I want to ask everyone interested in the topic of betting a question: are you developing as a betting player? Now I don't mean casino games that are completely dependent on luck. I write about sports and other bets in which you can make a profit in the long term, although it is very difficult and the percentage of such players is very small.
I also ask that those who “play for fun” not take part in the discussion. Such people, in my opinion, have little valuable to say on this topic.
If you take your entire gaming history, would you say that you have learned anything during this time?
In other words, are you progressing as a player? Is your strategy improving? Is the quality of risk management and money management improving? Have you learned to control your emotions? Are your winning statistics stable? Do losses keep you out of the game? Have you learned to recover from losses? Are you getting better at predicting the results of sports matches?

Well, the many things that you mentioned like money management, risk management, control of emotions etc, all these things should be in a gambler no matter he is gambling in a casino or as a sports bet, these qualities are needed in a gambler to have minimum risks and maximum output from gambling.
These are the skills that every gambler should develop and then when it comes to sports betting then you need to further analyse the matches and players before placing bets. Still, with all these analyses you can lose bets but if you have above mentioned skills with you, you will never be in a big loss.

I think people who say no is only want to being humble or they didn't really notice it.

You don't have to be a regular gambler, but if you still gambling occasionally or rarely, from time to time you're always improve even though it's just small. You will be familiar how to play the game, how to enjoy it and how to control your emotion.

Improvement isn't always about financial aspect.

Yes, there is an improvement in my betting games because I have learn a lot of things from other gamblers mistakes that make me to start earning money from betting games, but I don't use to play with big money which I like it in that way to stay long in betting.

Even though, I develop to be a good player in the betting, I don't think I will bet above $10 or $20 a day because I don't want anything that will make other people to learn from my mistakes in the gambling center because I know how to use small amount of money to win in the gambling, which I use to watch football games to know strong teams and weak teams. It has been long, I activated that emotion in my gambling, never to gamble above my budget no matter the winning or loosing in the gambling because I know how to control my emotion not to experience regret in gambling.

I think sports bet have some sort of advantage over casinos and fully harnessed can result in rapid growth. For instance, the bettor can now chose from many options such as 3ways, handicap, corners, players to score, goal range and many other easy options. You must not bet direct win but can explore other easy options. Consequently, I feel anyone who settles down to analyze the matches will be able to win, if not consistently but to some extent so that staking power can be returned to avoid the pain of losing everything and requiring to continually deposit to be able to bet. Anyone not making progress can easily switch system of playing, instead of direct  wins, 3ways or even goal range or corners can be explored. This is the flexibility that sports bet offer that are not available in casinos.

If you are into gambling but you are not interested in playing casino but you are interested in sports betting then I definitely welcome you because I also like to bet on sports.  Casino is based on luck so there is not much opportunity to apply your own skills but when we bet with a team but of course our skills and experience will be evaluated. If we have enough knowledge about sports then surely we will bet in favor of stronger team in betting and we will definitely have more chances of winning there. If you don't have much experience with different teams in sports betting then you can follow different leagues regularly for a few days and then when you have a good idea about different teams you can continue with sports betting.

For progress in gambling, I wouldn't say I have gone far in it since my gambling losses are higher than my winnings. On that note, I wouldn't say I am making progress in gambling since there is little of winning and more of losing. Although the money I spent on gambling is still little. I have been holding on to that for a long, I would call that progress because I have learned to do it for a long, not to gamble more than 5% of my weekly income. That kinda mindset is still stuck in me.

Other questions you asked, so long as you don't keep records of your gambling takes, and you don't gamble as many times in a week or month, you can't for say how progressive you have been all this while in gambling since there will be many losses to experience and how you have learned to gamble with the money you can afford to lose

So many questions but to mention a few. Let me share how progressive I have been since I started gambling.

Yeah, I think I am getting better day by day. I started poorly by not knowing what to look out for in sports betting, I had issues with emotional swings, and I had a big loss and tended to chase my money back with terrible bets.

With time I followed up with some sports analysts and I got to understand how to look at team stats, player injuries, past matches, and anything that would give me a clue to look at, (specifically sports betting). Now I try to stick to my plan and budget, even if I lose a few in a row. I believe that losses happen, but I got to learn the cause and adjust.

Honestly, every gambler who has been gambling for a long time would have been developing positively, sometimes they get too nice, but some are not even aware of the improvements because they are synced with it by now. At least in developing and not just throwing money away online in the name of gambling.

