mill is a-crankin
we all web3 and defi af
validator ROI is 15.96%  which is 2x DeFi returns
4x the old tao

I'd been meaning to update the thread for the last week. The voting/validator app was supposed to come online in January, but oh noes it was a few hours late coming online February first. As mentioned above, you can find it at shifu-beta.tao.network
and if you have Tao in your MetaMask wallet you can now activate a validator/masternode if you have a node set up already (100K Tao required) or you can vote one there.
The Shifu site gives you info on the validators including ROI for both the operator and for voters. Looks and works great. Very easy to vote or fund your own masternode once you have MetaMask set up.

Meanwhile, Bryce has also given a thorough overhaul of the stats site here stats.tao.network which also looks good but it's a work in progress so the map doesn't show the location of nodes yet. I think he's also planning to update it so that you can click a validator on the stats site and go to its voting page over on Shifu. Here's the repo if you want a look or to set up your own:
https://github.com/Tao-Network/tao-stats

And another update is we've been dissatisfied with the current very basic explorer, so Bryce is working on a new open source explorer inspired by Etherscan.io and that's in progress.

He's also working on wrapping Tao so it can be listed on Uniswap, but also to create a bridge so people can move tokens and projects freely out of Etherem and onto Tao, Expanse, Ubiq, or other Ethereum-based networks so people can escape the crazy ETH gas fees.

It's been a long road, but a lot of ground has been covered now. Looking forward to what's next.

Jan 9, 20201 update:
Shifu, the governance/masternode voting app is coming along and will be available later this month. In the mean time, a couple of the community members have activated their master nodes via Remix instead of waiting for Shifu and we're now earning rewards.

I'm in the middle of helping one guy set his first one up, and looks like I'll be helping a couple of others in a day or two. There are always dead weights in any alt community that only seem to complain and drag everybody down. It's a relief when they're gone and forgotten. I enjoy helping out the people who want to chip in though.

Anyway, looking forward to altseason now that all the pieces are just about in place. Timing's good once we clear the "depression" stage of the altcoin market cycle. So much salt right now.  Wink

Dead weight like exchange.alt.market? 'Cause that seems to have noped out permanently. Guess the 'audit' didn't work out too well.

Oh, and I just did a small check back, because it's always so funny to see just how slow this project moves compared to what's claimed: Did you know that the voting dApp ("Shifu") was originally considered to be part of the "minimum viability" step, which was promised for April of last year? It's true! I would not be so quick to trust it coming out "later this month", despite what anyone says. Especially someone who's able to look at the absolute sea of broken promises and years of basically no activity and decry any sceptics as "dead weight".

Edit: Also, I saw that Bryce is keeping up his lie about "intentionally" capping the crowdsale at $100k, which, of course, is a blatant lie which anyone with a modicum of archive diving skills easily can find out. I guess he's hoping no one will actually check.

Oh look, another boring post from one of the sockpuppet troll accounts. Funny how they always cluster together like they're coordinated or something. Maybe it's a coincidence. Whoever you are, you sure let Bryce and Tao occupy a lot of your headspace.

No, "dead weight" like people who constantly ask wen moon but don't do anything to actually help it along.

Anyway, the search on this site sucks so I can't find any mention of Shifu before this page. I took a glance back but didn't find much except a bunch of trolling from the account I'm replying to and the rest of you, however few are actually behind all the accounts. I guess I'll take your word on it.

I will give you no argument that Bryce is slow af but you're very silly for trying to claim there's been "basically no activity." I'm not going to belabor the point because this thread is 50% me posting updates and 50% a handful of troll accounts making asses of yourselves. For years.

But it's not like there's literally multiple links to examples of activity in my most recent posts.

So to post something more interesting than replying to time wasters, Bryce has been sharing screen shots of the ongoing development of the Shifu voting app, and there's been active discussion in the Tao2-Technical-Chat channel in Slack.

Anyone interested in current info about what's actually going on should join the channel, here's the signup link if you don't have it. No trolls https://taonetwork.typeform.com/to/hnuAj0

Here's one of the recent screen shots showing preliminary ROI info for the growing number of masternodes we've been setting up. It's a pretty big file so I'll just link to it to save bandwidth:
http://acgimg.s3.amazonaws.com/Tao-shifu-preview-2021-01-13.jpg

It's compiled scraping data using Ming, which is one of those pesky examples of activity that I've been assured don't exist or whatever.

Actually, I'm sure I'm imagining that I've been able to use the new network without issues; that I had my funds migrated over without problems as have many other people; that I've tested the migration web app others who haven't switched over yet can use; that I've installed the software on more than one server for myself and for others and it's run fine; that I've been able to fund a masternode using smart contracts and help others fund masternodes and earn rewards without issue; that I can see the active nodes when I look at the "nonexistent" scan.tao.network; I'm also just hallucinating the github commits on multiple repos as recent as about an hour ago!

And that's just the last few months of what I've apparently imagined.

Well, none of that happened or anything else. Guess I'll go and set up this masternode now for someone that probably is just my imagination!  Cheesy

*Brute force will solve any Bitcoin problem*
What are the diamond club benefits these days? Ever get those guitar picks or t-shirt?  I'm considering inviting myself into the club at 5 satoshi. that will be down only about 99.62% from where I exited.... A reasonable short!  Cheesy

I heard that leadership in this project is now highly democratized and super open to hearing new ideas and outside perspectives  Grin  Gonna see about getting back on the Slack channel today; you guys are gonna love having me back in the inner circle!  Cool
