Ok, re-imaged the SD card and the update worked this time. Firmware seems to run a few GH/s faster, and minerlink has been added.

Now to bust out the DMM to see if the voltage is "fixed".

Great, just flashed the new firmware to test it and it fucked up the SD card.  Roll Eyes

Is 55C an ok working temp for an antminer with stock PSU? (2.2 TH/s)?

yes.. anything under 70C is pretty good.  Are you sure it's hashing at 55C?  Wink

What's your ambient?

Its in my house in an empty office so Ambient is about 65F, screen output (on the front) says 55C. Running latest firmware and the fans are of course at roughly the speed of light.

That's way too hot for such a low ambient temp. Check for dead fans, dust, etc. I had a unit that reported much higher temps than normal, I had to change the hashboards to keep the fans from running all out. It was a good 20c higher than an S4 sitting next to it at the same settings. You can also use --bitmain-homemode to reduce fan speeds.

I guarantee that if you have 4 working fans and it isn't clogged with dust, at least 1 of your boards are reporting incorrect temps.

Anti-DDOS function?  Huh What the fuck!?

How about fixing voltage control and the J7 hashboard which is constantly overvolted to 0765 and completely uncontrollable??? That hashboard increases power usage by a lot, costing each and every S4 owner more electricity than a properly working S4 would and killing potential profits!

BitmainWarranty, can you please get us more details other than something something DDOS and improved minerlink? How is something improved that wasn't there in the first place, BTW? Guessing this FW adds it.

New firmware came out

https://bitmaintech.com/support.htm?pid=00720140930114518599JXGHWWD80660

initramfs.bin.SD-20150415.tar.gz

add anti-DDOS function.
improve minerlink function.
MD5: 71CADFCA76E20A667CC740D5C81EBE5C

Does that mean the S4 has minerlink now? Any brave souls?

Any mention of the overvolt problem?

Since you are a farmer on a farm you should be able to take part in the IRS tax cuts for farmers!!!  Cheesy

LOL!  I wish.  I actually wouldn't even try asking... Wink

Big plans, that's cool.  That's actually what I am planning right now, starting with a dedicated 200A next week and another 200A in a few months.  Then I'll see.  Electrician is coming next week but first I have to install some infrastructure (utility pole for the new electric line, underground wires, etc.) It is an exciting project, and with summer coming, wife, kids and friends starting to complain about the heat, I have no choice but moving my miners out of the 4 houses I'm using right now for all of them.   Wink

200Amps of miners will be crazy hot , i have only 60Amps and the heat is insane , my 2nd floor gets to 89 degress when its only 50-70outside

The two 200A panels won't be here in my home, the noise and heat would be intolerable.  I found a place that I rent on a farm, some kind of huge garage with no isolation and great ventilation, where I will install my little mining farm.  A farm within a farm, isn't it poetic?   Grin

Sounds great!!!

What are your electricity costs per kWH?

Around 0.07$ per kWh, which is ok but I wish it was 0.04$ per kWh like in Washington.  But up here in Quebec, temperatures don't get as high as down there.  Hydroelectricity is cheap and temperature is cool, ideal for mining.  Smiley

And women are hot.  Wink

There are places in Washington where power is less than 2 cents a kw/h.  I'm working on renting out part of an old fruit packing plant right now just to host my own farm, even with rent it'll be WAY cheaper than running them in portland where its 13 cents a kw/h

Yes, 3 counties are like that.  However, one of those counties has a moratorium on anyone requesting more than 1 megawatt at one location.  That would be Chelan County Washington PUD.  I'm looking at another county.

Yeah, its been a real issue, I got tired of dealing with the PUD in Chelan and Douglas and started looking for buildings with big power that were empty.  Old supermarkets, factories, packing plants etc.

7 cents per kWH still isn't bad at all.  Much better than my present 10.5 cents per kWH in Alabama.  It will jump up to 12.1 cents per kWH from June through September here in Alabama.  I'm totally ready to move to Washington State.  I'm waiting for a couple of things to fall in line personally before the move.  They could fall in line in the 3rd quarter or may not occur until the 4th quarter.  The sooner the better in my opinion of course.

Yes, the temperature is nice in Quebec.  Hydro is a bit cheaper though in the 3 counties I'm eye balling in Washington State.  It's among the cheapest in the world.  I'm sure the women are hot in Quebec.  However, I'm marred with a 4 year old son.  I don't want to muck it up.

I'm surprised you haven't had a visit from the local PD or FBI, electric like that trips them off to grow lights!!

I don't think that happens as much these days because local PD and FBI especially are in cahoots with the NSA and have access to purchases made and websites visited.  They would know if grow lights, etc, were purchased on the web or else where through credit card bills and electronic bank records.  The 4th amendment is gone.  We no longer have privacy.

they just do a few fly bys with infrared  and you show as white on there gear.

They then will see you  do it 24/7/365 and they know you are not growing plants .

Now put your gear on a 13 hour on -  11 hour off timer and you will attract some extra attention.

Yes, you have a good point there.

Man you guys are my heros!!  With 1 S4 running, the only one showing me love is ComEd when the electric bill shows up!!

During my winter I was running 11k watts.   My electricity company loved me so much that they had to split bill into two.  They were not setup to take such high bills for individuals so they split my bill in 2 that their system would take and I paid two bills all winter.

Yeah my bills are nuts too bascially 800usd a month.  There has to be a way to get a better rate.

Move to Washington State or Colorado.  There are counties in both states with rates less than 5.5 cents per kWH.  Only move if you plan on getting large though.

If I younger and single I would have moved to Washington State to mine, but at 58 and married for 30+ years that is just not going to happen.

I would love to have 100 sp20's running in a Washington State   backyard with a  Barn paying 4 or 5 cents a kwatt.

Those sets of 15 sp20's were as low as 5k  so for about 40k I could of  had a 120th farm running Since Jan 1st. power would be under 2200 a month

I'm 48 [Will be 49 this summer], married and have a 4 year old.  We are thinking big and we are willing to move away from family and old friends to take a gamble at preparing better for retirement.  It's everyone's prerogative though.  You know your situation and what sacrifices you are willing or not willing to take.  I support you no matter what.  The more people mining, the better for bitcoin.

Yes, I jumped on one of the last 15 pack of SP20's they had.  They said they were sold out a couple of hours after I made my purchase.

Bitmain, when can we expect a new firmware update to re-enable voltage control? The last update killed voltage control. I'd use the previous Oct 16th if I needed it right away, but the latest firmware is much more stable. With summer coming I'll be wanting to underclock and undervolt, along with many others I'm sure.

Please make sure that all 4 hash boards respond to voltage settings, previous firmware only controlled 3 of them while the forth was stuck at 0750.

Bitmain wants to be fail and not profitable our S4's. DONT USE LATEST FIRMWARE !

i am planing to share this solution step by step guide in here when this donation adress reach 4 BTC.

Can u explain what u mean about a fix & what it does??
dont be lazy read few pages back. Smiley it allows to down the voltage to make the miners more power efficient. The newest jan firmware from bitmain does not allow this, they locked the voltage 0725 so you cant do shit

That's why I don't do firmware upgrades for the S4 from bitmain.  I was concerned about that.  It's a shame but my fears came true.  I did all the firmware updates for my S3's to adjust voltage and frequency; even on the old S3 that are not S3+.  I was always leery about firmware updates for the S4 when the S5 came out.  I still have the original firmware they came with (File System Version:  Thu Oct 16 15:58:23 CST 2014).