I believe I haven’t, but in terms of personal growth, I think I am. I think it correlates with how I am as a person towards how I deal with gambling in the first place so whether or not it is about gambling as long as you are being diligent and who you are and know that you are going to be a better person from yesterday, I guess it will spill out onto gambling as well.

If this is the case, I think I Have developed a way to be more emotionally grounded and not be reactive.

Are you developing as a player?
 Yes
 No
Lately yes, I see developments in gambling, especially in sports betting, where this month I bet on having good statistics for wins, Maybe I succeeded in doing that by learning from my past experience, where I rarely took into account my opponent's statistics, so I often experienced setbacks in the gambling arena.

I have good predictions for now, so I can produce good winning numbers, even though the five bets I placed one lost, at least four bets produced good value, especially football betting, for that reason my emotions are stable and I can do all that, maybe my luck is currently good in sports betting.

I hope to maintain the current condition in betting, where I continue to hone my current experience in gambling, I hope my betting statistics continue to increase beyond what they are now.

Is your strategy improving?

No. The strategy I use is fairly simple: look for oversized odds that don't match what I know/feel to be reality, based almost purely on recent stats and current form. e.g. Team A loses 50% of matches against Team B. Odds on Team A to lose then should be close to 2/1. Anything much bigger than that is value.

That strategy can't really improve, but can be tweaked.

Is the quality of risk management and money management improving?

Since I started betting on crypto, I set aside a budget per (football season). I typically don't redeposit new funds if I lose before the season ends. I do deposit for unexpected new events/competitions/promotions.

But with profits (unexpected ones especially) I don't manage that money well. Tend to lose it all quicker than I won it.

Have you learned to control your emotions?

More or less. I don't over-deposit as I explained above but I do find it difficult to keep winnings. It's not too bad, though, I never intend to make money from gambling, it's just a nice bonus to have at the end of a season.

Are your winning statistics stable? Do losses keep you out of the game? Have you learned to recover from losses? Are you getting better at predicting the results of sports matches?

I don't think anyone can have stable statistics. It's the very nature of gambling that ensures you can't keep stable results. I am quite good at tracking though, most people don't. See my thread for 5 years keeping track of bets: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/odds-units-advantage-sportsbook-36315-units-5011930

Show me one guy who does this for his strategy. I don't know any.

Do losses keep you out of the game? Have you learned to recover from losses? Are you getting better at predicting the results of sports matches?

Losses no. Losing my deposit yes. No one should learn to recover losses, everyone should learn to have a limit.

And no one gets better at predicting results. That's why the house always wins (eventually).

I’m progressing in terms of how disciplined I am on betting. I never triggered now when I’m on losing streak which is always my problem before when I’m still not used to gambling.

In terms of winning percentage. It increased significantly because I rarely bet now on unfamiliar sports or sports that I didn’t watch. Losing many times in the past makes me progress to play safely and do calculated risk betting.

When I first came to play poker, I liked the game and then decided that I would play every weekend.
So I got acquainted with all the rules, and decided to participate in the poker888 tournament. And I took 2nd place! I got 62 euros and it was cool.
Then I started watching poker streamers, and then developed an application for preflop training. It didn't make it to the top on Google Play, but it was an interesting experience.

For me it's more of mixed feelings, because I've lost countlessly and I've won countlessly too, I do keep track of some of the games I've lost in the past because I try not to select those options again, at least for the once i could remember.

Going back memory lane, I would say a serious gamblers doesn't have one strategy, winning comes with a combination of different strategies, because no strategy is certain, I remember one time that i use to select very few football games so I can get just 2 odds, with that those 2 odds, I will give high stake on it, at first I was winning because the fewer the games the better your winning chances, after a long while that strategy  stopped working, even the least 1.5 single odds too will disappoint you. So I started adopting different approach and strategies on my betting skills over the years.

The only way I've learnt to control my emotions is by not taking any lost to heart, it's more like a normal thing to me now, because I already know that the games I've selected might not come out 100 percent the way i want, but along the line, if i see a significant cashout flash on my dashboard, I will just take it and try again next time.

I still play the games I'm playing, so I have to learn and catch up with my analysis so I will not lose more money.
Quote

Yes, I'm still following games I'm betting, analyzing the players and the team so I can make a competitive bet, the strategy is to check the statistics and performances of the team and players.

