LMFAO!!!
We waited for the S4 price first "this week" then "this week" and when it arrives its a stark raving bonkers one!

There were those on this forum that said 2 BTC would be at the edge of a sane price for the S4, and we're looking at over 3 BTC?

Sorry Bitmain but at that cost + import duty etc. this is NEVER going to give ANY ROI!

And they only added the price and not the specs for it?

Anyone parting with 3.357 BTC for a unit we have no idea of the specs? - Looks like the price is set to fluctuate with BTC price as the price is now 3.364 BTC

And no S3+ batch 10 price or delivery date?

Anyone else smell that? I'm not sure if its BS I smell or BA?

ROFL, you're better off buying BTC with fiat and save your electric

Gah:

Price:      1450 USD ( 3.357 BTC ) Up Coming

So now we know, $1,450 for 1 TH/s. Still no dimensions, exact power usage, or dates yet. That's 0.0003981468 BTC/GH higher than the S3+ Batch #9. As an example, compared to an S3+, that means you're paying an additional 0.18 BTC to have higher density and hopefully at this price, an integrated PSU. Let's compare 3 S3+s running on an eVGA 1300 bought off NewEgg today to an S4:

S3+ x3 = 1.74 BTC
eVGA 1300 = $170 USD (after rebate, let's be generous) or ~0.3935 BTC
Total spent: 2.133 BTC for 1.359 TH/s, or 1.569 BTC/TH.

S4 = 3.357 BTC
Total spent: 3.357 BTC for 2.0 TH/s (hopefully!), or 1.6785 BTC/TH.

At this point, you're paying an extra 0.1095 BTC/TH for the added density, ease of install, and goodness I hope a lower power draw!

The S3 draws 0.78J/GH: an exercise for someone with more time than myself, how much more efficient than the equivalent hashrate of S3s does the S4 have to achieve to make it more profitable to operate in the long run than an S3?

For instance, I pay $0.08 USD/kWh. In my experience 3xS3s draw right around 1.020 kWh, so $1.96/day I think, right? So I spend about $1.44 (0.0033 BTC) per TH/day running S3s. So let's say I want my S4 to be cheaper to run after 16 weeks, what would its power draw have to be, to beat running S3s? The S3s will spend 0.373 BTC in power during those 16 weeks, so the S4 must only draw 0.2638 BTC per TH. I guess I can do a back-of-the-napkin on this, and say that to be more cost effective after 16 weeks, the S4 must be 30% more efficient I think. Which puts my target at 0.55J/GH.

How does that sound? If the S4 is higher than 0.55J/GH, then its only "winning feature" is density, it woul otherwise lose on all other fronts. If it's lower than 0.55J/GH, then after X weeks, it'll be cheaper overall due to a lower operating cost.

S3 miner was 0.58. 6 of those (2.8 Th/s) comes in at the same price for way more hashes.

Would it not cost more in electricity to run 5 x S3's than an S4?

OK.. OK..  HA.. OK

IF power is < .4W/GH maybe.. maybe

We do not agree some business practice in the community, which is intended to distribute the risk and benefit asymmetrically. We are here to change it. No preorders have been accepted, and forever we will not accept pre-order before we feel logically 100% percent sure that we can deliver on time. There will be no unexpected waiting and failed/delayed taping-out or any other kind of delaying risks for our customers. The most risky phase of the AntMiner development has gone, but the first batch production and testing is still full of challenge. We will sell only in stock miners for the first Batch, expected within a week or two.

No need to do complex ROI calculations.
This S4@$1450  Shocked is just a huge no No Never buy miner.
No way it will breakeven.
Sorry, BitMainTech come down to the floor and see the reality and put a realistic price in BTC terms.  Grin

In the past I used to only use them but now Bitmain is really failing.  Just buying 4 of the S3s is over 1 BTC cheaper (and that is at the inflated S3 price).  I guess they are charging 1 BTC for a PSU, this is really a fail.  I am glad I have moved on to different manufactures...

Hahah. What a joke.

S3 miner was 0.58. 6 of those (2.8 Th/s) comes in at the same price for way more hashes. DO NOT BUY PEOPLE. Also, it will probably be filled with bugs like the S2 (loose blades, broken blades, etc)

Hate to say this because I like Bitmain and dislike ASICMiner, but the Prisma is a much better deal unless the S4 is way more efficient.

Sorry Bitmain, $1450 is too much. Maybe next time.

Yeah, not going to be purchasing. 90+ days for ROI if you aren't paying for electricity. And this is given the difficulty doesn't jump (which won't happen).

They are probably integrating their services with hashnest better, or updating their website layout entirely. Also, I would not be surprised if the S4 was released at $1300+ USD to which I suggest no one buys.

Regardless, they can still leave the old site online while changes are made.
