Well at .419 (x2) I can't buy but at .32 I'd take at least six more right now.

I guess if sales slow BITMAIN will do whatever makes the most sense for them.

We should all also remember they have been the best H/W seller by a wide margin.  No pre-order nonsense.  No missed dates...etc.

can't argue with the gear's quality or on time shipping.  Some days the price was really good.    I would have purchased more then 3 on may 19th when the net came to 173 usd.  I only had 3 coupons by the time I swapped some s-2's for s-1's the s-1 price went up beyond the btc rise and the diff rise.

These should be .38  not .419     so I will just let the s-1 coupons I have die  and wait for other gear to buy.

With the summer coming I am better off not running in house s-1's ..  heck I can even hold my coins.  which may be best

I have 27 S1 coupons that are about to expire on the 29th. Send me a PM with your bitmain userid, let me know how many you need, and they are yours for free.

Great, thank you very much. I appreciate fast response.  Smiley

It's kinda bs though...with the rise in the coin price S1's have been increasing in price.  This should not be happening anymore with diff. where it is.  I still haven't seen a single day where I feel I could make my money back with an S2.

+1  - sad but true - coins are ready but still waiting for a decent deal on the S2

yeah if they figured in diff  rise and btc rise the price would be .380  not  .419

this would be an exact match to the best price they had which was  on may 19th   ..

so if you want to say the may 19 price was too low     they could still offer this for .4 pre coupon and do better then they were doing with the may 19th price.

And I have accounted for btc and diff   ..

I want to buy 2 more  and have been holding on to coins  since may 19th .

So far holding the coins is better then buying these.

Maybe, if enough of us complain about the price of the S1 and S2 then bitmain will take a look and decrease the prices Smiley

[edit] actually he did seem to respond dramatically to complaints several weeks ago with the S1 when it went from .9something to .6something iirc...

The best way is to stop buying.  If the price is too high, don't buy.  Guarantee the price will start to come down.

Yeah  I got 3 for 520 usd   or 173 each.

https://blockchain.info/tx/cb0eddf6f2d227e1f8c4bdda507b952e9272d8b417934ce27c6e4e16d980cc18

the 1.167 coins are now worth 665 usd.

If I buy 2 today i spend 2 x .419 = .838 -.100  or .738  but in fiat .738 is  418  or 209 each

so the arguments of math are 173 to 209 or

1.208 the price in fiat    now coins went from 445 to  570  that is  1.281 the price

now  1.208 into 1.281 is

1.06     this means  the price now is 100/106 with the btc price rise adjustment  .. that is good

but diff was 8.85 and is now 10.45

that is  1.18    so to fully be no gain or loss    that 1.06   is wrong it should be 1.18  and match the  diff.

long story short        the price needs to be 190 usd    after coupon

that would be  .330 btc after coupon
or .38 btc before coupon

so the current price of .419 is an extra profit of .0319 for bitmaintech.

over  and above the diff rises and over and above the btc rises.

the sale was done on may  19th .

so I am holding back because they should drop some more.  and I am pretty sure my math is correct.

coins dropped today to 567 usd .

that makes the s-1 look better and the s-2 look worse.

If I buy today my fiat cost is 209 an s-1.

I have 2 coupons left  I may order my last two s-1's today.

So does anyone have some information to share about underclocking?

I had a scary moment today when my main circuit breaker tripped. I'm running a large number of miners including 3 S1's. I underclocked everything I could to prevent it from happening again.

I changed my S1's from 375 to 325. I dropped from 190GHs to 166GHs which is fine by me. This isn't about the extra pennies I'm losing by not overclocking. This is about power efficiency and waste heat generation.

Does anyone have stats comparing watt usage for 375 to 325? Is there even more significant efficiency to gain by going lower?

I run mine underclocked (for efficiency due to electricity costs). I get 150GH/S per ~200w @ 300, rather than 180GH/S for 380w. I essentially went through the same process described in the link pvnamk19 posted above.

