It's a simple fork of the digibyte (Copy and paste) code base. Better to stay with the 5 algorithm that have been tested by a few coins already.

Why not use different algorithms to create some hype? This won't cause a lasting price increase.

The algorithms used in this release are the same algorithms used by DGB.  The algorithms that DGB chose proved successful for them, as well as for other coins that use them individually.  They are solid choices for multi-algo, and they really don't need to be changed.

I would like to reiterate the technical goals right now.  Our goal isn't to increase price, mate.  It would be nice in the long run, but it's not our focus.  Our focus is to create a secure and reliable blockchain that can be the backbone of an alternative(eventually preferential) monetary system.  Changing blockchain dynamics is never an effective or responsible means of facilitating market change.  Adoption is the only natural influence.  This stability and security benefits that from this release will facilitate the additional adoption plans that we have in the works.

It's the first step in a long line of plans we have for this coin.

For Biomike: Have you finished off the code for community review?
For AUR community: What about renting hash to help solve the long block times until Biomike releases Multi Algo?

Asked him to jump in and answers you.

I know for a fact some of AUR group are already putting hash to support the network until the fork.  More is better than not enought.

The code is now public at the following link:

https://github.com/aurarad/Auroracoin

We made it public about an hour ago for the early birds.  Pool ops, exchanges, and all other coin resources are being contacted with the release details.  A formal release statement will be made shortly, as well as the release of the compiled wallets.

If anyone has any questions regarding the code, BioMike and I are happy to answer any questions.

Current planning for testing and bug fixing is going fine. If no problems arise the new wallet will be available mid March.

What special features will the new wallets have ?

I asked the promotion team to release all the data over time (starting about two weeks ago)... I hoped they would release info more sooner. As I will be pushing changes for the hard fork to one of my public repo's today... here is the big news:

Auroracoin goes multi-algo. Scrypt, SHA256, Groestl, Qubit and Skein (same algos as Digibyte) will be the algos that we are going to use. There will be a few more changes (mostly as a result of the implementation of this change), but I let that over to the other team members to release.

Can you PM the public repo link? A history lesson for all of you, it was Myraidcoin that developed Multi Algo and not digibyte, digibyte copied myraidcoin and used the same algorithms you will be using. You will be using the original algos used by Myraidcoin.

We're in the process of setting up the development repo on the aurarad github. As for the history lesson, thank you for the correction.

It's a good move forward considering the long block times being experienced due to the multi pools. Multi Algo solves all those problems. Block 209314 was almost 90 minutes.  Sad

To those lurking and are in iceland next saturday Grin

We will be hosting a open meeting about the auroracoin project and future plans for adoption

https://www.facebook.com/events/1737181919858883/

Laugardaginn 12. mars mun Auraráð sem eru frjáls félagasamtök stofnuð af áhugafólki um framgang Auroracoin á Íslandi halda opin fund um framgang verkefnisins á Íslandi. Margt hefur gerst frá fyrstu tilkynningu Auroracoin og munum við fara sögu verkefninsins frá stofnun til dagsins í dag. Einnig verður farið yfir alla þróun sem hefur átt sér stað sem og framhaldið sem er vægast sagt spennandi.

Öllum áhugamönnum um betra peningakerfi er boðið að kíkja á okkur annað hvort til fræðslu eða bara í létt spjall um verkefnið.

Good call on the multi algo, that gonna really help to securing the blockchain by fetching new miners in.

I'm sensing a jump in price very soon.

So, tell a total newb to multi-PoW: do I need a GPU?

The main reason to chose multi-algo is what BioMike said, the prevention of stalls due to multi-pools hopping on and off one single algo.

By dividing the chain over 5 different algo's, of which three are still ASIC resistant, we can not only secure smooth transactions but also give people with GPU's and even CPU's a good option to mine Auroracoin. This also helps to keep the chain decentralized.

The dev team has its weekly meeting this evening after which we will draft a first official announcement of the developments in store. Stay tuned!

This development is much welcomed by all South Africans!
