I will need a new power supply to replace one that died on me today. What do you think of this bad boy at $CAD 179.99?

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182320
Rosewill PHOTON Series PHOTON-1200 1200W
Single rail +12v@100A

I know Rosewill is a not glamorous. But the specs are more than ok for a C1.
$CAD 179.99 is the cheapest gold 1200w power supply I can find in Canada.

I always liked the Rosewill Lightning 1300.  The EVGA 1300 equiv is good too.

If its time related then start investigating power related things. The PSU would be the first thing to look at. Try powering only the bad blade pair (as long as they're the ones that power the controller) only and see if they still drop out. Alternatively, you could just swap your PSUs over and see if the problem moves.

Sometimes it happens after five minutes, sometimes it is overnight, sometimes on boot.  I'll give swapping the power supplies a try next...

Swapping the power supplies had no effect.  I guess I'll see what Bitmain has to say (they got back to me pretty quickly and asked for screenshots, etc), which I've just sent them.

Hmmm...I've had this C1 running for a few weeks now and had no problems until last night.  When I look at the status page I get this...
I've emailed support but thought I would post here as well.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hello:
You can configure user and selecting freqency throught web.

What he means to say is try changing the frequency, doing a power cycle and see what that does.

Yep done that...and everything else that anyone has already suggested...including the guys at bitmain. They've been responding to my emails on a daily basis as they give me new things to try, so I will say that they are certainly trying to help me. In the end they gave me an address in the US (I'm in the UK) to send the control board to.  Which means I'm already down a week and it looks like this miner will be down for at least another, although it's more likely to be several, weeks.

As you might have guessed, I'm not a happy bunny.  However, I'm not going to flame Bitmain or be an ass.  This is the second issue I've had with Bitmain in the last month, after almost a year of buying equipment, using hashnest and mining on antpool with nary a problem.  So the end result is that my other C1's are being sold off and I'm going to let my wallet do the talking with future purchases.

Thanks for all the advice...

They have a UK address you can use which will lower the cost drastically.

If the frequency changes, does the voltage also need to be changed?

I found this thread that has everything on overclocking the BM1382 chips.

Can someone recommend a good/better/reliable water pump for the C1??

I keep reading horror stories about those things going all the time, might be a better idea to get a better built pump.

I think I found one on Frozen CPU...

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/22869/ex-pmp-281/Alphacool_AGB-Eheim_600_Station_II_-_12V_15127.html?tl=g30c107s153

It looks solid and I believe Alphacool is one of the good ones.

You see, I'm good with both computers and cars but cooling systems, I always avoided... gives me headaches.

I like XSPC with pump/resevoir combined for ease.  They run about 70 USD and have a much higher rate than the 450 syscooling pump.  Larger resevoir so more liquid needed, but in terms of being able to properly work it runs great.  My pump was defective and after realizing how long a RMA was going to take with sys I just decided to replace it myself.  Sys wanted several videos of my physically moving the parts of the pump even after I'd cleaned it out and sent two (or three?) prior videos.  Mine run a bit warmer than 35 C, but the miner runs smooth and i've had no problems.  The fittings and tubing and radiator work just fine.  I'm not sure if having a higher pump runs liquid through the radiator too fast and thus the higher temps.  I point a fan on the radiator and that seems to help.  I'm at the max of my power capabilities and the last order from bitmain is probably too much, but I'd already made the purchase.

the wires are so thin

I had to cut the wire on the harness because I needed 4 pins molex instead of pci-e. There is just a flimsy copper wire the size of an hair inside of it. But it's working. My kit was in perfect condition. I'm loving this near silent miner.

Your pump leaked.  Did you leave the fill cap open until the water heated up? Also do not overfill the pump because air will compress more easily than water.
We have 3 pin connector,4 pin connector and PCIE connector,if you need 3pin or 4 pin instead of PCIE connector, you could email us or contact with sales man.

I was in the same boat and was looking at other pumps incase this one leaked when it arrived.  It's been working fine so far, but this is the one I had my eye on incase:  http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14568/ex-pmp-171/Swiftech_MCP35X_12v_PWM_Controlled_Water_Pump_-_White.html?tl=g30c107s153 (1,000 L/H) with the optional 100 reservoir tank and heatsink, but it's a pricey alternate.
For the leaked pump, could you please send us emails with pictures?

