The most important advice for newbie is about security. Be careful because there are a lot of phishing attempts. Secure your coins in wallets and be extra careful with your passwords and private keys.

And remember to do your own research when deciding in what to invest.

My advice is to read and study as much as you can the blockchain. Then it will be easier to understand the wallet, the private keys and maybe you could also recognize scam coin from the percentage owned by the dev, from the premine, from the algo...

Hi guys,

Newbie here trying to set up a crypto profile. 1 month ago I had heard the name Bitcoin but didn't know what it was other than a digital currency and had not heard of any alt coins so bear with me  Undecided

I don't have a huge amount to invest, thus far i have 0.13 BTC and 2 ETH, 2.6k XRP AND 50 OMG. I want to keep adding to this and keep it for as long as needed, i  am not really interested in trading as i don't understand this space enough to do that.

Any ideas or thoughts? Should i move any of these around? Concentrate on adding to bitcoin? Add to XRP/OMG etc etc???

Also i have a ledger nano s en route to keep my coins.

cheers

Currently Bitcoin it take a huge hit, One can only assume this is from the Segwit2x Cancellation. If you plan on investing in something I would go with Altcoins right now. You can get more tokens for cheaper, because they are cheaper. You can also look into ICOs. I follow a few.

Read widely - the prices of most coins move when there is some news about them.

Besides bitcointalk, don't forget to look at reddit. Most coins have their own subreddits, and those places are full of news about development and marketing of the coin they're are trying to establish. And of course Google is your friend.

I don't think you are that a newbie as you presented it to be,  but the first thing to do, is to secure your wallet, there is no need of getting or acquiring something if you cannot even secure it your self, get hard wallet

I think you are doing very well.  Actually, your portfolio distribution is better than most I see posted here.

Hardware wallet choice is excellent so I think you did your research well.  Continue what you are doing and add coins that you believe in.  Avoid day trading until you learned enough.

If I may recommend, check the following coins (not to invest on them right away but a short list to check).  I invested on MOST of these myself.
ARK, NEO, ZEN, RPX, GAS, KNC, LINK, STRAT, ZRX, WTC, VTC, LSK, XSPEC, REQ

BTW, I did not mention BTC, ETH, and OMG since you already have them. Wink

Good luck!

You are ahead of the game and in the minority because you have started investing early. Over the next 3 years, the crypto market is going to explode and will look completely different. Poink pointed out some great coins to look at. Some of the ones I will highlight and say to look at as well are: REQ, NEO, LINK, ZRX, WTC. Some of the other ones I would suggest looking into is IOTA, WAVES, ENJ, DNT, BAT, SNGLS. You don't need to nor should you invest in all, but at least have a look at them. I would highly recommend looking into REQ right now as it's completely undervalued and will have a huge year in 2018.

LOL. 0.13 BTC, 2 ETH, 2.6k XRP and 50 OMG is not a small amount Smiley). But if I were you I will exchange both XRP and OMG to ETH and Bitcoin cause I don't really believe in these altcoins besides BTC and ETH are the best cryptocurrency for now and they have very good potential go farer in the future. But I think you no need to do it right now, just keep it for a little bit longer or use it to trade to get more profit before exchanged them into BTC and ETH.

my advice to the newbie, you should often post your rank rank up to jr.member or higher, because if you have jr.member or more you can follow the signature where the prize or pay is bigger. for now just look for the project first.

Welcome to the crypto but as a newbie you should try to learn more about crypto. Please just stay and if you are having the more money and you can try to invest it into the bitcoin.
If you have no experience in trade and never try to do that. That will give you heart attack if you are buying at the peak and get dumped just in a second. it may better for you to learn more about crypto.

The most important thing I want to tell you is just don't keep doing stuff for money. Focus on getting to Jr.member first and another more important thing is you need to be active minimum one post everyday no matter what. So yeah Welcome to the forum.

Advice for a "newbie" would be to do good research before investing into any Altcoin or Bitcoin. It's a world full of risks! In the cryptoworld, you win some and you lose some ofcourse but you can prevent losses or fails from happening by checking before investing.
I believe you can participate first in Bounty programs and Airdrops too, read forums regarding coins and ICO's!

If you don't have knowledge better just hold bitcoin only. but as far as I can see the coins you are holding at the moment is a good coin. but remember, that when bitcoin prices increase, altcoin price will fall.

The main advise for newbie is not to try to trade. It's very hard job even for experienced guys.
The second advice is that you should always diversify your risks. Make 2 portfolios. The first one is for long term hodl, the second one is for ICO investment. Each of them should consists of 3-10 coins/projects.

Before investing, read as much as you can. Also you should take into account positive and negative comments.
Never sell altcoins, if the price is less that you have invested. It's better to wait in order not to lose.

I see you are far ahead seeing that you already have alt coins, and a nano ledger. A lot of people ask questions on even how to purchase altcoins and how to trade it. If you are just starting I think you are taking a nice route with alt coins as well those are solid coins with a decent fluctuation. Just don't be too greedy when you make gains if you are going for the short term, set your goals (which are hopefully realistic) with your sell orders and leave it be. If you are going for long term, as long as you did your THOROUGH research, just be patient!

Welcome to the club.  Wink
