I think that making an intro video interviewing people is going to be a bit boring and you are going to be losing peoples interest.
Most people have an attention span of 20-30 seconds.

The best method of marketing right now is making it dead-simple. Bright colors, simple graphics, etc.

Just like the animated what is bitcoin video; it needs to be short, concise and entertaining.
Time for interviews and real use-cases can come later. In my opinion it would be foolish to lay the "counterparty is the way of the future, now listen to these guys tell you why" deal on the unwashed masses just yet.

Start simple, friendly animated and colorful graphics, pleasant background music, some voice-over with bullet/point form of the features and potential uses of the protocol.

Answer these questions; What, Who, Where, When, Why:
  • What: a method of creating complex transactions and financial derivatives among other things as well as storing and sending wealth.
  • Who: Originally made by a team of developers, CP is open-source and developed by the community.
  • Where: Counterparty can be run from any computer connected to the internet. No need for banks, brokers and exchanges.
  • When: Counterparty is two months old, still in its infancy, with a very bright future ahead.
  • Why: The current de-facto method of transfering and storing wealth online (bitcoin) is great, but is limited in scope. Where bitcoin aims to replace corrupt and malicious financial systems, counterparty aims to replace many corrupt pillars of the financial world entirely in a safe and secure manner.

In fact, if you can directly emulate the animated what is bitcoin video it would be most successful.

Thanks to the help I got here I am now running the counterparty client on an old Atom system running Ubuntu 12.04. Took me almost 3 days to get counterparty in sync with the bitcoin network Smiley

So I tried the faucet a week ago, sending me 0.2 XCP. Today I could finally see for myself if it arrived and it did. So, as a further test I tried to transfer 0.2 XCP to an exchange XCP wallet. But, it didn't work? It got the following message:
'Insufficient bitcoins at address xxx. (Need 0.0003715 BTC.)'
Looking at blockscan.com the faucet sent me 0.0001086 BTC, so the message seems correct.

But now my question is: is 0.2 XCP now different from 0.2 XCP a week ago? I would expect 0.2 XCP to *stay* 0.2 XCP but this message suspects me to believe otherwise  Huh

Multi-sig transactions require that there be between .0001 and .0004 BTC at an address, depending on the kind of transaction you would like make.

If you do want to do a use case on Bitcoin Tangible Trust, I think it would make sense to contact them for either a video interview (Skype, perhaps) or an email exchange interview. (Interviews provide great material, since, if you spend some time and forethought crafting great questions, you get the interviewee to provide compelling content and make your arguments for you.)

They recently contacted Counterparty via this thread and asked for our feedback on their services. They must have been in touch with the devs prior to this in order to implement XCP, don't you think? The point is, they seem very interested in having a productive dialogue with CP in order to develop their services and their business in general. It might benefit both CP and BTT to create a video advertisement together, parts of which we could each use. Like CP, they are young and inventive, and this is one of the demographics that CP can appeal to.

Edit: I would be happy to help develop these questions, and think through how this interview might work. I don't have programming expertise, so I am approaching this as an investor in both cryptocurrencies and precious metals.

I think we should also have a simple video which conveys the key features of XCP to the laymen.

Similar to what is on the homepage of Ripple.com or the classic What is Bitcoin video.

We don't even have an acceptable logo yet though right ?

Well whatever we can do to help you with your video - please let us know,

Branding is important as nakaone pointed out, and that does need to be ironed out

I'll Get Started Storyboarding ASAP.
Is there any bounty raised yet ? Maybe I'll make a
Teaser to get the bounty started eh?