C1 arrived in a record time. Miner is ok, but the cooling kit is the worst thing i have ever seen. The water pump leaked on the first power up and died after 1 minute work, wiring for the fans is bad soldered and the wires are so thin, tubes for the radiators soften if the miner has temperature over 40C. They should take care about this. Syscool should raise the price for 5-10 usd and sell quality not quantity ! ! ! Next purchase will be only miner. I dont need crap
Could you please take pictures and send us an email?

I lowered my frequency to make the miner stable Smiley

to test if its a power supply, try elimination method where, only run blade 1 (fan facing you, its the 4th blade), so blade 1 only powered up..... observe....then blade 2 and so on...... I'm guessing it could be the PSU not supplying enough power?... I maybe wrong but thats the method I will do to test it.

goodluck!

I have a C1 that I have had for about two weeks.  the first week or so it was fine, but it has started to drop chips after a few hours of running.  the chips that X out are generally on the 2nd two boards and it can be anywhere from 1 or two per board to and the entire board that goes offline.

Even when the chips are not showing X, the hash rate bounces around between about 700 and 1100ghs.

I have one Rosewill capstone PSU (1000W gold) dedicated to running the C1 and cooling pump.

It came with the 10/16 firmware and was set to 250/0725.  I tried updating the software to 11/26 and set the freq/voltage to 250/0760, but it is still very inconsistent.

I have two C1’s, and the other one seems to hash steadily at just over 1000ghs on the 10/16 firmware at the defaults of 250/0725.  The second one also has it's own dedicated Roswiill Capstone 1000w.

Any suggestions, or do I have a defective unit?

Hi you are right, I replaced the PSU with a Coolermaster 1000W vantage80+ Gold $245 AUD and works like a charm.

my friend advised me to power blade 1, so I get the change to trouble shot the Miner....blade 1 is if the fan is facing you its the 4th one to the right hand side. and thats how I managed to tweak mine Smiley

2nd miner up and running as well...... just playing with the frequency to make sure I achieve 50C to 70C temp...

goodluck guys!

guys I need some help...

I have 4x C1 miners, first run is all good, I can login to 192.168.1.99 the moment I change the network settings to my 10.0.10.X network after it reboots it just shutsdown by itself?

My PSU is 850W Enermax 850W platinum 80 plus standard worth $300 AUD, I used the 2x PCI-E coming from the PSU and 2x supplied molex adapter to PCIE.

I did the same process above to a 2nd C1 miner and I had the same experience.

Any tips please?

What I have done so far?
PSU running on its own and not connected to the miner, to make sure the paper clip mod work- done, eliminate the PSU mod issue
PSU to a fresh boot up C1 miner, running smoothly, not shutting down - done

but the moment I give it a static IP address it just shuts down or just coincidence? this happened to miner1 and miner2...

Any hints or tips please? thanks guys!!!

That's not a great PSU, it only just has the wattage AND its 5 rail. Turn DHCP on if you're having issues giving it a static IP in your home range.

tubes for the radiators soften if the miner has temperature over 40C

Thats.... thats just physics...

Physics yeah, for the "quality" of the tubes.

No, that's just how all materials behave when heated. All watercooling tubing is exactly the same material - acrylic. It is ALWAYS going to 'soften' when heated. I'll give you $50 if you can send me acrylic watercooling tubing that doesn't get softer when heated.

I will be using rigid plastic tubing for my next one because wide radius curves suck.

Lastly, is it possible to use a pair of 650W PSU instead of one big one?

Got lots of smaller 650W PSU's made by Corsair and SeaSonic, a high quality 1000W is a C$200 bill I don't really want right now.

Yep, it's possible. Due to lack of power I connect in parallel 2 PSU's. One is XFX 750W and another one is Antec 750W. You can buy on EBay appropriate connector.
Another solution is to do connection by yourself like I did (because still waiting for this fu...ing connector to arrive from Korea).
You should connect green wire from 24pin connector to both PSU's and one of black wire in same manner. I put switch between those  2 wires to start or shut-down PSU's. Than you can use PCIe rails on your C1 from both PSU's. It's work great since day 1 for me.
Sorry for my english, but I hope you got idea.
Best regards.

As long as it's not a big no-no or would void my warranty then it's all I care about.

No need to complicate anything.

Both would be same power, same manufacturer and same series.

Plus by now, I found a good deal on a 1000w 80Plus Platinum PSU under $200 before tax so I might buy trips whilst I can.

On the November 26 firmware, when setting 275MHz, it comes up as 2,275  Huh Roll Eyes yet another rushed firmware by bitmain...how many other typos are in the code  Lips sealed ...can we get a fix for that (or location of the frequency table)?

Passed on to engineers.
