Ebola is about 100 times less mutable than influenza.
This has implications for bioterrorism (if you have an antivirus, its not so likely to mutate around it).
The weaponization of ebola remains my concern in this.  I'm more concerned about stupid humans.
The sickness is a dire tragedy, but even so, I am not one to seek governmental assistance for its resolution and prefer a less organized response.
Nature tends to balance itself out, but unbalanced humans are so very dangerous, with immense potential for deleterious effect.

Yeah, what's going on with Ebola is pretty insane. I'm just glad to live in a part of the world that has good healthcare and Ebola hasn't spread to yet.
Good healthcare has nothing to do with ebola spreading. It has to do with the fact that is is highly contagious and and there is no cure

Ebola is not highly contagious
It primarily affects those who are near the person and taking care of them for extended durations and not reporting cases because they do not want them going to the hospital etc.

What will happen if Ebola arrives in America?

First, there will be a lot of misplaced panic. But there’s no reason for most Americans to fear of Ebola’s wider spread. While Ebola is highly infectious, it is not very contagious.

It’s highly infectious because someone stricken with Ebola is very likely to get sick (and harbors a lot of virus particles that they can readily transmit to another person, given the right conditions). But the virus itself is fragile, and does not easily spread. So it’s not very contagious. In short, Ebola is harder to contract than many other viruses.

The Ebola virus can only be spread by direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, or other bodily fluids or secretions (stool, urine, saliva) of infected people. Infection can also occur if the broken skin of a healthy person comes into contact with environments that have become contaminated with an Ebola patient’s infectious fluids (such as soiled clothing).

Moreover, patients usually only become contagious – and can spread the virus — once they start contracting symptoms. Prior to the onset of symptoms, it’s typically harder to spread the virus. Yet the onset of symptoms is usually quite severe. So it’s easy to recognize that a person is sick. Moreover, stricken individuals are less likely to travel about – and spread the virus — given their debilitated condition.

All of these factors make control of the infection feasible. If isolated cases emerge in the U.S., our public health apparatus should be able to readily contain its spread.

Actually it has. The most cases of infection associated with the violation of sanitary norms and conducting some specific funeral rites. All these things are impossible in any civilized country due to higher education level, actions of the ministry of healthcare and sustainable executive power which can suppress any kind of idiotic activity with the help of guns... If it would be necessary.

God forbid the virus mutates to become airborne.

Captain Trips and The Stand anyone?

It already is confirmed to be airborne. A study was conducted with a pig and an ape separated in 2 different cages in the same room.
The transmission of ebola was observed and confirmed to be air transmissible. But don't confuse that with you catching the virus from
someone sneezing a mile away and you getting 1 spec of virus and becoming sick. The important issue is the viral load you are exposed to.
It is possible in most healthy people that they won't manifest the symptoms or become ill with a very tiny viral load. The immune system
can usually take care of this. But don't let this slight downplaying of the issue deter you from taking protective measures for yourself.

If I were you, I'd look into refining your diet and eliminating foods that can suppress your immune system. And never ever use a microwave
for anything. Not even water. It only takes a 6th grader and a good microscope to visually inspect the nutrients and molecules composing
food after microwaving to see a physical deterioration in the quality. When your body is exposed to this destroyed matter, the immune
system has to do extra work to eliminate the foreign debris. This greatly strains your body and can contribute to bad health over time
if done for too long. Our cells require highly precise molecular structures comprising the various nutrients we ingest in order to function
properly. If you destroy these fragile molecular structures by overstimulating them with hundreds of watts of RF energy and assume you
are being nourished, then you are sadly mistaken. You are literally better off eating from a dumpster than from a microwave oven. Except
for the obvious like the food being contaminated with something nasty of course...

Wow. What a bunch of BS. I would understand when were using arguments esoterik gurus told you. But using arguments from physics and chemistry sciences, thats a threat in logic itself. Always asking myself, why spiritual theories has to be proven my sciences. That doesnt match. I think you heading for the nobelprice, if you can really proof, what you written down. Go for it boy!

