While it will be nice to get these as soon as possible, my understanding is that these are not not yet ready to ship out yet.   So there is no gain from hurrying right now  and closing out earlier.

Has this status changed?

The gain is getting in line ahead of other (potentially large) orders.  We need to get the order in as soon as we hit 597.  Does anybody in this group want to risk delays to benefit stragglers?

The profitability of this little USB unit is about 0.015BTC per day.  (see http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/ ) This will last until the next bunch of Asics is released in the comming months.

Given the 0.015BTC profitability will diminish fast, every day is important in recouping costs.
It should be understood that keeping the order books open will be costing the group about 4.5BTC ($500) a day. That can't be recouped once the difficulty changes.

So processing the order book as soon as possible, is in the best interest of the paid group.

Im pretty sure i understand what you mean. A "change address" has fractions of bitcoins that just hang there?

A change address is described here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Change it is important to note your wallet GUI does not display the change addresses in the address book. (the real world ramifications are back up your wallet.dat regularly)
It is not a problem when you send BTC, but if it comes out of a change address you need to follow Klestin advice here: Here https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.2078386 to find the send address.

We really should close this down as early as possible as there will be new stragglers slowly trickling in who will want to pay after a few days. There are other group buys going and someone could create another one. If Arklan likes doing this he can start a second group buy.  Cheesy
By "early as possible" do you mean exactly 15hr and 48 min from now?  Tongue

If less than 300 have been paid for and there are unpaid orders after the deadline, most likely existing customers will increase their orders, or serious unpaid orders will find a way to pay.

Any delays will cost customers over 4.5BTC a day, so it would be more cost effective to pay in extra to get additional units than it would be to wait for late arrivals.

Thanks guys! Also, i was wondering. Sometimes multiple addresses are used from a wallet to send BTC, do i just choose one to sign the message if that happens?
(and a note, you only need to use one of the from addresses.)

Also the send address may be a change address, so not accessible through the QT GUI.

I don't understand the workings behind the signing process but, to me, it looks like you can write a program that can take any address and your own message to create a signature so that you can pretend it's your address.
You can only sign with a sending address if the private key for that address is in your wallet.  You would need to break the private key cryptography central to bitcoin in order to do what you describe.  If you can do that, there's $1 billion available for the taking, so get to it.

newbie here....please put me down for 2 units.

sorry for the late request.  I've been waiting over the past day or two for my noob 4hr limit to finally go away.  I will pay as soon as I can acquire some BTC, no later than this weekend.  Trying to arrange to meet someone to exchange fiat for BTC.  I've been mining on my GPU and recently ported the open source fpga code to a Virtex 5 development board I had laying around, but I've only managed to mine up about 0.4 BTC so far.  If anyone has suggestions on how to buy BTC quickly, that would be helpful.  located in the austin area.

The window for ordering is still open for 17 hours.
It would not be fair to close it now.

But once the order window closes everyone should send their funds as soon as possible so that the order can be placed with friedcat.

Of course keep the window open, but as soon as we have 597 BTC place the order!  There are going to be adds and deletes throughout the entire process from now, through waiting for shipping, through shipping to Arklan, through the end of time.  That's how these things work.  We should get that order in the shipping queue without delay.

Would putting my address in the signed message put my address permanently in the block chain? By signing, where does the message go exactly?

Ill send once i know how to sign and be sure my identity and details are only seen by the parties involved with the transaction.

EDIT: Also, with usps standards, do i have to put my full name in the address format above my mailing address?

The message doesn't go anywhere, you seem to have the same problem I did, you have to cut and past the message exactly as it appears in line 2 of logic's post.
Then you send an e-mail with the message to the selling party (not the escrow). He then recreates the message in the verify tab (you can do the same to check it) and if it is green then the selling party can confirm you sent the BTC to the escrow.

See: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.2076944 for an example

Neither the original message nor the signature are transmitted or stored anywhere.
You will have to copy and send the message and the signature created by the Bitcoin-Qt client by yourself to whom ever you wish to do so.
