Ugh. 10 hours in and Ant1 fell to 411Gh at 218 and Ant2 fell below 400Gh as expected. I wish Bitmaintech would include an option to auto-restart in the firmware. Thinking about creating a small cronjob to do just that...

Same here. After a reboot, they start hashig to specs, the longer the run, the slower they get. Both on web Interface and pool. Not temperature related.
Strangely sometimes i have to reboot them several times to get them working good. Seems i need to hit some
sweet spot with reboot or they are slow.

Exactly this. No errors on the asics but have to restart a few times at stock frequencies to get anything above 400gh. I've seen behavior like this with Coincraft blade chips missing cores upon cgminer restart, but they added the HW clear flag to fight that.

Yes, I noticed that sometimes they go down, but not on all machines. i have one that is very steady at ~441 at default.
Question: did someone tried to put heatsinks on R47 DC-DC converter? Was it effective? Where do you buy them?

I actually did this mod for all of my S1s and saw a 1GH inprovement across each unit. I have enough for one unit coming in on Monday so I'll go ahead and try it myself to verify.

The part you are looking for are the eight grey square "blocks" above the heat sink. There were only four-per-blade on the S1

The layout of the S3 board seems to allow for a single long heat sink to cover all of the dc-dc converters?  The S1 layout had caps in between preventing the use of a single large heat sink.  I bet the larger surface area will work much better than the smaller individual heat sinks.

Anyone know where to find something that will fit, and how to properly attach?

This is a terrific idea. I can check our old stocks and find some perfectly straight/flat heat sinks from old server video cards. I have some dual-head Quadros in mind that I might be able to cut up easily.

Either way won't be able to test until Monday. My fiancée will kill me if I head back in this weekend.
Definitely not on call.

Anyone know a good source for 3M thermal adhesive strips?

Looking forward to seeing this with a stripe across the 8 of them.

I was hesitating to order B1,B2,B3 and it seems i didnt lost a lot. as all batches was delayed and now batch 4 and 5 is simple proeorder with no warranty that will be delivered in time frame given.

I dont know whats the issue is but even labeling boxes as miner means issues for end user.
I am fan of bitmain but at this stage whats the point of ordering when their are not in stock?

Price is nice but again waiting time for B5 will kill any profit if any. We looking at least 14 days to receive any miner. What if customs will delay the process? Whats safe quantity to order? I was thinking to order 10. Any ideas how this will look for customs?

have they slipped from the s-1 yeah  just a bit.  down the drain no.

down the drain would be what knc did from the early jupiter last nov to this years neptune.

Based on all that i can see and read. these s-3's are better then the s-2's  but not quite as good as the s-1's.

By that I mean all aspects of the miner.   I order 4 so far I have 2 hashing 2 on the way.  when they come I will order 2 more.

after those 2 come I will assess my next move.  right now the mining game is very tough.

Maybe i was to harhs to say down the drain. But i compering s1 to s3 situation. And thought maybe they will do same what they done with s1.
I bought abut 20+ s1 with sushi and bitmain and never had any issues.

I still think mining is something which will make few BTC before is not profitable anymore but for small people like me is getting more difficult and will not be easier.
10 units will make roughly 3 BTC a month.

As for the wait time - keep in mind that when the S1 came out Bitmain was an unknown and demand built up gradually over a period of weeks.  But the S3 was highly anticipated and demand has been through the roof right from the start.  No matter how many get ordered, there is a point where any company will limit the how many they produce in a batch.
As time goes on I think you will see this demand and supply issue smooth out.
On another point - you sound very whiny.  You probably should get out of mining.

it is temp related but not asic chip temps .

it is the r47 part above the asic chips that is getting too warm.  and it is not measured .

I would love someone with a  to measure the r-47 part on and s-1  and then use a  temp probe on the r-47 inside the case of an s-3 to give the temp

my guess is the r47 part on  s-1 is 2-5c cooler then the ones on the s-3

try setting them to 212.5 freq

your dc to dc convertor  gets too warm  and your hash rate drops.

Frankly anyone going above and beyond 212.5 on batches 1 to 3 is going to be sorry in about 6 weeks.

If you want higher freq the 212.5 you will need a custom cooling solution for the dc to dc part.

my guess would be a heat sink on it and a fan directly on it blowing air out of a hole drilled into the case.  or set the freq to 212.5

still hoping to do a pencil mod with my next 2 coming in.

These s-3's will be a world beater at freq 200 or 206.25 with a pencil mod under volt.  maybe under .6 watts a hash  say .58 watts

Which part is the dc/dc converter?  Can you label it in a picture?  I have extra heatsinks and fans and a climate controlled server room.  If there is a mod that can fix this (short of replacement) I should have the means to do it.

Cool.  Thanks for that.  I have some similar heatsinks to what you had in the pics from your other post left over from the old GPU mining days.  Actually I still mine x11 with GPU's, I just don't have as many GPU's as I used to.

Here they are on the S1s. When they are lined up next to each other the creep from those fans flows across the board and those DC/DC heatsinks pretty efficiently.
I have 12+ running in an industrial office closet with passive intake and active exhaust.

May only be my experience, but when I installed the heat sinks it allows all of the units to go from 198-199@54 to 199-200@51.

you might underestimate how worthwhile it could be to build a shed or do small modifications that allow your miners to exhaust heat directly outdoors, and run a few 220/240V circuits to handle more hardware and improve PSU efficiency.  I did $2000 worth of work to handle an additional 10kW of equipment (closed loop cooling unfortunately) and its paid itself off already in the additional mining income

Can you give more light on that, as i have my s1 in garden. Hidden in something like shed. Only office fan is to pointed inside to flow more air inside.

What did you improved to achieve better performance and cooling?

I am having very similar issues.  Starts off ok but hashrate sinks later.  What sucks is that its impossible to tell when it will sink, sometimes soon, sometimes it runs fine for hours.  But once it takes a dive it never recovers.  I have seen it go 7 or 8 hours after a reboot with a good rate and then tank so bad for the next 2 or 3 hours that it just kills the total average to below 400.  Pool side graphs tell the same story.  Something happens and it just chokes.

One possibility I have been pondering is a batchfile using plink.  Should be able to store credentials and insert the one command you need which is reboot.  Set that as a scheduled task and you should be able to reboot whenever you like.  I see the scheduled task tab in the miner but not sure how to use it which is what I guess you are talking about.

yeah I am in your boat.  always less then 5-8k worth of gear.  not tiny maybe a little bigger then small.

but these days  to be middle sized means 20th.  I can't provide 20th in terms of the power needed.

that would be 42-44 s-3s  that comes to about 15 k-watts.  I can do 4k to 6k in the winter.  I can do 2k in the summer.

right now I am running
14 gridseed blades in my home around 1250 watts.
2 s-3's in my friends office.
1 dragon miner in china
32mh in the zencloud
a few icefury usb sticks in bitsolo.net-----------hey you never know