So you had to do the pencil mod to get to 200w? I'm not really interested in going to those lengths to undervolt. I'm only wanting to underclock. Sorry, I didn't read the entire thread so maybe my scenario was addressed there.

no pencil mod means 2 watts per hash.  so a 350 clock gets about  180 gh and around 360 watts with a plat psu

a 300 clock gets about 150 gh and around 300 watts

a 275 clock gets about 140 gh and around  280 watts

 but read below:

please get a fucking pencil  lightly  stroke each of the 8 resistors  2 times  do not measure the ohms takes 2 minutes.

set the clock at 300  and see what the results are. about 150 gh and 200 watts is pretty much what happened for me,  it is easy to do this.
below one at stock volts and 393 freq gets me 200gh and 406 watts

and one at undervolts   275 freq gets me 140gh and 201 watts

I am thinking about undervolting, got myself the HB pencil, but the resistor that you supposed to touch is so tiny and there is another object nearby (C10). How you were even able to do it reliably? magnifying glass workstation? i think that you supposed to use the multimeter (ohm meter) as well.

I have 3 running on an evga 1300 supernova  psu  about 420 gh pulling 563 watts  at the k-a-watt plug  that is 1.34 watts a hash.

I can't tell you how easy it is. I have had cataract eye surgery in each eye and I can do it in 5 minutes

I used a number 6 pencil   on one mod and a number 2 pencil on the second mod.

I deliberatively   was sloppy on getting perfect ohm measurements after the mods.

I have an hi-end  meter all resistors read  4.46 or 4.47 k ohm before the mods.

I allowed the resistors to range between 2.4 k ohm and 3.3 k ohm  after the mod .

The key is your ssh.    you may want :

250  freq
275  freq
300  freq

if you fucked the resistors up a lot you get x's on your asic's  just go to a lower freq.

I stroked the resistors in 1 direction away from the one next to it and towards the empty space. I used  a magnify glass on a stand

the photo below is with the glass.

Excellent work, Phillip!

the only restriction is I have to stay under 800 watts. I have to make them run quietly.   they do run pretty quiet .  I think I will order 2 more s-1's today or tomorrow

One of my S1s came with a broken fan, I replaced it with a push/pull pair of Corsair AF120 performance edition fans (30db) and I must say that that miner runs at the best hash rate 205.6 and the lowest temp - by 3-4 degress, and is by far the quietest - over the others. £25 for the pair. Bitmain promised to ship a replacement fan with my next order.

Can you please share a screenshot?

I have never seen +205Ghs S1 working average.

Thanks.

thanks.  If I see them on sale here I will grab some.

I have found that on my over clocking the gear has been pretty loud.

but on my under clocking  I have a corsair vortex and I have the stock fan.  the stock fan runs under 1500 rpm and it is quiet .

but testing new fans is cool with me.

I dont really get the underclocking stuff if I'm honest Phil, I need to max the income from these things before they become useless... Happy to be enlightened however...

Okay  underclocking works in my case  because i can run 4 ants at 140gh = 560gh   and pull 760watts.

they are quiet.   they run in an office space..

I have 2 limits

1)  800 watts  is the max I am allowed to use.

2) they must be quiet

So running 4 units at that office gets me 1) 760 watts 2) quiet

power costs 4 cents a k-watt.  If I ran 2 units at 393 freq   I would get 400gh and 800 watts and really loud.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In my house I run at 393 freq  200gh  hot and loud

Most people will not need to undervolt or underclock  until diff reaches 20-25    diff is at 10.5.

If you're looking for inexpensive high quality power supplies for your S1 check out this thread.  You can get your power supply costs down to $35 or less per S1.

Some of us have run into heat issues or power availability wall or prefer quiet miners.

stock ants would give 2.1th using 4200w of power and a lot of power supplies - 11.6 ants
undervolted has a nice balance at 2.1th and 3000w  using only three enermax power supplies - 14 ants

you can also safely run 6 ants - 900gh off 1 - 125v outlet

Undeclocking, or undervolting is actually very interesting and is probably a must in places where energy is at $0.3/kwh and above. Plus, units might last longer. i think the strategy might be to run at stock speed or overclocked to whatever level your ants are comfortable with (one of my units cannot go above 350mhz, one 375 and three 393). After that-either continue as before or reduce speed and enjoy profits for longer, perhaps.
