My lowly two B4 S3s are each powered by a Corsair CX500 (non-modular version with only two PCIe power connectors).  The CX500 accommodated the S3's 250M clock without any noticeable issues whatsoever which drew 425W at the wall at 29C ambient room temperature.  That's just under 80% load on the CX500.

The following are some data that I was able to jot down while in the process of exploring the S3/CX500 combo (hopefully the dude who's attempting to compile such data can use it).  Note that these figures are averages between my lowly two S3s (except for the ambient room temperature):

Legend:  Tambient/Tdevice/Wattage/Hash Rate

@ 218.75M (stock)
35C/45C/365W/440GHs

@ 225M
35C/45C/378W/453GHs

@ 237.5M
32C/43/400W/478GHs

@ 250M
29C/43C/425W/485GHs

I've set up my lowly two S3s in a V-Air (Vertical Airflow) configuration in an attempt to improve air-cooling efficiency (hot air rises).  Here are some pictures:

Pushing in cool air at the bottom and pulling out hot air at the top.

Since the less restrictive, widely-spaced chrome wire shelving now functions as a fan grill,
both intake and exhaust stock fan grills which are quite restrictive were removed for an improved airflow.

after i do the reset to factory default, and login 192.168.1.99 using user name and password root, but all the pages i click is NOT FOUND? can someone help me out please

This may be due to an ip address conflict or corrupted data.
First try reset to factory settings using the small reset switch on the front side of Antminmer S3.
Then go to WAN page and change you IP address of S3 to something like 192.168.1.92
If can't access the WAN page like before, turn off all the devices including this computer connected to the switch/modem/router.
Turn on the Ant S3 first, start all modem/router/switch, after 5 minutes start your computer connected to the same router/switch/modem.
Go to the Ant S3 web interface and change IP address, check whether its working. Report back your symptoms if not.

What Power Supply to use for S3? Sorry for newbie question. Please don't hate.
Does it work like this?

340 watts antminer s3 will work with 350 watts power supply?

and 10 or more antminer will work on 3400/5000 watts power supply?

I order 2 S3 today .. hope will quick deliver
If you ordered Batch 6, you most likely wont see anything for two weeks unless Bitmain says otherwise.

shipping date is on 12th of august.

am I missing something?

I have two Antminer S3 that are both hashing at 440GBs. They both are running at the stock frequency of 218.75 but one if the miners has 20% HW errors. I have read many people are lowering the frequency to 215 or 212.75 to lower power consumption. I was hoping maybe reducing the frequency might help my HW errors. However I cannot find where to lower the frequency. I have done scrypt mining, but this is my first sha256 mining. If someone could help explain to me how to lower the frequency I would greatly appreciate it.

Underclocking early without having a solid reason will only lower your earning potential.
Are you sure you calculated your HW error % properly?

So! All units are hashing over 440gh (Two over 490), but only when using a cronjob to restart the cgminer service every 1/2 hour - 1hr depending on the miner.
Regardless of how long I leave any of these guys up to "stabilize", they always fall to 390-398 after 48 hours.

There's only one thing. I am noticing a rather high number of duplicate shares poolside since starting this restart routine. (surprise)
Is there a cgminer flag among the bitmain options to clear the asic of all work upon a cgminer restart? I know the A1 miners have a similar command with '--hwreset'

Restarting every 30 minutes is a bad practice.
Try replacing thermal paste grease and I think the issue will be solved.

Either way, baring any unforseen issues, I should have two of my four S3's up and running in 12 - 16 hrs... 2am here now where I am in the US.

Grats man!! Lucky you Tongue mine is stuck in Hong Kong and I'm getting worried after all the horror stories I read on here.
Thx, what's your location and I just hope mine hash at at least 430 stock so I don't have to fiddle with anything.

Hey all,

What the chart below graphs is 12 S3's (upper band) and 12 S1's (lower band) and indicates that the S3's have a lot more "jitter" or volatility in hashing rate than S1's. I think when tweaking them, taking a longer term running average is more indicative of any improvements/degradations. My opinion is that changes should be evaluated over days versus hours.

And as we all know: "Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one and they all stink."
And yes we hash at the pool that shall not be named.

There's nothing mysterious about the 'increased jitter' you are seeing. Let's say the 'normal' jitter based on your sampling window is 5%. Well, 5% of 200GH is 10GH. 5% of 450GH is 23GH/s. Also, your S3's are likely getting a higher share difficulty set by the pool compared to the S1's; if the share difficulty is 2x higher, the variance (or 'jitter') will be 2x higher as well.

So if your S1's are sampling +/-10GH, your S3's might be sampling +/-50GH. This is the phenomenon you are seeing. But you can ignore it; the only thing that matters is the long-term average (as you have already guessed). Short-term jitter like this is a non-issue and is actually expected due to the sampling frequency.

What I suspected and expected to hear, thanks for the clarification and sanity check.

I have the S1's locked into 128 difficulty and the S3's @ 512. If left in "automatic" the pool places the difficulty at much higher values for both. 128-512 for the S1's and 1024 for the S3's.

I got used to the small variances of the S1's when, for instance, adjusting clock rate. When I started tweaking the clocks on the S3's it appeared in the short term to cause the hash rate to become "unstable". But when averaged or a longer period each unit seemed to find a "sweet spot" and be consistent day to day. Was just throwing that out there so as to relieve some anxiety of new S3 owners. Cuz' it drove me a little crazy for a few days.