No bounty raised yet, idea has only been introduced today

Tirapon and myself will put in 100 xcp each

the only coin, including bitcoin, which has a strong branding is doge: this indeed is partly given by their meme, which is nothing like a new form of culture. i do not think that it is their swarms or their massive marketing (nxt etc. are trying that too and are more or less failing). it is the idea that they exactly know what doge is and what it is useful for.

we have brilliant developers and a very strong/nameful auditing, additional this text http://www.ofnumbers.com/2014/03/04/chapter-3-next-generation-platforms/ quotes a well known professor in stanford to xcp. and by the technical nature of this product it probably makes sense to brand it as something elitist/superior (just my suggestion).

anyway bountiful told that he is a professional regarding branding, he is widely active here and on counterparty.co - maybe he could talk to the main developers about their idea of xcp in mid/long term and than suggest an idea how to brand xcp/counterparty.

its not a competition, but video makers should  be rewarded for their time (as you pointed out), and some  might need to be paid upront as appose to a 'bounty' style' , (animation pros)
it depends in which direction we are taking this
the term bounty i guess sounds a bit competitive, perhaps another term should be used

I think calling it a bounty takes away the community aspect of it. People should definitely be rewarded for their work, but making it a competition seems like the wrong way of going about it. We should be working together.

in my opinion before doing "marketing" a kind of branding of xcp/counterparty is neccessary - bountiful had a very good approach about what xcp/counterparty is in the forum:

anyway i do not want to discourage making a video and will likely donate for it, but we need to make sure what we are promoting

The dogecoin animation gave me a great laugh. I think those animated videos may be outside the scope of what I do. But I do have some animated type editors so I will see if I can make something and show you guys and see what you think.

I would start with words that best describe the Counterparty community, the developer team, and the mission of the code and the project. For example, here are my words that come to mind when I think about the community:
Fast
Trustless
Burn
Proof
Peer to Peer
Decentralized
OpenSourced
CommunityDriven
Innovative
Github
Forums
Discussion
Build
Bet
Assets
Issuance

Hi halfcab,
I checked out your videos, awesome stuff,
Great to hear you want to do a video , an interview video sounds great,
when are  you planning on getting started?

i believe the best way to tackle this marketing campaign is by doing multiple videos,
I feel that we are going to need an animated video aswell as real life video,

these are examples of animated videos i am talking about - is animation videos within your scope ?

Regarding the content of the marketing initiative, I suggest a use case.
Instead of talking in detail about what Counterparty is, or describing somewhat abstractly the kinds of things Counterparty can do, talk specifically about the things that someone is already using Counterparty for. In this vein, we could talk about the new project from Bitcoin Tangible Trust.

Any use case type of explanation for Counterparty's virtues must describe how Counterparty is doing one or more things for the entrepreneur (in my example, BTT):
How does CP solve a problem that BTT had (or that companies like it have)?
How does CP allow BTT to reach more customers/improve customer experience?
How does CP allow BTT to speed up time to market/development time/etc?
Why is CP the best choice for companies like BTT?

In short, instead of talking so much about what CP is (like many informational videos do), talk about what it does for those who might be interested in using it. People will respond to something that solves some problem for them, or allows them to do something interesting and new. And investors will respond to CP when they see how CP can become a genuine partner with lots of entrepreneurs and adventurous thinkers out there.

This is a smart idea, Sparta_cuss.

If we could showcase one asset-backed company, say, BTT, one betting game, say, ?, and one derivatives concept, say, ?.

And then make the point that Counterparty is an incredibly important open source project, with a potential for 100s of companies to be riding on top of it in a few years.

Then this would make for a very compelling story line!

I agree with this absolutely. I do think that also giving a poignant talk though also conveys the vision and gives the spirit of the initiative which is important in effectively establishing a presence, "Hey here we are this is what we do." And the compounding the use cases on top of that vision.

Here's the theoretical, here's the practical, here's the future

This is filmed and edited by Jon grant who is my business partner. We run a decent sized hedge fund in crypto. http://youtu.be/9AxWIzoic6g

I am the one interviewed in the video and there is also another video here of his trip to Panama Panama 2012: http://youtu.be/qaAWM25U6Hs

Nice work.

So what exactly did you have in mind with regards to a video for counterparty?

We've got a Canon 5d mkII tripods lights backdrop etc, I planned on a powerful interview. I'm well spoken and I have the gift of conveying complex ideas to a non savvy audience. I planned on combining that with shots of the Web wallet and desktop wallet and delving into complex topics which explain the depth of the vision of what counterparty makes poasible.

I do ask that I can consult with an expert over the phone to gather some more information about some of the more complicated features.
