All the people complaining about the 7 day payment period, including myself, realized that as long as everyone paid, there would be no wait.

btw thanks for verification PM, arklan.

Damn, I'm impressed with folks putting up money promptly.

I was expecting half the pledges to never put up the cash.

Bitcoin community ftw!

i was worried about it too, but so far we're at about half way.

Any chance that I could add two more sticks to my order for a total of 7 (up from 5)?  I already paid for 5, but came across another couple of Btc and would like two more to fill out the USB extender that I have.

as said in email, done and done. just send john the btc and show me a confirm of the transaction please.

I have sent payment, and emailed my shipping info.

I have never signed a message before in bitcoin, so I have no idea if I did it right.  If I did do it right, I have no idea how the receiving end of things sees my message?

when signing a message, it doesn't automatically get sent anywhere. you have to take the address you used to sign, the message and the resulting signature and manually send it to whoever you want to have it.

i got your email fine though.

I think i have wrapped my brain around the concept.  For good measure, I have sent another email. Please let me know via PM or email if the message verified on your end.  Thanks!

If you send it directly from MtGox or Coinbase or some other exchange that maintains the private key to the wallet holding your coins, you won't be able to sign it.

Damn good point!

For future incantations of group-buys and escrow stuff of this nature, that should be noted.  I have sent BTC straight from my Mt. Gox account when I wanted to balance my funds differently.  I didn't happen to do that here thankfully, but it was dumb luck because I didn't understand fully the signing process when I made my payment.

Had Instawallet not simply stolen/locked/lost all the funds that I had entrusted them with, I probably would have sent the BE payment from there.  And I'm pretty sure they were not sophisticated enough to have signing capabilities.  (BTW, Paymium aka paytuina aka bitcoin-central:  Rot in Hell.)

I hate to sound stupid, but how would I NOT maintain ownership of the address you sign with?

I guess it is probably unusual, but I've sold entire wallet files.  Probably not relevant to this topic.

A much much much more common way is to have a wallet file stolen from your computer.

Even more common than that would be to sign up for an on-line wallet or other Bitcoin related venture and have the proprietors fold up shop with the secret keys that the users (incorrectly) considered their own Smiley  That has been repeated ad-naseum since at least right after I got actively involved and the 'mybitcoin' scam went down.

correct you just have to maintain ownership of the address you sign with as long as you need to lay claim to the payment.

I hate to sound stupid, but how would I NOT maintain ownership of the address you sign with?

Also should I be able to verify my own message (I have QT v0.8.1)
When I create the message I get a confirmation "Message signed"
When I try and verify my own message I using that info (checked for exact characters and spaces) I get "Message verification failed"

Am I missing something?

Ok I got it, i have to include themesage text too
@ Henchman24  thanks.

well this is awesome.

go to open my wallet and its currupt, lost 1.5btc

lesson learned...update the wallet more often Sad

who wants to be a nice guy and front me 1.5 btc Smiley haha im not actually serious cause thats a lot to ask for...

Most of the time it seems that you are able to get it back.  I've no direct experience myself, but have seen the more technically inclined (and generous with their time) people lend assistance.  You've got some time to hack at it, and 1.5 BTC is some reason to do so as well.

I suggest you make a backup of the wallet file before doing anything else, and break out a notepad to keep track of the things you've done.