Liberian government isn't looking too strong or credible. Declaring a community-wide quarantine could bring an armed response if citizens are so distrustful, they wonder if it's intentional genocide.

It looks like some westerners are starting to panic, so here are some soothing words: if Ebola ever did reach a western country, it wouldn't actually be that hard to contain. Modern medical systems know how to handle Ebola pretty well, despite the fact that there is no proven cure or vaccine. Helping those who have contracted the disease is very difficult, but containing it before all hell breaks loose is entirely feasible.
The reason that containment is failing miserably in Africa is because the public health systems in countries like Liberia and Sierra Leone are, well, miserable. If you're in Africa, you should be worried. Otherwise, please go back to your first world problems...

The spread amongst uneducated people is very sad. But for the most part I think it will self-contain, being as deadly as it is. Even in a densely populated area.

Armed men attack Liberia Ebola clinic, freeing patientients.

"Armed men attacked an Ebola clinic in Monrovia, local witnesses told Agence France Presse. As many as 29 potentially Ebola-infected patients fled".

"The attack comes just one day after a report of a crowd of several hundred local residents, chanting, 'No Ebola in West Point,' drove away a burial team and their police escort that had come to collect the bodies of suspected Ebola victims in a slum in the capital, Reuters reports. The mob then forced open an Ebola isolation ward and took several patients out, many saying that the Ebola epidemic is a hoax."

So no wonder it is spreading...

Idiots first.

The next time when they come crying and demanding medicine they should be shot dead on the spot.
I don't think someone that is asking for medical help is an idiot. I would say the opposite actually. Someone who asks for medical help instead of hoping they will get better is intelligent and educated. For the most part it is not their fault that they contracted ebola and if it was their fault it was because they were using their skills to try to prevent it from spreading (meaning they are doctors who are helping with the quarantine efforts).

I was talking about the ones that stormed the hospital.
At least a few of them will come back begging to be saved.

Also there are a few reports that some of the patients run away and never came back. Those are also intelligent and educated?

There realy is something interesting behind what u stated.

When you look at all the recent floods, diseases and unexplained plane crashes it realy does seam like higher power is fighting back.
Dont know why they dont start with top 1% richest population tho, since they are the biggest disease in the world .

When your stash of bitcoins will make you one of the wealthy ones , are you going to say the same?
What are you going to respond to the people who will at that time post the same thing about you being a cancer?

Not that simple. They were stupid to steal the infected mattresses and other equipment. But remember that the looters are residing in a densely populated slum, with a population of 40,000. If Ebola gets in to these crowded slums, then hell will break loose. So far, the infection is mostly limited to the remote forest villages. If it ever gets in to the urban centers, then nothing could stop it.

BTW... it was really a stupid move from the part of the Liberian government, to set up the treatment center inside a slum.

Hmm, i hope the americans just get the medicin right in time.

The news is that both the infected Americans are showing great improvement (Nancy Writebol and Kent Brantly). They were being treated with the experimental drug (ZMapp). Dr. Kent Brantly might be discharged from hospital within two or three days.

This is great news for them but not for people in Africa, also infected.
It's not fair that infected people in America can get the experimental drug (ZMapp) but infected people in Africa can't, like that they are second class people.
I really hope in the future all infected people will receive the same treatment and have the same chance to survive.

If you have only limited supply of a drug , who are you going to treat first?
An unknown person in a far away country or your family ?

Why don't you start donate for this cause and help them produce more rather that blaming others?

ZMapp has now arrived in Liberia:

"Three Liberian health care workers who have contracted Ebola received an extremely scarce experimental serum on Friday at a hospital outside the national capital, Monrovia, a Liberian health official said Saturday."

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/17/world/africa/three-liberian-health-workers-get-experimental-ebola-drug.html

Very bad news.
It seems that there is no real success in stopping Ebola in Africa.
If nothing change soon, Ebola may spread to other continents as well.
We must stop Ebola right now, at this early stage or I'm afraid to think what can happen otherwise, in the worst scenario.
