Anyone else having issues with discarded shares? I hooked up my 2 new S3s yesterday and have 60k discarded vs 11k accepted as of this morning,

Also, One of the S3s does not show the fan speed but I can see it running. Is there an update for this?

3rd issue: One miner only mines at 415 GH/s. much lower than the advertised 440. Again, is there an update? The other one mines constant at 450 GH/s.

Thanks in advance.

What PSU would you get on newegg.ca to power and over clock two AntMiner s3s?
Thanks!

The Corsair CX500 are pretty inexpensive especially when you time it with rebates, promo codes and now, an additional 10% discount with BTC payments.  It's been working for me:

this may be a side question but this little turn on switch that www.bitamaintech.com offers

that you can use rather then a paper clip to start a miner...I assume this works with most if not all power supplies
like a paper clip ...they are both 'universal"?

anyone have one how does the puppy work?

I have a KNC Jupiter and just lurking here ..have not decided if I want to get a couple antminers yet
but have a KNC Titan on the way...and hell for the price www.bitcoinmain.com is asking for this I
should step up and get a couple...paper clip (newbie) that I used on my first miner last oct 2013
at 7,131.80 I was incredulous.....like turn head away and hope it worked (it did) still makes me queasy
would rather not use the paper clip ever again ! (shudder)

anyway recommendations? the paper clip is safer? thoughts?

you can't beat the price thou...as or right now it is $1.75 usd or .003 btc... heh .....(admittedly that is a lot of paper clips)

thanks for the info

Paper Clip is safe if you do it correctly and protect it from any loose or shot by sticking some tape over it.

yeah did that the paper clip route..on my KNC Jupiter 550gh from last oct 18th 2013...heck I'll probably just get the above I usually spend
more then $1.75 for other 'toys' I get a 'thrill' from in the mail....but getting a KNC Titan probably will 'also' reguire a paper clip...time to
probably step it up and dish out the 'gasp' $1.75 each for more then a couple ...I mean I may even be a big shot and get THREE!.....

ACK! that is unfortunate!  frak now I guess I have to find them someplace else (likely at 5.95 a pop)

any ideas for that kinda stuff (am unfamiliar with side businesses buying bitmaintech stuff at 500 units a pop and selling it off the side
to bored schmucks like myself watching the mail for interesting toys.....(off to google)

Yeah but is that the over clock wattage?

No its for stock. For overclocked put 390 instead of 340.

A lot of newbie miners are here and S3 is most of the bitcoin miners entry point now. Nothing wrong in asking here.
Yes it like as you did above. But, add more margin of safety.
25% room is recommended but atleast 10% to 20% should be there.
So for one Antminer S3 340Watts x 125% = 425Watts.
So, a minimum +12V/35A (=425W) is recommended for a single S3.
If not that, atleast you should have 400Watts on +12V single rail on a power supply to run a single S3.
So for more S3s multiply them to the above.

Do your homework. Smiley

Please forgive my laziness since this was likely mentioned earlier in the thread but is there a guide somewhere to silence or quite the beeping of the S3? While handy for a giant farm operator this feature is quite annoying for the home hobby miner. It seems as though the options under the web UI can't do anything about the beeping.

Upgrade S3 from its web interface to the latest firmware from BitMainTech website.
The beep problem is an already solved issue.

Thanks for the help.

So! All units are hashing over 440gh (Two over 490), but only when using a cronjob to restart the cgminer service every 1/2 hour - 1hr depending on the miner.
Regardless of how long I leave any of these guys up to "stabilize", they always fall to 390-398 after 48 hours.

There's only one thing. I am noticing a rather high number of duplicate shares poolside since starting this restart routine. (surprise)
Is there a cgminer flag among the bitmain options to clear the asic of all work upon a cgminer restart? I know the A1 miners have a similar command with '--hwreset'

Restarting every 30 minutes is a bad practice.
Try replacing thermal paste grease and I think the issue will be solved.

I'm pretty aware how just how shitty it is, but unfortunately after re-pasting two units I saw a decrease in running temperatures but was still experiencing a steep drop off in hash after about 25-35 minutes. One of the units will spike back up to about 470 but never enough to average out to 440 without cgminer restarts.

I wish I could attribute this to poor labor skill on my part, but I'm just about 100% certain I don't suck at apply thermal paste. =/

Your miner has some series thermal issues as per my understanding.
Restarting is still a bad practice if doing it every 30 minutes. If it was once in 5 hours or so then no problem.
You average in 30 minutes is less bearable and for taking an average need to run atleast 2 hrs due to the range of move S3 does.
I advice you to findout the culprit in your miners, corner it and fix it.
Can you post your Miner Status page 5 minutes after starting S3 and 5 minutes after its hash rate is lowered, thats 5 minutes after 35 minutes.
We may try to fix if you are interested.

What Power Supply to use for S3? Sorry for newbie question. Please don't hate.
Does it work like this?

340 watts antminer s3 will work with 350 watts power supply?

and 10 or more antminer will work on 3400/5000 watts power supply?

Thank you very much for this answer, Really helped me figuring out what to prepare for my s3.

QUESTION: If i ordered 10-20 unit s3 and i would like to send the mined coins to 1 address or 1 PC that  controls all 1-20 units. What hardware should i prepare and how to configure a setup like this. I dont totally need the instruction but please give me the idea.

Thanks to anyone who will answer..

Brainwashed this way
I order 2 S3 today in bitmaintech.. hope will quick deliver

any body here purchase power supply in here (http://minersource.net/collections/frontpage/products/delta-dps2000w-with-adapter-board) ?  is minersource.net trusted?

I made that suggestion since he said he needed power for 20 miners. You don't need that for 2 miners. I would suggest 12v single rail(35amp per miner) with 4 pcie 6pin connectors(one wire per connector from psu). I use Corsair850tx myself for 2 miners, same as I used for my s1's. They are pricey, but they last. Most people are getting the Evga 1600 to run 3  s3's with also. And YES minersource.net is legit(ran by bobsag3)

Note: a cheap psu to run two "not overclocked" s3's
