I agree with you, in bull-run everyone on twitter, telegram and other social channels were shouting HODL HODL, but honestly, I didn't listen to anyone and straight cashed-out 50% of my total portfolio with huge huge profit which I can ever imagine in 10years job and hardwork. I'd suggest you to NEVER listen to anyone in crypto ALWAYS does whatever you believe in. Set a goal like at which point you'd sell your each crypto asset and when it hits your target price just do it, never listen to the influencers and crypto gurus over twitter and web. You'll be bombarded with newses in bull-market like huge partnership this and that happen with XYZ, and you get tempted to HODL instead of selling, but NO DON'T I REPEAT DON"T
Honestly i feel for the same trap in jan 2018, i had few good altcoins at the time and in fact i still went ahead and buy more instead of selling everything off, i have learnt a big lesson since that time and now even if bullrun don't come but market gives some few profits i won't hesitate to take out my profit

Why did you still hold that bag of altcoins, almost of them are worthless now? You must regularly check your project, because there are so many scam projects and failures in this market, then you will lose ALL your money if you didn't cut loss and move to other project.

And you need to set a goal, sell it when have profit. I think you have had a crazy profit because you bought them from 2015. But in the hype of 2017, you didn't take profit, maybe because you are too greedy.

of course, who would not HODL when all your friends in the group chat are also doing the same, even if the price rise high already, they are still saying HODL, and I really do it, and just sell a small portion of my investment to reward myself temporarily was I was into a big goal with my remaining investment.
And then, the correction comes started in year 2018, and I still didn't panic, continue to hold and even accumulate a bit when I see price has really dump a lot, just imagine ETH drop 10 times, so its really cheap and really tempting for any investors. So here I am now, I am still holding at a big loss but at the same time I am still hopeful one day my dreams will come into reality.

Hodling is good for the projects that have real value and already established their trustworthy in the market like the top 10 coins. It's sad to say that most of the altcoins you hold are down more than 90% in value and have no hope of recovery. If you want HODL, you must always check the status of the project, the activities of the community and the project team, whether they are operating in the right roadmap. If one of these is missing, you need to sell it immediately. I think you are too subjective and lacking in knowledge when not carefully examining those projects and keeping them up till now, and losing a lot of money.
Why are we going to be a fool on the word HOLD? We are the ones who will decide if we will gonna hold our coins or not. We can sell and we can buy us anytime we want. Why are we going to hold if the market is in an uptrend? Of course, we choose to sell it and make a profit right? So it also depends on the market.
Holding it even we are in the bull market is a big mistake , there are many people has been experience this lost, becuase they believe that when holding it will increase its value sooner . if you are in profit already take the profit and leave dont wait for dump will happen, its better to have sure earnings than gambling it for just hoping that it will increase more .
Yes, and it does include myself, having the same mistake as OP, instead of selling at ATH, I chose to hold and lost the opportunity of maximizing my profit. I was too greedy at that time and believe that crypto prices will increase more and will never go down. So, now I learned my lesson and my current holdings will not be for hodl forever, I prepared myself to sell them when new ATH will come.

Agree, Hodling is not a mistake because this is part of an investment strategy but in my opinion because the error is in the selection of coins that we invest. Hodling or trading is an investor strategy to make a profit and I think it would be better if we analyze every coin we will invest because many coins do not have liquidity
We are not fools, even the traditional market has its ups and downs. When you buy assists, you might have to wait for quite a long time to realize or make profits in your investment so I agree with the last part of your message where you quoted that things will get better again

In my opinion, out of 10 altcoins, nothing will benefit you in the long run. Look at me in the market, is there good news for altcoin, I don't think there is, so the word "HOLD" is good for coins that have great potential going forward, I know that altcoin mentioned by the OP has been on the market for a long time but doesn't think it's good to hold it in the long run.

Hodl is a good way to maximize your potential profit and a good way to not lose much more profit that you can get from that coins. You can hodl whatever coins you think is good for the long term but make sure that coins is the best coins to be hodl on. For me i rather pick only the best top 10 coin on the market cause i know they can survived long time then a new one in the market.
doing hold is one way to invest but hold must also have a strong foundation, if you do hold without knowing the aspects of doing it, you are wasting your time. so to hold it must have a strong reason for example when investing in bitcoin or altcoin that has the potential 
We actually have our own perception of what coin we believe would be profitable in the next few years because we cannot predict the market price of such cryptocurrency. But through the news that we can read from different sources, we can trust to hodl crypto. But for me, the moment when we became a fool in hodling crypto is when we aren't paying attention to which coins to hodl. We should have our basis or reasons before we decide to hodl to avoid our investment go to waste in the future.