It's easy to control your emotions if you are guided by facts and statistics, with a few exceptions, facts and statistics play a major role in sports betting, and you have to keep improving in your analysis if you want to continue betting.

Development means growth and growth means progress. Something positive. The years of experience you have gambling in my estimation would be proportional to your growth if the gambler is a person who is goal and purpose oriented. In my earlier gambling years, especially when there is a football tournament, I used to bet on every game. I had no strategy to manage risk. And even when I lost which was pretty frequent, I had no strategy to recover from the losses. However, that has stopped. Over the years I have improved my strategies, and stopped chasing losses through reading articles, interactions with gamblers and learning from them. I stopped betting on every football game. I can say that I have developed as a gambler.

I think most people just keep saying they play for fun to cover their emotions just when they lose. Lol we gamble to make the profits. Imagine if there wasn't any profit fir gambling, it won't be as popular as it is now. When I started gambling, I started with local sports betting. Then I just made little bets fr my favorite teams and luckly sometimes I gets good odds to win. Since then I've had so many large wins from sport betting which Im happy about. Upon joining this forum I became much familiar with online casino gambling. At first I just try playing on demo till I understood it and had experience. Now I can proudly call my self a casino player. I'm still learning though I only always gamble due to my busy schedules.

I have voted No and here is why. During last 10-15 years, nothing has changed much in my gambling habit. Long time ago, I have learned all popular game rules from movie, youtube, watching others play. I still place bets offline, when I watch the game live. I still bet on «team to win», instead of betting on number of corners, cards, offsides, face-off and etc. For a quick game, I still prefer Dice, Mines and Crash, and slots with fruits for any relaxation. I still dont bet much, nor place risky bets. Just a regular gambler that dont expect much to win. Also one of the reasons why I dont develop as a player/gambler - not aiming to to that, as my gambling routine suits me just fine.

If you take your entire gaming history, would you say that you have learned anything during this time?
I have learned to only gamble with what I can afford to lose because gambling is an unpredictable game.

Quote
In other words, are you progressing as a player?
I have gained more experience as a player and have been able to use my gambling budget to achieve my gambling objectives.

Quote
Is your strategy improving? Is the quality of risk management and money management improving?
As a young gambler, I made some mistakes but I have learned to have a budget that helps me to reduce the risk of losing a sum that will affect my finances. Since I gamble with what I can afford to lose

Quote
Have you learned to control your emotions?
I don't experience any emotional issues if I lose. I have also learned not to be overwhelmed by my win. Some people get too overexcited when they win and frustrated when they experience losses. But I have learned to balance by experiences to avoid excessive reactions.

Quote
Are your winning statistics stable?
Although I don't keep accurate records of my gambling activities, however, I can assume that my losses are not greater than my wins.

Quote
Do losses keep you out of the game?
If I experience consistent losses for a long time, I usually take a break to enable me to consider a new gambling strategy.

Quote
Have you learned to recover from losses?
Gambling is unpredictable and there is no reliable winning strategy. Having a strategy to recover losses can lead to loss chasing. I don't have any means of recovering losses other than doing extra jobs.

Quote
Are you getting better at predicting the results of sports matches?
I have a better understanding of the sports bets industry and I have also improved in match analysis and predictions. But sometimes my forecast is wrong which leads to losses.

For you to continue playing and not lose a lot of money, you need to improve and adapt to every situation that comes along the way. You have to be updated with the sports that you are betting on, control your emotions, and not resort to chasing losses.
Gambling has a lot of risks attached to it; being aware of these risks is very important so you will not lose a lot of money, and you can continue as long as you like without harming your finances and your state of mind.

One of the greatest battle i have had to fight to get to evolve from has been that with emotions, some times i make my analysis due to the fact that i have been able to gather some experience as a gambler all this years but then it happens that i still get to struggle with it at some point and still not get it perfectly right. when it has to do with gambling the fact that i keep hoping to make more money at almost every point get some wanting to keep trying and at some point when the uncertainties happens i get emotional and then try to stake higher with the mind of recovery.

so far from my experience, i have seen that i will definitely get better if I'm able to get pas the issues of emotion management as it turns out to be one of the biggest challenge that i have been facing as a gambler because literally its main emotional reactions that gat me taking some actions at some points in time.
