I have created a thread to discuss assets within Counterparty: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/counterparty-assets-thread-424439. In my opinion, asset creation is one of the broadest features of Counterparty, and as a result a complete understanding of its functionality (and the best way to take advantage of it) is quite difficult to achieve, and a community effort is the best way to do so. A thread dedicated to the discussion of assets will help make the Counterparty protocol more usable, and so I encourage users to direct their questions regarding assets to that thread.

I've read almost the whole thread and 'll try to burn my first coins today.

I intend to give 10% of the burnt BTC to the Devs if i'm successful. Everyone should give at least 1%

Different question: Donations should promote defelopement and dont have any effect on potential ROI?

Imho the development directly influences the product value and the potential ROI. Compare this to how MSC / NXT value soars with each new progress announcement.
All the rest is just a short-term speculation, that will leave many burnt (and not in the Proof-of-Burn way Smiley ).

I think/hope that most simply are not aware of the huge difference between burnt and donated funds.
what conclusion can you draw from this for counterparty?

That we all need to support the devs, if we want the project to succeed / make profit on our investments.

You will need to export your private keys from blockchain and import them to your local bitcoinQT instance running along side with counterparty. And then issue the necessary (send, etc) commands from the counterparty client
...and what I quoted above (the second post on page 1 of this thread) is the most simply way to do this?

Yeah the sooner someone can give a step by step set of instructions on how to go from

1. Bitcoin QT client (stock settings)
2. Blockchain.info wallet with burnt BTC

to

3. sending XCP to Bitcoin addresses

The sooner the devs will get XCP donations. We're not all devs here. I can use the heck out of some command line but I still need step by step instructions to get to that point.

Those instructions should exist. Where are you getting stuck?

For my part I didnt burn any btc for xcp yet. And I am looking for a step to step instruction that is easier thatn the one one page 1 (second post).

I can add this to the front page of blockscan if you think this would help ?

Definitely, if you will clearly show the mind boggling difference between funds burned and funds donated to developers (perhaps via some chart), and emphasize that the value of XCP on market is depending on the success of the project which in turn directly based on amount of work the devs can put into it, this will be a big motivator for all current and future investors.

I think/hope that most simply are not aware of the huge difference between burnt and donated funds.
(Just look at NEX project, which already raised ~7BTC in donations based on possible potential only - without any working product).

I burned BTC via blockchain.info, how can I use my XCP? Is it possible to use Counterpartyd even if I burned by blockchain.info?

You will need to export your private keys from blockchain and import them to your local bitcoinQT instance running along side with counterparty. And then issue the necessary (send, etc) commands from the counterparty client

Cheers
Any detailed infor?

I burned 0.2btc so what happen now?  Huh

You can check your XCP balance from http://blockscan.com/default.aspx and after that you need only wait project go forward.

No need to install a client or something to claim your xcp later?
No, but you need to install counterpartyd to use it. May I know how did you burn your BTC?

Nothing burned yet...

Is there a simplified version / explanation to this?

To invest in XCP and Counterparty, switch Bitcoind/Bitcoin-Qt and counterpartyd over to mainnet simultaneously. Use the command-line switch -testnet=0 with Bitcoind or remove any 'testnet=1' from the Bitcoind configuration file temporarily; then do the same for counterpartyd by both not using the --testnet flag and (again, temporarily) removing 'testnet=1' from counterpartd.conf.

Make sure that Bitcoind and the counterparty server are running, and then run ./counterparty --rpc-password=PASSWORD burn --from=ADDRESS --quantity=QUANTITY, where 'PASSWORD' is the password used to access Bitcoind's RPC interface, 'ADDRESS' is an address in your Bitcoind wallet with sufficient bitcoins, and 'QUANTITY' is the quantity of BTC that you would like to burn.

I'm happy to donate, I just don't understand how to send XCP to an address. :/ .....safely!
Devs, any idea?
Also, it would be great to add the donation address to blockscan.com, so everyone could see how much donated and what the balance is.

Me too. I'd like to donate some XCP sending from my blockchain wallet

I can add this to the front page of blockscan if you think this would help ?

I have 10,250 XCP sitting here, where and how do I donate ??

There is now burned total 1341 BTC that is over $1.1 million. BTC donations is $611. It is 0.05% of all burned BTC. Not possible lets raise that at least to $11k what is 1%, before we can donate XCP. If you have BTC to risk and burn for over 10k XCP you have sure one BTC for donations also? I even dont have, but this donation situation looks so sad, that I sold huge part of my other alts (QRK, MEC,TAG) investments and start and send 1BTC donation. I have enough XCP to pay it back later if this project success and im sure my XCP what i hold have better possibility in long run than my other alts what I just sold.

Lets everyone burn at least 1-5% of invested moneys and im sure that pay back later with XCP value.

I see someone else also donate after my 1btc donation $83 so we have now donate together total 0.13% of burned moneys.  Lets doing BTC donations now and maybe devs have enough money to pay web page developers etc what ever need money to make XCP success!

We are looking for community contributions of testing, bug reports, patches, and companion software (e.g. built around counterpartyd). We are also asking for donations of BTC and XCP to 12J1YFvsWHDCU5HNAWNLNy1Q9nZo8Q4Xgs, which funds will be used to issue bounties for the development of the project.

I don't have anywhere close to that much BTC to burn (or donate). Most generous.

See my earlier post on XCP donation instructions:

Something like this would work:

C:\counterpartyd>python counterpartyd.py send --from 1Fz5idgemYfsszRMmaQNd2Anvm2JytAoU --to 12J1YFvsWHDCU5HNAWNLNy1Q9nZo8Q4Xgs --quantity 1 --asset XCP
Confirm? (y/N) y
"0783dd6b65303b54b72cbc632f17f6c13e9e9550f2b3fb96270d997cf85a6dce"

Obviously, replace my address w/ yours.

Make sure you already unlocked your bitcoin wallet with walletpassphrase, of course.

Look for the 1 XCP tip in the next few blocks.

And you can track it here: http://www.blockscan.com/balance.aspx?q=12J1YFvsWHDCU5HNAWNLNy1Q9nZo8Q4Xgs
