i see that i can just print it on regular printer paper. i'll just do that ,then apply to box/envelope and cover in packing tape so it's waterproof.

i figure padded envelopes for overs of 5 or less (each unit in it's own anti-static bag and bubble wrapped) and for bigger orders, boxes with foam inserts to separate the units. i already have a ton of cardboard and foam from other stuff, so it's no big to do that.

You can do that, but they don't want you to tape over the barcodes, and they're a bit of a pain to avoid (I've done it hundreds of times).

Please, please don't use a padded envelope for my shipment.  Use a box with packing material (crumpled newspaper works) surrounding the items.  Understand that the mail gets beat the f up.  You should see what some things look like after they've been through it.  I can imagine anything in a padded envelope getting thoroughly crushed.

I use boxes like these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200-6-x-3-x-2-White-Corrugated-Shipping-Mailer-Packing-Box-Boxes-/380554330622
+1 never use padded envelopes for hardware. use small boxes they keep their shape.

Just a heads up, my friend asked me last minute to get one for him, so I sent an additional payment for a total of five units (spreadsheet currently shows four paid)

serious logisitcal question - anyone know if it's possible to insure, apply tracking, and pay postage on a package online somehow? if i could just go to the post office and do a drop off that'd be A LOT better then rocking up with over 100 packages to process.

i'm blind. one look at USPS.gov and it's right there...

For the sake of the postal employees, please do this.

This is definitely the way to go.  I've been doing business on eBay for a several years now, and have got the process down now.

I would recommend getting some of the boxes you're going to ship the items in (get different sizes for different-sized orders), and some self-adhesive laser labels (Avery 5126 or equal), and actually printing labels and doing a test shipment or two before you get the items and ship for real.

I have a box of the labels I can send you.  Let me know.

Your a brave man Arklin, thanks for organising this for us.  It looks like it will be a lot of work for very little reward!

I got my 2 of them off you because my PM box is full of people asking if I can make sure that there is support on the Raspberry PI (I build minepeon, see my footer).

please put me down for two (2). To be shipped to a US address.
oh, add me only if it is ok to pay by Mon-Tuesday.  I am sorting out my BTC purchase. I will try to figure out something earlier.

i doubt it'll be an issue.
Won't be an issue to me. If you come out nicely ahead, I approve of the entrepreneurship.

My initial thought was that for payment of three devices, about 6btc, you were committing to a lot
of work which would on an hourly basis probably come out to a lot less than minimum wage.

However, if the above numbers hold you will have done ... 'OK'.   Wink

And there are two big assumptions in the above. The assumed 0.05 per device for final shipping
and that no assessment is made at the import / customs point.

I noticed in an Avalon chip purchase thread that they are anticipating customs fees. I do wonder if Arklan is going to get a surprise.

i talked to an asicminer blade buyer - he didn't have any.

but hey, if i do, i do. *shrug*

I'm sure that in that case good people on this group arrange a collection to help you out.
...
My 'back of the envelope' calculation below is based on the Google Spreadsheet. And, of course, assumes that everyone with an order pays. If not, then the numbers just scale down some.

Taken when Google Spreadsheet was at Total: 434

 2.1013   Price Paid ea.
431      Num paid (arklan doesn't pay for his three)

 905.6603      Total BTC paid
-18.113206   Escrow 2%
-846.3      Pay to ASICMiner for 434 units (431 buyers + 3 for arklan's fee)
-21.7         aggregate shipping to buyers at 0.05 each * 434
("something like .05 btc per usb stick maybe")

19.547094   BTC collected beyond itemized / known expenses

-- edit - Removed an opinion and left only the calculation.

well, bear in mind i won't be getting that until AFTER you all have your miners. still, i doubt it'll be an issue.
